Floating Bed Frame 3.0 DIY (everything you need)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Take a hard look at the Floating Bed Frame 3.0. This time, I will highlight the changes I’ve made to my original floating bed frame design. This video will show you how to build a base compartment to make the entire under side of the bed function as storage. I’ll cover the building of some simple floating nightstands. Lastly, I’ll add locks to the storage areas of the headboard that I designed and built. This is a relatively simple build, kind of geared towards newer woodworkers. You don’t need all the fancy tools and techniques to make this one happen yourself. Trust me, you can do it.
I appreciate you taking the time to reach out to me and leave me a comment. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Please share this video with someone that you think would enjoy it. I encourage you to subscribe to my channel and grow with me as I continue my KZread video producing journey in to 2021 and beyond. I’m realc_love1 on Instagram if you would like to contact me directly to submit build ideas or for other inquiries. Thanks for your time and I’ll see you again soon!

    I love building furniture myself. But this piece got the best responses from my wife and kids. So much that when I built one for my daughter, the next day when I came home, my wife had went to the store and bought the materials for 2 more beds. 1 for our room and 1 for my son. I did make some changes to my bed by building a Chest at the foot of the bed that contains our television. I also installed a motorized TV mount inside so it can be raised/lowered out of the chest. This project made for a fun weekend project and definitely earned me some brownie points. Thanks for sharing your idea with all of us

    Hello Curtis! Ken and Mary in South Carolina!! I watched a few videos on floating beds before I found your queen size remake to king size . This past Mother’s day, Mary and I built a king sized floating bed and it is so nice!! I will admit that it is a bit high for her and she uses a stool to get into and out of bed. We even have the lights around the base! We have been waiting for your post for the headboard. You know how life gets busy and we forget stuff. The other night we found that you have the headboard video and we will get it made after the holiday seasons. The bed is So Stable!! Thanks a lot for your straight forward no BS video. Wish I knew how to show you our frame.

    @Kennith Burkett Wow. Mr. Ken and Ms. Mary 🤝 I'm so glad you stopped by, I've been waiting to hear from you! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I had to take time to craft a reply that I hoped to be one shred of awesome that your original comment is. Just for clarity, the queen size was my first ever YT video. I just recently posted the King size this summer and the headboard for that one a couple weekends ago. I'm so glad to hear that you built one, please let me see! On Instagram I'm C_Love1984 or email Curtisalove1 and send it to gmail.com(I can't type the actual email address or YT will censor the comment and you won't see it). I'm not the best builder or video editor, but my floating bed frame videos offer at least one way you can build yours. I always encourage people to reach out to me for help or guidance. The height is easily adjusted, especially if you aren't interested in the storage underneath. I genuinely appreciate your very thoughtful comment and wonderful compliments. Please reach out to me. Also, consider subscribing to my channel and clicking on the bell. This will notify you when I post a video(about once a month). Thanks so, so much for your time. Talk to you soon.

    I know you been wondering and from your comments, you never hear back; I made the twin version of this 3.0 design. I added 5.5 inches (80.5") for the headboard and used pocket screws for the top half. I still need to make the headboard. With a 19" base, and 10" overhang, yes, the twin still isn't stable enough. Granted it took a 170lbs tip it, but, I added 4 legs to the corners around the base (1.5" away from the base) and now it's fine. It's a bummer from far away, you can see the legs and it detracts from the floating look a bit, but up close, still get the illusion. Thank you!

    @Eric Stanley Hey Eric, thanks for your compliment and question. I sure would like to and did consider this when I upgraded my base to include storage (video: ‘Floating Bed Frame 3.0’), but I went with what I considered to be a more simple design that would be easier to reproduce from a KZread video. I think the lift storage might be a little intimidating for some builders. I’ve seen KZread videos with the lift storage integrated, so I’m sure you could find one that will work for you. I’ll be making the king size and the full size later this year so I might look in to these lift arms for either of those designs. I appreciate your time.

    @isleif76 Hi Isleif, thanks for your question...this is a good one. I very much appreciate your compliments support...I've poured a lot in to these floating bed frames and my KZread channel overall, thank you, thank you. This queen 3.0 is my personal bed frame that I still sleep on every single night. I don't believe there to be a need for any padding at all. With the storage doors open, the ones on the left and right rest against the back shelf uprights and the one in the middle rests against the boards running side to side on the back of the headboard. Also in the video, I put magnets on the doors on the left and right side so they don't flop back closed or rattle at all. I hope this helps. Again, I very much appreciate your time and reassurance that what I am doing here is the right thing. Come back and talk to me again down the road.

  • @CurtisMadeIt

    @CurtisMadeIt

    2 жыл бұрын

    @J Ex Hello J, thanks for stopping by and asking your question. Answer: bold of you to assume I cut the frame side boards at 77” instead of 78.5”. …Originally, I built it with 77” sides but have since modified it so all the joists are the same length and the sides are 78.5” now. This allows me flexibility when someone wants to add a headboard, it’s an easy modification by just adding 5.5”…that is the thickness of a 2x6 for a total of 84”. I hope this helps. I appreciate your support my friend and look forward to talking with you again.

  • @CurtisMadeIt

    @CurtisMadeIt

    11 ай бұрын

    @crystalgrimaldo4507 Hey Crystal, thanks so much and thanks for your question. Build your base out of 2x6, 2x8, 2x10, or 2x12 as desired. Use three deckmate 3” screws at each wood junction. I’ve upgraded to some corner brackets that are cheaper, just as legit, and easier to use than the strong ties that you use to secure the base to the frame. Either way, I’d recommend 4 of those for your base/frame. Reach me on Instagram realc_love1 and I’ll send you a link. Anything else I can help you with? Be careful on your build.

  • @CurtisMadeIt

    @CurtisMadeIt

    8 күн бұрын

    @user-cg9oy4es8v Hey, good morning Timothy, thanks for stopping by. I left the disassembly and moving part out so that you would come by here and talk to me today. Actually, I didn’t really think that far ahead. No way I could have *ever* imagined, anticipated, or hoped for these floating bed frame videos to get millions of views like they have(3.6MM 05.25.2024). At the time of this 3.0 build, I was trying to save money and clear up some space in my tiny apartment by using materials I already had on hand. When I move, I personally will completely disassemble this bed frame and keep all the pieces. When I get to where I’m going, I’ll cannibalize this 3.0 in to a final version for myself. I’ve learned that these videos act as a good basis to start from…not everyone builds them exactly as they are shown here. I’d recommend a 2x8 for the base in this case instead of building it as it is in the video(2x6 and 2x4 laying flat stacked on top). Take the time to label every single component and orientation in an area that won’t be shown when the frame is assembled so when you do move, you can either break it down all the way or just in to three large components(base assembly, frame assembly, and the headboard{you are gonna need 4 pretty strong hands to move these three pieces}). Make sure to hit the same holes when you re-assemble. I appreciate your time and support here, thank you for your great question. Apologies for the length but I hope this helps. I’m here if you need anything else my friend 🤝

    How much did all the wood cost? N is it possible to have Home Depot to cut the wood ?

  • @CurtisMadeIt

    @CurtisMadeIt

    2 жыл бұрын

    @T Hey T, thanks for your questions. Cost depends on how well you plan the project out, how much you want to do, and the availability of your materials. This 3.0 build as it sits would be about $400-$500 for all of the materials. Then you gonna need the tools to prepare them also. Yes, Home Depot will make the cuts for you, but here in Texas, they charge you per cut. By the time you get done building this bed frame, you are going to want to keep building other stuff, I'm pretty sure of it. If you can, go ahead and get you a circle saw instead of paying for HD to cut them for you. Then you will gain experience in cutting lumber and a tool to do this more in the future. I hope this helps my friend. I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and supporting me. That's what keeps me going. Talk to you soon.

    @thethingisawesome13 Hey Avery, some of this is correct, yes. I was improvising on this 3.0 build…I didn’t want to go purchase more items so I used what I had on hand at the time. You can make the base out of whatever you want to…2x6, 2x8, 2x10, or 2x12…keep in mind they don’t *actually* measure 2x6, that one is actually 1.5”x 5.5”, 2x8 is 1.5” x 7.5”, 2x10 is 1.5” x 9 1/4”, and 2x12 measures 1.5” x 11 1/4”. Stick with 2x6’s for the frame. I hope this helps and makes sense. I’m on Instagram realc_love1 if you’d like to reach me there. I apologize for the confusion but thank you for your time and support. 🤝 stay blessed my friend.

    @BaSiC_puffshD Hey B, thanks for your question. No, I don’t think so. A full size measures 54” x 75”, that is 137.16cm x 190.5cm. This build is for a queen size which measures 60” x 80”, again, for reference, that is 152.4cm x 203.2cm. I hope this helps.

    @Devin Parker Hey Devin, thanks for your question and interest, happy new year 2023. I build the bases for my floating bed frames as small as I comfortably can to make sure it is hidden but also so that the bed frame is solid and won’t tip over. I’ve gotten more than a 100 requests for the twin size at this point but haven’t built one yet because of the dimensions. It’s just too long and narrow to be able to adequately hide the base under there while keeping the frame very stable. I hope this helps and I’m sorry to disappoint my friend. Feel free to reach me on Instagram realc_love1 at any time. I’ll talk to you again down the road. Be careful.
