Float Fishing For Chub on the River Swale LDASA Asenby

Спорт

In this episode, the 1000 subscribers prize draw winner, Keith Knowles obtains a guest ticket for me and we go float fishing for chub on the LDASA River Swale at Asenby. The river varies in pace and depth here, however we choose a couple of shallow, fast water swims that we hope are home to our quarry.
Leeds and District Amalgamated Society of Anglers hold the rights to this stretch just above Sheep Hills Farm and Cundall Lodge Farm. The River Swale is also popular for barbel fishing, with the deeper swims generally better suited to to this species and a bait presented on a ledger, feeder or a traditional stick float.
During the day, the fast water swims offer the chance of some prolific sport when targeting the hard fighting chub on balanced tackle. When trotting for chub in fast shallow water the rig I choose is a small drennan loafer float, 5lb line and a size 14 hook to present double maggot or double caster hookbait.

    Love it Ian, Keith told me Ulleskelf had been fishing well again, I often fished it on an evening 20 years ago, pegs in the late 60s fished well back then. Tried again a few seasons back but they weren't there. I do like the lower Wharfe though. 👍

    Yes, it was incredibly difficult to land, almost impossible to steer it, hooked in the belly and in that fast water, quite how I managed to get it in is beyond me, lady luck.

    The Swale is probably the best chub river in Yorkshire, although there's plenty in the Wharfe, Ure and Nidd too. If you ever fancy a day out, give me a shout, I'll be fishing these rivers more in the future returning to old stomping grounds from my twenties and some I've never fished.

    Thanks for sorting the day out Keith. It's a great value club book, with probably the best river stretches in Yorkshire, just wish I had more time to get out on them, thoroughly enjoyed it, we'll sort another session out in October if you fancy it? Whatever species we're targeting. Coming up for my busiest month match fishing in September, then I'll have a bit more time to go where I please.

    It's always a dilemma, do you or don't you. This kind of fishing isn't for everyone, the walking,, climbing tree roots and standing up all day is what keeps most people away. Can't please everybody all of the time.

  • @HOOKEDFishingChannel

    @HOOKEDFishingChannel

    2 жыл бұрын

    Quite honestly no, I've got rid of my 507s now, they were causing me too many issues with line lay and bedding in.. I do prefer close face reels for stick float work but I'm using open face with the stick at the moment, if I don't get on with them then I'll probably go back and find some earlier Abu's for sale like I used to own.

    I enjoyed the video. One of Leeds DASA excellent waters. It will be good to see you on the bank with a Leeds DASA book. I saw an albino chub caught on that swim on two occasions. The fish which broke you will have been barbel. They like the well-oxygenated water when the river is low. What body-cam do you have?

    How do you keep float in place on a fast moving river

  • @HOOKEDFishingChannel

    @HOOKEDFishingChannel

    Жыл бұрын

    I'm not sure why you'd want to? Float fishing fast water is about making the bait go naturally with the flow by mending the line, you can slow the float down by letting the line trip off the spool using your finger as a brake, this will make the bait rise up in the water sometimes inducing a bite. The point is, when the bait is flowing fast down the river, the fish don't get much time to inspect it so they generally fall for it more readily than a static bait.
