I think that when considering the idea of casual play and playing more Janky off meta decks you have to consider the ACTUAL card pool that each hero can play. For example, while Viserai is a runeblade he only has access to less then half the runeblade card pool because there are so many talented runeblade cards. Then a majority of those cards are red yellow or blue of the same card text. While you can play a hero that has a talent so that you can include those card or use more generics there still isnt enough cards to make more unique decks. When people want to play "jank" in this game currently they usually will play an off-meta hero instead. I hope that flesh and blood gets to the point where I can play a card each turn and my opponent doesnt know what it does because it rarely sees play but because of how flesh and blood is structured and how sets are structured this will take some time.

Yeah the characters are very unique and their cards have to be purposeful too and example I recently stumbled upon is with vynset like it may seem that there are many shadow cards but because of how unique she is I realized that Bunsen wasn’t bad just not enough cards that want to do what she wants and that’s not trying to find Jank build

These exist in the current card pool tho - stuff like big axe warrior, shield guardian, Knick nac combo or whatever. There's also stuff like Bill's transmog Prism. Tho I do agree that more cards overtime will likely help quite a bit

@@RedZoneRogue I agree that there are some cool builds out there like big axe warrior or OTK Viserai, both of which I have loved playing in the past. But I think that because of the slower trickling of cards each hero gets per year you might not realize when these "Jank" decks start to show up. What I mean is whenever these new strategies popup people might play them for a bit before moving back to their regular deck so you dont realize that people are playing the more Janky deck. When Sonata Galaxia came out I saw a resurgence of OTK Viserai before it slowly fell away into his regular play pattern. In addition some decks might have a unique playstyle that also uses alot of the same cards making it seem from the outside that the deck is the same as the usual deck for that hero. So while I do actually think there are more unique decks out there, I dont think that we will see the same level of "Jank" decks and playstyles that we might see in other games until we have a bigger card pool to explore new ideas in.

I can relate to listening to magic content even though I also don't buy anything for the tcg anymore. Of the people that I watch, many of them have commented just how overwhelmed they are with the number of new products they have to the point that they can't keep up. So be thankful for the slow days of FaB to allow us to enjoy other hobbies.

I'm honestly glad that they banned as quickly as they did. I don't think any game is perfect and to be fair, bonds of ancestry has always been shitty to play against in katsu. But it's kind of like lumina in Bolton where if he had a ton of more tricks it would be unfair, but since it's his one thing, people kind of let the broken bullshit go. If katsu had several very powerful lines and was a competitor in his own right, normally people would be crying bullshit with bonds of ancestry being too powerful

What kind of janky fun decks would you even build in fab? Doesn't seem as creative from a deck building stand point as edh or other tcgs. But maybe I've just not really experimented too much. Love fab but I do miss the deck building of other tcgs

i have an all blue OTK cash out Nuu deck, and an OTK mordred tide vynnset. there are fun janky lists out there, they can win games but tend to have more polarized matchups.

i dont think it is mind set problem… flesh and blood system makes hard to build up, just like u said. difference between jank and tier 1 is amount of build up required for win con.

I was only able to watch half the video so far (so you may have addressed this), but combo-kills have been in the game before and even for a while. Lumina Boltyn is the most obvious example. The primary difference here is that decks which could do this kind of thing never had the consistency needed in order to really dominate a meta. Boltyn always kind of felt like "either I draw my combo or I probably die," with the latter happening more often than not. Zen was able to fairly consistently and reliably pump out these powerful combo turns. So yeah, it's not really a matter of this kind of deck being completely new to FaB, but the consistency of it was on an unprecedented level.

I have been running chains of Eminence in my viserai deck and when I see descendant gust wave I immediately creepers It in and say bonds of ancestry. I've screwed over a Zen or two because of that it is targetable, but it is shitty if you don't have the card to targeted at the time you need to

In response to Yuki, I have a question. You were playing a mirror match. Why were you hoping to do the same thing first?

Some thoughts: First, I almost skipped this. I think you used the same banned image on the video that another content creator used when making their video about the Zen bans. I almost skipped this because I thought I already seen it. I'm an older player. I played TCGs when I was younger, then stopped for a while, then came back last year. One thing I noticed about older me vs younger me is how cautious I am with my decks. Younger me would play whatever I felt like playing, not caring if I lost every game. Younger me did not care what the meta was. Older me is focused on decks that can compete and the meta and am afraid to really to experiment. Maybe getting old stifles my creativity. I wish I could get younger me back. As for jank decks. There will always be the obvious good decks. Games also have decks that were considered jank until someone actually wins with it.

I'm not understanding the criticism. When you said "this happens more often than not these days" (26:18), were you referring to banning a card right after its release, or banning cards in general? Before this week, excluding LL rotations, there have been two cards banned in CC in the last 12 months (Berserk & Crown of Seeds). and to say they're making everything as powerful as possible (26:40) isn't true. See Betsy, Olympia, Victor prior to Estate, Teklovossen, Maxx, Vynsett...

I respect the difficulty it is to balance this game, especially from the developers. I don't think even if they had double the resources they would always get everything I would prefer though if they stop saying oops this showed up late in testing. Take it on the chin. Just you fucked up. Don't make an excuse. Just say oops. Sorry we're fixing it now the end

FaB needs a casual format. Sorry, but UPF is not funny..its BS ☹️ I want to be creative and dont want to follow a meta. And Its not collectable..old cards and sets will become uninteresting because the cards are weaker and are not funny or so like an old commander-card. Who will care about an coldfoil shard in 5 years? In germany you can buy any box from wtr unlimited on for 50-60 Euro. I am out
