Flexeril

Most Flexeril prescriptions are dispensed as the generic cyclobenzaprine. This muscle relaxant may offer some fleeting advantages over placebo and remains among the top 50 drugs in the country. Fortunately Flexeril is not a controlled substance, not an opioid and not addictive. Unfortunately it also does not work very well.
One study determined adding generic Flexeril to over-the-counter naproxen failed to offer any advantage compared to naproxen alone. In spite of this, 2/3 of the patients, mostly suffering from low back pain, asked to receive the same therapy if their pain returned.
The maximum recommended course of treatment should not extend beyond 2-3 weeks since its indication remains acute muscle spasm. The typical dose is 5 mg three times a day, but this may be doubled if necessary. Flexeril finds use not as a single agent but in combination with an analgesic for active pain control.
Flexeril belongs to the cyclical antidepressants - a class of medicines discovered in 1889. Side effects include abdominal pain, decreased intestinal activity and reduced mental alertness. Drowsiness occurs in about 1 in 3 people taking the drug with complaints of dry mouth in 1 out of every 4 patients. Other adverse reactions include painful ejaculation, abnormal cardiac rhythms, abnormal thinking and difficulty swallowing.
Combining Flexeril with other central nervous system acting drugs poses special hazards. Complications are more likely to appear among individuals also taking benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium), opioids (hydrocodone, oxycodone), phenothiazines (Abilify, Vrylar, Prolixin, Mellaril), phenobarbital and alcohol.
Flexeril increases risk of seizures especially in those receiving tramadol and must not be taken within 2 weeks of an MAO inhibitor.
Elderly individuals appear especially liable to cognitive difficulties resulting from Flexeril. Medical authorities suggest avoiding Flexeril among those past age 65.
Overall the drug presents a robust list of side effects along with a lack of defined benefit. Clearly this might be one to think twice about before beginning a course of therpay. For convenience, Teva manufactures a delayed release version of the drug. While gereric forms of the immediate release Flexeril cost as little as $10 a month, Teva’s name brand Amrix carries a cash price tag of about $1400 a month. Go figure.

Pisses me off when doctors emphasize the side effects of pills people need due to being in pain but NEVER consider the side effects of being in pain. As if being in pain doesn't have far reaching adverse effects on the body. This pill isn't for chronic conditions but there is nothing for chronic conditions.

Right. Same with insomnia, which effects may be hypertension and heartbeat anomolies, even if they were not prre-existing. There's no drug for chronic conditions, because no drug cures anything, though they may get some symptoms out of the way until the body/mind complex heals itself.

I have been living with severe muscle spasms for years due to several spine injuries and surgeries and also MS. My new Dr refuses to give me Valium when I need it and I trust it because it works for me. It's so frustrating. She insisted today I try this crap that I don't want because it was one of the ones that made me extremely sick years ago. I am going to probably pick the crap up since I'm going to pick up my vit D.. but highly doubt I'm gonna dare take it at all. I really like your videos because you cover so many issues the other drs don't point out. Thank you for thorough, honest information. ❤

I recently took this after sleep deprivation and a couple high stress situations to include an vehicle and identity theft while outside the country. When we returned I took it to sleep and ease back pain from an accident on the trip. The next day I was manic and full of anxiety which I normally don’t have. It took me a week to realize I was in a medical induced psychosis as I took it every night to fall asleep as my relationship was on the fritz. In addition to the complete mental breakdown induced by this drug, including panic, anxiety and obsessing, I experienced: jaw pain, loose stool, right eye vision blurred, dry mouth, tight chest, and increased heart rate. I don’t take any other medications and am in above average physical shape. I’m now coming down after not taking it for over 30hrs. It’s like I was in a mental coma/fog all of last week as I wasn’t myself at all. The good news is during the mental destruction I looked deep and realized changes I could make. It was like pharmaceutical ayahuasca.

I appreciate this info, but don't let this scare you. I have been taking this medication off and on for years and when I have low back/leg pain, it is they only thing that helps resolve the pain and more importantly, allows me to sleep. When I have a flare up, it is almost impossible to find a comfortable position to lay in, and this medication is a miracle to get me through and allow me to sleep.

Carisopridol works so much better. It's unfortunately not prescribed much anymore because it is "addictive" and causes dependency. It's not very recreational because it causes a lot of sedation, it's hard to stay awake if you take a larger dose however in smaller doses it has very few side effects and causes some anti-anxiety effects. It's crazy how our society is so afraid of addiction, that they'd rather risk your life with a nasty drugs like Flexeril or Tramadol which have so many dangerous side effects.

@@freeflyer151 it's related to tricyclic antidepressants. I hope you haven't been taking it daily because it does have a pretty horrible withdrawal syndrome like all tricyclic antidepressants. Tbh it is BS. Tricyclic antidepressants are dangerous. That's why they aren't prescribed anymore for depression. They can cause fatal arrhythmias called QT prolongation and they also have a lot of anticholinergic effects which cause cognitive decline, overall decline in health and increased chance of death. Cyclobenzaprine is a perfect example of a drug that is prescribed because a superior drug, carisopridol, is addictive and according to the FDA, they'd rather you die or have your life ruined than possibly get a buzz off your medication or even get addicted to it. Of course addiction isn't good, but there's a simple answer to that problem. DON'T PRESCRIBE ENOUGH OF IT TO GET ADDICTED! No one should need a muscle relaxer for longer than 4-6 weeks as they are for acute injuries. Not chronic injuries.

I went on vacation forgot my flexeral went through terrible withdrawals I thought I got the flu. When the withdrawals passed all of those other symptoms were gone!! Dude I took 5 mgs for a buzz once and to relieve my severe pain and anxiety (I used to be big on mountain biking and was very irresponsible with it, had several injuries.) and it made my anxiety 10 times worse, it felt like a weird benadryl buzz mixed In with a weird Dextromethorphan buzz (robitussin), it did kind of help a bit of my pain but even then it was nothing like how a true analgesic would clear my pain, preferably a nice opioid or pints of lager. The only good thing it did was make music sound really nice, other than that it caused severe dry mouth, tiredness In a bad way, intrusive thoughts, feeling sedated yet stimulated at the same time, and just felt gross and dirty overall. it's an extremely dirty substance and I think all tricyclic antidepressants are trash, possibly some of the worst ever. I'll stick with my poppy seed tea, my krarom, my codeine tablets, my beer and my ganja. This drug actually made me never wanna experiment with new stuff ever again, which is good because by the time I tried it I had already tried just about everything. There is no way anyone could take this substance and function in public normally, you'd seem so smashed. The only 2 things I'll give it credit for is Music Enhancment and the next day I did kind of feel a mild Afterglow but also a hangover at the same time if that makes sense. Overall 2/10, probably the worst thing I ever took aside from benadryl and crystal meth. I'm serious
