Cool video! I've been toying with the idea of upgrading a SFF PC for gaming. Any particular reason you didn't upgrade the fans (other than to save money)? There's only 2 in most of those SFFs (CPU Cooler and 80mm fan at the front of the case). The stock case fan is often not awful, but the additional heat from the GTX1650 would likely not help its cause. We also all know the stock Intel CPU coolers aren't great and there are quite a few LP coolers that would fit this build for not a lot more money (probably like $70 if you went with Noctua fan and cooler).

hey man try doing this on this pc if you still have it around or someting silmer theirs a program from gary gibson and its called inspectre. if you disable inspectre and meldown and restart the pc you will get more performance out your cpu that way. because the inspectre updates are affecting performance on the older i5's and i7's plus xeons give it a shot im sure youll get a performance increase. www.grc.com/inspectre.htm

Great looking build. I'm working on a similar build right now. If you have time, coloring or shrouding the PSU and making a cover for the hard drive bays can make the build look a little cleaner. If not, you can just use a heat gun to remove the PSU's sticker and leave it at that if you don't want to paint it.

I absolutely love the idea, and the result is great when you look at it from a distance, but I have some advice for you and my fellow modders that want to try this out : - The case seems badly cut in some parts, don't use a dremel to cut long straight lines, the cuts won't be straight and won't be clean - Depending on the paint that is already applied to the case, sand the whole case with fine grain sandpaper before applying paint, the result will be neater - If you use a rattle can or an airbrush, apply at least two or three light coats instead of applying one massive coat in one pass, it will prevent the paint from dripping and stacking at random places. - You really should apply varnish (matte or gloss) on your paint job in order to prevent it from falling appart (as we can see on some parts of your case) Once again, the idea is great and I thank you a lot for the time you took to create and share this content

  • @ZachsTechTurf

Thanks for taking the time to write some feedback, but alternatives would have been more constructive! 1. What tool do you recommend cutting metal and acrylic for straight lines? 2. Is there anything that wasn't neat about the case? I agree that your idea is probably more META, but would there be a tangible difference when looking at it? 3. I did this exactly, I applied 5-6 small coats and not just 1 large one 4. What was falling apart? Thanks again

@@ZachsTechTurf thanks for your quick answer. First of all, I'm really sorry if I my advice might have appeared rude, I'm not speaking in my mother tongue. 1. Using a circular saw and a guideline or a table saw would greatly help. I know that most of the people dont have access to such tools, but hardware stores often offer cutting services. If really you have no access to such tools, you could also mount the window on the outter side of the panel and paint its border black to hide the places you fixed it on the panel (beware, the window has to match the size of the panel in this instance). 2 & 3. Some cases (most frequently older models) come with a "granulated" and "rough" paint job. Depending on the angles of your camera, I could see some elevations and irregularities and I assumed that they were caused by either those already existing irregularities or a single coat of paint which dripped a bit. That's why I think that sanding the parts that you want to paint is better. I forgot to mention in the advice that I gave for the coats that you'd have to let each coat dry before applying another one (but you must have done that 👌) 4. Mostly on the edges of the cut side panel, were the window meets the panel's metal frame, we can see "black" spots were there is not paint. I can't illustrate my words with pictures and I might have made a mistake, but after watching closely the bottom right of the window when you face the "window side" of the PC, I think I see spots of missing paint.

I have the same PC set up, but when I upgraded the GPU, I couldnt find the GTX 1650 at the time, and went with the AMD Radeon RX 6400 instead which works well for the games I play. Many of the games I play run well in 1080P but instead of the I5, I've upgraded to the I7-6700.

Bought the exact same PC from a recycler a couple of years ago and put in more RAM and a SSD. Unfortunately it was during the great Graphics card drought of COVID and the only card I could get was a GT1030 - I could not find a 1650 anywhere and the ones being sold on ebay used were at ridiculous prices - so unfortunately no 1080p gaming for me - but I'm eventually going get a 10th gen i3 from work when they swap a desktop over - and this can become a media PC as it can handle 4K playback with no issue.

Nice build i recently bought a lga 775 hp compaq 8200 elite for an amazing £6 inclu free postage which i plan to flip i got it working after some troubleshooting and upgraded the CPU to the core 2 quad 8400 and some decent 8gb kit of ddr3 ramp plan to slot in a decent low profile gpu something like the amd Radeon pro wx 2100 shes good as new in the inside but still all beat up on the outside i plan to mod the case allbeit wont do as extensive modding as you did as i dont have access to a Dremel and resources to keep my self save plus i would like to apply the common programming practice of keeping it simple stupid although i do plan to vynill wrap the case and spray paint the front fascia maybe put some rgb at the front as well stuff which is easy todo and should make it look awesome

Yo Zach, I like the new format but if I can add, I believe the camera is maybe too big? I mean it occupies a lot of space on the screen, also, the microphone on the way just looks really odd. Besides that I would like to see it more often, actual live gameplay. Also you're recording so that obviously takes a few FPS but I think that the PC looks sick!

I just transferred my HP Elitedesk 800 G1 to an old HP Pavilion case, added a gtx 1650 and I'm playing Forespoken right now. Extra things I had to do: 1.) Remove the power switch and lights from the front cover button, insert into the from cover of the Pavilion. 2.) To use my Elite desk cooling fan, I had to find some nuts that fit on the bolts in the fan too attach it to the mother board. The Elit desk mother does not have built in nuts. The fan bolts into the case. It ain't pretty but works like a champ.

Those edges look rough. Wondering what good options there could be to cover those wonky cut lines. Maybe some PVC white trim could do the trick. But then again did not even realize that was the original case at the start.
