I worked at Goodwill for almost a year...they are a total ripoff and in no way can be considered a charity. Goodwill is morally bankrupt, that's why I left. Please do not shop there-better to shop your local yard sales, flea markets and rummage sales. Plus, anything you see at the store are the cast-offs, all the good stuff, including books, etc., goes to their online stores/auctions. They should be ashamed off the prices they char

What I've been hearing is they are just a business now, selling donations and higher ups making 6 figure incomes. They have tax free non profit status like Churches, they were originally supposed to be there to help low income needy people, but they make a ton of money and don't have to buy any of their merchandise.

Exactly. The thing about Ebay is you can't see how long the listing has been posted. Just because people put a certain price doesn't mean it'll sell. It's just luck that someone actually pays for it. I've known of people who'll list stuff for a high price just to see if someone will actually buy it but they truly have no intention of selling it unless someone is willing to pay that price. Someone I know had a sealed dvd for $300+ listed for 2 years until they pulled it down.

@@4KDRAY You have to know what you're doing. Check sold prices (not listed prices) and sell through rate. Know what's worth picking up and not worth picking up; consider shipping costs, time of the year (for certain products) etc. I spent almost 6 months just binging stuff on YT to find out what's generally being sought after and then started selling Ebay and marketplace myself and made over $3k in profit in one year as a side hustle.

There are a couple of sellers on ebay who are totally inflating prices on dvds, blurays, cds, etc. That's why some of the prices are so high. When I see a cd priced at 42.97 that I sell everyday for 4 or 5 dollars, it makes me wonder if they are in some money laundering business.

By the way, you said you never find anything good in the records, that means that you’ve stopped looking through them. I hardly ever go to Goodwill stores but when I do I always find a real jam that they overlooked like a super rare country western album or a really rare Latin jazz album. Recent album I got there for $2.99 each , which was expensive since most of the records were like common John Denver records etc. So the jazz album I found was a rare edition but I got $225 for on eBay. By the way I’m not a greedy seller, when I sell a record like that it includes free shipping and the shipping is priority mail with full insurance not just the $50 insurance. I think her to many sellers are charging shipping fees when they shouldn’t. I saw a guy selling rare signed baseballs that were $500 each and he had the nerve to charge $12 shipping. What? He buys the baseball probably at a yard sale for $.50 out of a toy box, the least you could do is make a high profit but pay for the shipping. Never understand why some people think that that is the way to get rich. Maybe it’s the way to stay rich but it’s certainly not the way to get rich.

just happened across this video. I use to sell stuff once in awhile but I’m more of a collector bc I was fortunate to do well in corporate sales early on in life Ive acquired a huge indoor climate controlled storage unit and a basement filled with nothing but incredible vintage pieces I started out with clothing 20 yrs ago and shortly after added collectibles. I now have literally tons of rare pieces, nos, aop, single stitch, nos, one off extremely rare items, vintage clothing mostly 50’s through late 90’s Nike,Starter,Pendleton,Levis,Dior,YSL,concert tees, incredible vintage sports SnapBack and trucker hat collection vintage movie posters and all the promo material and press kits that were given only to theater owners, lots of vintage watches, jewelry, sports cards, autographs, memorabilia, military items, very rare aviaton items, art, some mid century furniture pictures, paintings, toys ie Star Wars,GI Joe 60’s w accessories, video game consoles and games NES,SNES,N64,Atari,Sega,big collection of 1st edition sci fi paperback books from the 50’s and 60’s,some cool signs, glassware, ephemera, industrial lights, literally anything that caught my eye that I thought was neat, rare, or valuable. There’s no filler it’s all extremely hard to find stuff that took decades to acquire. There’s a lot more stuff it’s just hard to mention everything. Im looking to move back out to Las Vegas (I came back to Alabama during the pandemic to help with a close family member that has now died) If someone can get to Alabama I may be willing to sell it all and cash out. It’s never been picked through or even seen by anyone for that matter. If someone can come this week or next I can send pics of different items. I’m going to the Orange Bowl Dec. 29th and probably the national championship Jan. 8th so if I am gonna sell it would have to be prior to then. Sorry for such a long comment.

Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol will remove most adhesive residues, as well as many inks including sharpie, be careful on things like leather though. If you need something a little more powerful, acetone (nail polish remover) will also work wonders on inert surfaces, but be careful as it can dissolve more than you want including some plastics. My local goodwill prices everything so high. They even price the shoes individually which they arent suppose to do according to corporate. I found out why everything is priced for almost retail price. The district manager does a contest with all the stores. Whichever store makes more money in a yearly quarter, that store manager gets a bonus on their check. So now all the stores are over pricing everything in hopes to get that bonus. I dont think its a good plan tho bc i see the same stuff sitting on the shelf for weeks sometimes. Even if its broken they still try to sell it rather than pulling it off the self. It use to be fun to go goodwill hunting but not anymore.

You know what, that shit is crazy as hell. I've been a full time dumpster diver for over 30+ years, and sold pretty much everything in my local flea market. If I even tried to sell my movies and or collectables for even half of what y'all are asking, I'd be laughed at, joked on, and would probably end up going home broke as hell. I just don't see y'all getting some of the prices that y'all claim to be getting. Oh and just a little tip, I've been able sell my merch pretty much every weekend for over 30 years by not bragging and educating my competition about where I find it at, and or how much I paid for it. I mean I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything. I mean if that's how make your hustle, more power to you.

Where I live your best bet are yard/garage sales or Flea/antique stores because the Goodwill prices of items have risen since 2020 for some reason. Like the normal DVDs used to be $1 and the Blu-rays $2, but are now anywhere from $3 for DVDs and $5 for Blu-rays at the Goodwill. Also, they marked up just about everything else as well. I still go because you can still get some bargins, but I have better luck at sales and flea markets.

For some reason, lol. It's because of resellers. They know exactly what they have. They aren't in the market for the poor. Their rent must be higher too. Goodwill sucks.

You just gave me a good idea I’m assuming when you said news, you meant to say new. Once a week or month you should do a NEWS video “be on the look out” for items that are selling super high that you can find for super low prices. Items that you didn’t find but you would like to find if you walked into a thrift store garage sale. Either way great video. I’m taking a new approach. On looking at videos now. Because of you.

@@ThriftSchool keep us updated on it! I usually don't bother thrifting skateboards because I'd imagine the sellthrough rate is slower than other items. As a skater myself I always had to feel the board on my feet plus I had this sense of loyalty for supporting your local skate shop. Most skaters are just looking for a cheap board though so I'm sure someone will be stoked to get a sector 9 at a discount.
