People will never understand beauty and social expectations in Eastern Europe unless they live here. No video can do it justice. In most countries in the former Soviet bloc, women outnumber men greatly because of low life expectancy among men and emigration. This couple with traditional expectations of beauty can create a sharks tank of competition between women to get the good men, or any man for that reason. Foreigners represent a darker aspect of the equation most often. Additionally, these shortages of men creates a much more submissive society where women are afraid to lose their men and will accept much worse social treatment as long as he stays with her.

I think he means that many foreigners come to easter European countries hoping to 'strike a bargain'. I travel to eastern Europe quite a lot for work and constantly see western European men walking around with beautiful women half their age. And I cannot help but think that those women very often had to settle for a lot less than they actually deserve. That said, there are also a lot of genuinely nice men who come to eastern Europe to find something that they cannot find in their own countries. Usually these men are 'average' in every sense of the word, but certainly nice guys. And it's very sad to see how some women scam them and rob them of all their possessions. So this 'darkness' works both ways I guess.

SAD...Those women sound thirsty and desperate. But I guess they're not women but girls. When you enter into womanhood you let go of that feeling of helplessness and low self-worth.

How is this specific to Russia??? The hippocracy in this coverage is palpable. Come on Aljazeera, most thought you were above this.

It is not an impossible standard when there are women out there who meet this standard. Also, why are standards only bad when they are applied to women? Men who work in construction or in a moving company have to be really strong to do this hard work without breaking their body and they have a standard that most men cannot meet, but nobody complains about that. There are different requirements for different jobs and not everyone can meet them, not everyone can get any job and that is not a bad thing, it just ensures quality of work. In this case, the flight attendants are the face of the company that the costumers see and the company wants to show them something of high standard and beauty. As long as there are women who can meet these expectations, it is totally okay.

I like flying Aeroflot. One of the last airlines to still give us beautiful flight attendants.... And good food too...

Flight simmer flyin real planes oh is it? Is it the pilots who open the doors and evacuate the aircraft in 90 seconds? Is it the pilots who will apply First Aid procedures to passengers? Sure, they do the hardest part of the job, but they shouldn’t get all the merit. We are all a team my guy.

@@haykodjan oh! Is it! Pilots will just save the planes and if any emergency it won't even take 30secomds for them to evacuate the aircraft from the cockpit! U passengers are in the cabin and do u even know where r emergency exits on a plane and evacuate the plane during an emergency! wat to be done during fire on board? Cabin depressurization? Engines on fire and fuel tanks on top? Save a passenger wen they get heart attack in the sky? For all these flight attendents are responsible! They r well trained to handle emergencies! They r the LIFE SAVERS less than a WAITER!

? whatever I think doesn't make any difference. That's how we as a society are. You could also complain about "average" girls being at a disadvantage when it comes to the dating scene but my opinion or yours won't make any difference to the reality.

Ok. All the comments in here are basically so shallow and stereotypical in nature. If you believe that love is always for good-looking people only, you're wrong. I know several great looking people who are still single and not so attractive people who are in a relationship or even married with kids. And ironically and in reality, it's actually the most attractive people who struggle to find someone. So there ya go. Coming from a pretty and thin gal with still no partner.

And I totally agree with companies which do that, they want to be known to have beautiful flight attendants and as a result to have a growth in sales. You don't expect to see fat and ugly women on a catwalk and so for international flights.

why dont we think about the greater good of society for a change and recognize that we are all human? women who are not so good looking also have families and children and need jobs, just like everyone else. You cannot discriminate people for something that the did not do,or did not choose themselves. Its the same with skin color, race and also looks. our personal sexual attractions have nothing to do with it.

GraceDcastle yeah so the initial criteria for choosing the girls is looks and then let say out of 50 girls, 25 have been short listed based on looks then out of 25 pretty girls they will further short list them based on intellectual skill , maturity to handle situations , service and politeness...so everything other than beauty is a 2nd priority in airline industry and a fat ugly girl should not fight to get that job which will make losses for companies as guys once step into the plane will first look at the air hostesses and the service part will come later on...so the airlines first impressions are their air hostesses and as they say first impression is the last impression...

Many countries patriotic national belief is always strong.

They really need to just be up front about it. Here are requirements. Physically looking good by these standards are one of them. If you don't meet them? Sorry. Seek employment elsewhere.

Having lived in Russia and been with 46764954 Russian women, I can say that beauty and "looking good" is very important for them. They'll put on make up and do their nails even when they take out the trash. Also the man to woman ratio is Russia is very disproportionally favoring men. That means it's the women fighting each other over the man. Just the way I like it..

Recently the Russian Aeroflot was announced for one of the the best air carrier worldwide - exclusively because the safety (they dont have air-crash or serious problems for decades). They use former military pilots with the best possible training and they have one of the newest air-fleet. It is always good to reed more before talking!
