So sad they have to curtail this season but I also understand we need to ensure the future availability of these delicious crabs for our grandchildren’s grandchildren and beyond

sad? reap what you sow. these crabs have been over fished for YEARS and now they're paying the price. i LOVE snow crab, prefer it to king - zero reason for the biomass numbers to be what they are. pure greed

Not necessarily, I’m a sternman on a boat in Maine lobster fishing. Expenses are crazy high this year and the price is half what it was last season

@@johnf5068 I was just in st Andrews new Brunswick and had lobster rolls in Lunenburg,it was crazy expensive? Maybe it depends on what you fish for and where,less people willing to go fishing up in the north due to weather I'd think

Maybe learn actual tax brackets and rate before spouting nonsense. At $130K, the take-home after taxes would be $91K, or around 30% tax rate.
I still remember the episode of this show when two of the boats are way up there close to the Russian border and one of the deck hand's See's a missile being launched and it looked like it was headed towards Alaska

They went to overfish and destroy other fisheries.
Can’t imagine making $70,000-$140,000 in one trip for a week or two. Especially in this economy, the End Times, where prices for food, gas, etc is so high and being able to work a 9-5 job is has grown to be kinds sorry. Wirh I was about 30years younger to be able to work on a crabbing boat🙂

They said they were on the water for 49 days and caught $1.3 millon in crab and each deckhand will take home 60gs each in their pockets. Well,that was the 1 boat with the lowest amount but all the others made more than that,Jakes boat made the most and they said each deckhand on his boat will take home $74k each,that's a HELUVA DAMN GREAT paycheck right there and i don't give a damm who you're.

I worked as a deckhand for 2 seasons in Alaska, its backbreaking work along with it being literal life or death out there. If you’re interested just know its biting cold, you WILL get wet and dont fuck up because you may be putting yours and someone else’s life on the line but the payout is awesome. When I went the first time it was uncomfortable and being a greenhorn I was hazed but it was pretty minimal (thank god.) The other workers became more of a second family. My first payout was about 50k. I stayed off for year before going back again, leaving with a payout of 60k I never felt so good in my life.
Scary, what will they do with Alaska putting down the er on crab fishing this season!

That's why Sig and another capt chose to go to Norway. They are dealing with an invasive species that ARE threatening their native species. That's why they placed a no catch, no sex, no size minimum , They want them out of their waters ASAP

Okay people don’t worry about it they cancel stuff all the time I live in Fairbanks Alaska let’s me put it this way they even cancel Moses season up here and they are some time even cancel Samon fishing but they only do it for a couple years and they all way bring it back the same go with the Crabs 😂

I live in Fairbanks Alaska yes they called the crabs fishing for now but they are going to bring it back they do the same things on Samon fishing some time it takes 2 years because the crabs have to make more babies the same with the fishes 😅
But these guys can smoke. If a cigarette company wants money they must promote these guys with the shit they are smoking

Maybe not. Sailors are notorious for spending the money as fast as they make it. Not to mention repairs, maintenance and outfitting for the next season.
