Welcome to my channel, I Do Cars. Its an answer to the awkward question "So what do you do?". On my channel you'll find videos of the dumb and overzealous car projects I take on personally. You'll also find videos of getting cars running that are either wrecked, or have been sitting for a long time. There will be some how-to repair videos as well because showing people how to fix their vehicle themselves is what I love to do. Of course, you'll find engine teardown videos. Lots, and lots of engine teardown videos. One a week, at least. I own and run an auto salvage operation and part of our model is tearing down bad or core engines and selling the parts. Taking these engines apart is just another day in the office, so I'm happy to bring you along!

Big problem is the operating temp. Thermostat doesn't open till 221 degrees. Everything is heat soaked. ZZP makes a colder running thermostat for it
The boy has inherited my 2015 Forester XT that I believe has this engine. You are making me nervous.
I love my 99 Miata. I can fix everything on my car cheep myself. I beat the hell out of it and no engine or transmission work other than timing chain. Still has original exhaust too.
But a 2 year old car should still have a manufacturer warranty, not a dealership purchased warranty. How do you blame the owner for a bad coolant line.
how does the three holes happened in the engine ???
Daughter had one crap out at 105000. She dumped that car as quick as possible.
Is "solid metal lubrication" a thing? That looks like a daring technology... For some reason those tiny blocks tickle my funny bone.
My assigned patrol car was nicknamed Lucky, because thats what you were if you survived a shift without any problems with it. It had exhaust leaks, a faulty power steering system, and other fun surprises that would happen once, then never again. The power steering thing was common among the explorers, and when my department told Ford, they took in all of the patrol vehicles, said there are no problems with them, returned them and the vehicles no longer had the issue and curiously had new parts. Ford was so shady about it, my department switched to Tahoes. And I work for a very very large department. Large enough that Ford apologized for their deceit.
Reminds of all those commercials with these people driving off road in a car made for everyday driving. Why am I having all these suspension problems? People seem to think they are driving buldozer. The wrx isn't a race car either.
junk
Far a little 4 banger that is a big motor .
"Blue" is there when he's at home, and there when he's at work. I bet "Blue" gets the passenger seat on his commutes each day. 🙂
Rod bolt torque spec is only 18.44 ft-lbs, so that explains why two felt loose.
Turbo engines needs mote care . Change oil no more than 5k miles with factor oil
Reliability of these ticking-time-bombs is just about as awful as how they sound!
The shavings from drilling or milling metal are called "swarf".
It's the non turbo version that shits the bed. I had two completely different engines burn valves . One at 118k miles and the other at 70k. 5k oil changes.
I haven't had abs in my GMT800 for 6 years
They are utter crap, people who buy these pieces of rubbish think they are super cool 😎 funny when they realise that the only smart people here are the manufacturer's of these junky cars , they sell this to imagey people for a small fortune
My 2.0 engine failed at 56k miles on my 2019 Platinum Altima a few weeks ago. Getting a new engine under warranty, thankfully
the rubber band, Band. Not Subaru's Shining Achievement !
I don't know why everyone is surprised to see sparkles in a Subaru engine. I mean, sparkles are right on the emblem!
Only Toyota has a successful CVT. It has a separate launch gear to give normal Toyota 300,000 mile service. There's no excuse for selling expensive Junk to unsuspecting Pubic.
at 110k miles on my wrx
My 2018 WRX FA motor spit a rod bearing all stock at 63k miles...just outside of warranty... subaru told me to go fck myself when i plead with them to cover it under warranty because i did my own oil changes and i didnt get them done at a subaru dealer. Luckily my dealership had given me a 1 year warranty and they covered a used longblock. I traded the car in after it was fixed and I'll never go back
i would buy the truck as is it has so much potential for helping other trucks
Scotty says the 4 cylinders are more reliable let alone valve cover leaks.
Battery tools can be a blessing and a curse
The engine seller should tell its story, that would be interesting, head surfacing, part ring in oil pan, conrod bolts torque, the list is very long....
Never knew Ford had pursuit mode. A charger just naturally hauls ass, Ford is junk, I pushed them out of my agency when I was there.
I have found myself checking my oil level more thanks to these videos. My VW was a quart low yesterday. Just think of all the engine lives you have saved.
When the doctor needs to take a look, U used blue wrong and too often, also U and Ur order of things, try washing, back first, wash, try 😅😅😅😅😅
which european engine is the most reliable from what youve seen??
Does anyone else think that we have reached the zenith of IC engine development? Is there anywhere left to go?
I've changed out 4-6 timing belts. Why did they go to chain. Seems like more friction?
Can you still stay uncle rodney? or is it more like uncle bernie.
2010 was the death of subaru. That forester that came out that year was total garbage. You should skip all subarus from them on. This is my harsh opinin. I've owned 3 versions. 1999 forester, 2003 forester, 2004 wrx. All of these went over 200k easily, no repairs mods gaskets at all. Neighbor bought a used 2014 outback, garbage. 60k and steering had a recall something. Pinging, garbage. All of our 4 other neighbors newer versions outbacks, rattle, ping on their various age ones. 2012, 2014, 2015.
What happened when you could cop an engine for 500 bucks
Owner neglected oil change.
da bris takes off da tip, don'tjew know what I'm sayin?
Very presumptive video without real data. You talk about outliers but don't consider failures of serviced CVT's as outliers. Especially in the last 8 yrs. Couldn't bother to watch the rest of this. There are better channels. Don't get me wrong. Subarus have their issues. The one thing I will put totally on Subaru is not recommending a better maintenance schedule.
What “real data” would you like?
Eric suggested at 39:44 that the skirt wear on the pistons had a lot to do with the rod offset, the angle. I don’t think this caused the skirt wear. There isn’t any offset, the centre line of the rod shaft still goes through the centre of the crankpin. The piston doesn’t know that the big end is rotated relative to the rod shaft. I think the lower rod bolt has more load than the upper one now, it needs to be strong enough. Would be good to have fracture-split rod caps, I guess. IanB
I have one of those, in my WRX, no after market parts, the only problem I've had is the spark plugs were getting weak at 40k miles.
Some WRX bro had a good time with that thing. That is what happened to it.
why doesnt subaru wise up? you think ill buy a brat with a cvt? no way jose. try a stick as the base tranny. not a cvt. stupid subaru
here in Australia the average life of these CVT is sixty thousand KM, thats from a Subaru mechanic, main failure is A sensor that fails, its located inside the unit that controls the operation of the expanding pulleys to engine RPM.
I think I'll stick with my old N/A EJs. Having torn down two broken ones (seized '95 22E and an '03 251 with no bearings that still ran) and slapping the parts together to make a janky racing 2.5, I can say in confidence that they are stupid simple to work on.
I have an early 2000s Outback with the EJ25 engine and after buying it used way before all the prices on used cars shot up astronomically, I have been taking pretty good care of it since we bought it about 5 or 6 years ago. And my point is, and I hope I don't jinx myself, but it is reaching 250k miles. And the thing is what every mechanic says - you have to take care of the car and engine with regular maintenance and repairs as needed. And the other mistake people make with owning an Outback is not realizing that the engine is a 4 cylinder boxer engine. That's kind of a low key Japanese made Porsche 911 engine but without the frills and extra cylinders.
Of all cars sold today, imo Subaru is the company that could most benefit from electrification TOMORROW! … their engines are junk… always have been. How many quarts of oil does that tiny pan hold? Is it possible to get the exhaust any closer to the oil pan? I wonder what the oil temp is on one of these?
