Flea Market HiFi - Episode 2 - Early Compact Cassettes and Vintage Radios Thrifting Finds
Ғылым және технология
Thrift stores in my area have been terrible when it comes to finding vintage electronics and stereo equipment for years. Luckily, we do have quite a few vendor malls and flea markets in the area. I tend to come across some pretty nice finds at those. Some want retail or more, so I have to pass on those, but occasionally I'll find a deal too good to pass up. What will we find in this episode? Come along and find out!

That Ricky Lee Jones at 3:20 is one of my favorite LPs of all time
"I don't need another cassette deck" - me, as I buy yet another cassette deck. That radio is really cool - it's as old as I am.

That HP Pavilion, yeah, nah. I had one brand new in ‘99 when I went to art school, paid $2600 for it. It was decent-a Pentium III instead of the Celeron in the one you saw-actually had better specs than the machines in the computer labs we worked in, and was okay-ish for the 3D modeling I was working on, but it only lasted two years for me before the motherboard fried; my dad and I had to cobble a new machine together from TigerDirect over a weekend because my final quarter was going to start and it was time to put a portfolio and demo reel together. What we built was way better than the HP, far more customizable, at a fraction of the price. None of it mattered though, because ten days before I graduated, the World Trade Center was hit and because of the grounded flights, the potential employers that were supposed to attend our graduation never arrived, and trying to find a job just ended up becoming that more difficult. That’s all an excuse though because well before that point I was pretty disillusioned by the whole thing and had realized that my interest in art was a coping mechanism for a lifetime of crippling depression and should never have been a professional goal. Anyway, uh, haha, you sure dodged a bullet on that Pavilion! Zing! _[comical sad __-trombone-__ slide whistle]_
You past up some great grabs with that April wine, And the Cheech & Chong’s… 👀 That Big Bambu might have had the big white owl in it… 🔥💨💨💨😊

HAM Radio?? Hello , want to say that we had radio club, YU7IGH. I was not operator, but doing electronics in constructors section. So, once again, hello!!!
I live in the ny area and there used to be stores like this around at large indoor flea markets, lately it’s just goodwill that doesn’t have anything as interesting as the places you visited. Goodwill cherry picks all the good stuff and sells it online like eBay at inflated prices like that stereo all in one for 165$ they think they have gold. Even the store prices are ridiculous, I wanted a clock that had 10$ price ,one of the hands was not working, it was still 10$ broken or not.
Love this hifi hunting series. Keep up the good work 👍

Thanks! My plan is to release one every 6-8 weeks, as long as the selection around here doesn't drop off.
The Coca Cola crate immediately caught my eye, I have a Hires root beer crate I took from my parents. We lined it with blankies and use it as a cat bed.
There are some great albums in the cassette selection at 8 minutes. Shadow King is a band with the former Foreigner singer Lou Gramm and future Def Leppard Guitarist Vivian Campbell (and ex member of Dio, Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy and more). Highly recommended.

Nice to see the Cheech and Chong albums and that there's places that still price 80's cassettes reasonably.
was the rolling paper still in the Big Bambu album?
As soon as I saw the form factor of that radio I thought 70s. I had a Wien radio the same shape, clad in fake leather back then. Never heard of the brand since, must have been a cheap one that I got for Christmas. Many thanks for transporting me back in time.

Those prices 😱. Is anyone buying them for those prices? They're not exactly collector's items... Broken and dirty too. But yeah, nice finds. Always fun to browse in an 'old junk' store 😁

I'll take the SCL and L&N Railroad sign . My dad worked for the L&N Railroad for 30 years .
I don't use my ATARI 2600 either because I no longer have it in my possession . . . ever since I acquired the Colecovision Expansion Module #1, which was the ATARI 2600 emulator. Regardless, I had the Defender game for ATARI 2600, I might even still have it for I do not recall what games I still possess, for many were stolen from me! I would highly recommend picking it up, for it was a decent game for the ATARI 2600!!!
These people buy stuff from Goodwill and then sell it for 5x the price.

4:30: Those type are everywhere. I got lucky and found a radiant heat toaster at an antique store last year out of town, Still in the box for $13. Of course after a few uses it quit working and since I know nothing about them, sold it for 65. Somebody knows what was wrong with it and can fix it. Anyway, That was the buy of the year for me. Those are high priced ones you don't find many of, but in eBay of course, and WAY out of line price wise....
10:06: I saw one similar to it here, new in the box for $15. Didn't grab it tho. Last time I was there, I believe it was still there. Probably won't move too fast.

The only good part of that radio is the box. Windsor was a bargain-basement brand with little concern for performance. If any of its products work well, consider that to be a chance occurrence.

Dual cassette players are Junk, would you buy a dual CD Player.
If you died penniless, then these items are dead peoples items. If you are rich then it is an estate items. I got lots of items stored in storage places, in couple of decades they will be dead man items. That is the reality for a junk hoarder.
I don't mean to be mean by pointing this out. Everything in every store that is available is NOT selling. The sold stuff you'd never see or know ever existed.
