Flood Totaled Turbo Miata Going Back Together! New Parts! Carpet Install & Much More!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Welcome to the 2nd installment of this Miata project. I bought this car from the auction as a total loss from a low level fresh water flood. Having known the previous owner, I knew the car had a lot of expensive modifications and was an overall nicely built car. If you haven't seen the previous video, go here: • Saving A Highly Modifi...
In this video I tackle a myriad of small projects on the car from fixing the blower motor, to relocating the aftermarket stand-alone engine controller to 90-93 Miata ECU location, installing the carpet, and much more. These cars are all very easy and simple to work on which is why I even considered this project in the first place.
I really hope you enjoyed the update on this project, there are more coming soon!
As always I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism.
Catch you on the next one!
-Eric

While I mostly watch for your teardowns, I do enjoy your other projects such as this one. You inspire me, while not to teardown my engines, to just get out in the garage and start turning wrenches. Every time I watch your videos, I end up out in my garage tinkering for a a couple days. My wife thanks you for that as well! ;)

A "road flooded" sign hangs on the wall, quietly mocking this beautiful sports car. But, with Eric's determination, the Miata shall have the last laugh!
It was probably totally accidental but the road flooded sign in the background was a nice touch.

Ozone machine will remove any funk, best 70 bucks I have spent in awhile. Use it in the car, boat, coolers, whatever.

Thank you for doing these project updates. They are my favorite part of your channel.
Ya, finding the instructions after the install is always a treat.
"Need to finish projects" been a while since we've seen the mystic or the Corvette, Eric... haha
1:26 It’s always good when the holes are in the right spot.
What's more fun than a MIata? A Miata with a turbo!
NOICE 👍 like the fact your going to change the fluids too. I bought a used Yamaha triple 850 years ago and changed the oil in all three gearboxes, was really glad I did, there was a lot of water in all of them.
As a shadetree mechanic I'm addicted to watching other fix cars. This helps me get my fix when my friends cars aren't broken.
The "Road Flooded" sign behind a flood damaged car is nice. 8:30...put the nuts where they need to be. "That's what she said"
I see you have a lot of comment but It’s nice to see you put something together instead of taking an engine apart
Love the flooded road sign in the background while working on a flood car
Should be a fun drive when finished. Fun to watch new carpet install
Always nice to see Mazda Miester back in his element.
"machinist!" Lmao that got me good
Nice update! Fresh carpet always spices things up.
Thanks Eric - glad to see you making progress on the Miata
great to see Eric work on this car!
this editing has gotten super good. Always love a new upload from the main car guy.
Favorite build of the series so far!!!
Thank you, Eric. Enjoy all your vids.
Good afternoon Eric. The Miata is looking great.
Gosh that car looks great. I will have an old Miata like that one day! Love the video!
Hell yeah love mid week updates
literally watched the first part yesterday, great timing.
So many times simplicity is just the greatest.
I have a 2000 SE that I bought new . It just turned 40K miles when I put it into hibernation this past Nov. They are incredibly durable cars and will put a smile on your face. About as much fun as you can have with your clothes on. Thanks for another great video.
Love the "Road Flooded" sign in the background 🤣
Got to give us a ride along once it’s finished
Love the Road Flooded sign on the wall.
A flooded Miata in a garage with a ROAD FLOODED sign on the wall, good one.
What a great video. You know so much about cars and wiring I am envious of your skill, but you are in that business and you should know all about that stuff. Keep producing, I will keep watching.
This was kinda neat watching you sanitize and fix this car.
A runaway diesel teardown would be neat to see
I had a miata last year. Such a fun car to work on
The 5 speed swap I am doing on this red 1990 today seems much easier comparatively, my first foray into miatas they seem pretty alright to work on

I have been watching your videos for a while now and I am extremely impressed with your knowledge skills both in tearing down complex engines and also restoring cars kudos sir😊
Nice little car! Nice buggy as well!
Super cool video!!
That Miata (mx-5) will be great when you finish with it. A good friend of mine in New Zealand has the Eunos version and had the original first version limited edition in British Racing Green with the Momo stuff. Drove it once going from Sydney to the Gold Coast and the only complaint I had was it could do with more power. I was amazed by how heavy the steering was in such a tiny car but that added to the charm :)
good job Happy, you are more than just a hockey player after all .
On my wishlist for one of your much appreciated teardowns: a Volvo 5 cylinder modular engine, preferably turbo, so 2.3T, 2.4T, 2.5T (they're all LPT), or one of those with a bigger turbo. Some have single VVT, some double. The blocks themselves can go 300.000 miles easily, but maintenance is crucial. So you could find a high mileage one that failed after two decades or so. Looking forward to a video of a Volvo engine!
Like the car and format.
Nice touch with the road flooded sign behind you ;)
Great Video
Love the videos and content! I hope to see a Toyota 2.4L 2RZ-FE tear down one day, if possible. Keep up the awesome work!
Great strategery!
diggin your levity in certain situations🖖
All I could hear in my head with the underlayment was "No! this one goes here. That one goes there!
Hooray I can actually put it your video into HD quality instead of it looking like I'm watching it on a potato 😂 great content as always
Looking good! (I miss my Miata.)
Getting there 😊
8:19 SELF TAPPERS FTW SON!
I used those same kind of bits during my 20+ years working on USAF jet fighters. If you get them in the screws at an angle, they break pretty easily.
Yes for sure
I love the Miata, wish I could find an older one like this with a turbo kit installed but not totaled :D - I have no idea how to handle a salvage title. Thanks!
Great vid! I should have a Miata but they're scarce up here in the frozen north. Someday maybe.
Thank you! I got my oil changed due to your engine tear downs and possibility of running another 100000 km.
The gauge pod could use some black paint.

Yes, definitely
i have a terminology suggestion for the material (smaller than piston mcnuggetts) left specifically in the pan: "fond" as it's referred to in cooking terminology. think heating the pan over med-high heat and then adding a cheap white wine whilst you whisk to get all those tasty giblets courtesy of whatever mechanical failure that took place upstream. hope your Mrs. and newest addition are doing well.
Nice!! 🙂
Looking forward to your e61 rwd manual project
From experience with my NA6, as I watch you try and fit carpet. The dash needs to come up a bit to fit it all, and all the stuff under the tombstone. I was changing the heater box at the same time, so I had it all out anyway.
I want that car so bad. I have a 1992 miata and ever since I've got it I just want to keep buying them.
Always appreciate the content on your page. Have you ever done a Toyota 2.7?
While at it, treat exposed steel with gun bluing for added rust prevention
Still wanting to see a dodge 360 magnum tear down just curious what normally tears up on them but I enjoy all the videos
Try some 3M VHB tape for mounting things like the ECU - very handy.
Get a seam ripper to rip through those wiring harnesses easier
Hello, could you do more Subaru engines? FA, FB. The EJs have been done to death…Thanks for a cool car channel!
You know you're getting famous when other KZreadrs mention you. Pine Hollow Auto Diag. mentioned you.
I always keep some cheap, double-sided tape on hand for instances like that megasquirt install. If I need to hold something in place and can't see, I'll throw some of that on to figure out where everything fits. Usually isn't too bad to clean up after I mark the holes I need to drill, especially on anything metal. Sticky Velcro is also great for that, but not for this specific use. My old job required a lot of "an extra set of hands" that were never available, so lots of things got Velcroed in place because they needed to be able to be moved at times.
I'm currently boosting my miata, and I couldn't help but notice how nice that single din/gauge pod bracket it. Any chance I can get a link for that? Thanks ♥️

A company called Jass Performance make one that looks identical (stainless steel with 1,2 or 3 gauge holes), but don't know about availability in the US.
Time for some strategery!
I never even suspected that there's a car part named MEGASQUIRT
Phillips bits are a consumable.
Will vibrations from the rigid mounting of the mega squirt be an issue?
Have you no steamer oh practicioner of vehicle rehabilitations? It will certainly accelerate those carpet and seat cover installs.
We sold are little Miata’s because at our ages we needed better AC. But I really miss them. I’m guessing they’re going to sell this one have an idea how much you’re going to ask for it?
The car is coming out great!
where did you get this carpet from?
Engine management units being elsewhere than the engine bay always do my nut in. Is it just a Mazda thing?
Need that fan motor in my 928S4 not lookin forward to it
@17:39 - The boost gauge just slid out. Isn't there some sort of retainer for that?
Remember to always cut towards yourself...
Where’d you get that carpet kit from ???
16:25 "Help me step-pod, I'm stuck"
👍
This question is so random but have you ever done a teardown on a Volvo motor ?
I bet you could find a KZread video about installing the carpet lol
no no no no... you were supposed to sell that to me!!!!
Can u try to tear down a Fiat ritmo/Tipo engine
Great video, but too short! They should be like 5 hours long! heheh joking.
Whatever you do... DO NOT play the "Mega Squirt" drinking game... u will loose. 😄
waaait are projects actually getting done? are they supposed to be valentines day presents to the wife? lol 'its done now so i can sell it off! now we're down to only 6 dead cars in the driveway'
Is that not a Mazda MX5.?
