Jericho Freman Let me try to stop another 'who's better' discussion here. Try to respect both completely different players the way they are/were for their own style, inginuity and soul instead of placing one above the other, like a simpleton. I'm not calling you a simpleton, but It's just that those discussions never end well, with all kinds of arguments that make no sense whatsoever about things like ones mother.. They are/were both amazing players. Personally, I love Flea because of his outstanding techniques, aggressive grooves and rhytms, popping and slapping and all that with the stamina of five horses and also his great sense of melody and ability to switch between the 'sensitive', melodical and more aggressive bass parts. I also think he's a great guy on a personal level. Cliff was very clever in his playing, because of his excellent sense of melody (he was a big Bach-fan, which you can clearly hear on various occasions) and because he was able to 'walk the thin line' while remaining a very tight player in the overall mix. His real talent was that he always knew in advance how his playing would sound in the mix, which is very important to be able form the right foundation for a nice, big wall of sound. His playing sounded very 'mature' that way. Not a real showoff as he would always just add the right amount of extracurricular notes and never really overdid those. He was very down to earth that way and had a very 'hands on' mentality to make Metallica sound the way they did back then, which was totally bitching and innovative! Also love his distorted 2 channel sound with a wah every now and then. Really suited Metallica's dark, powerful sound!

He's so cute, even if he is like 25 years older than me...
one of the best heartfelt speech. every member felt it. you can see james in tears
Dude, James is the Master of the One-Liner, but the best/funniest one I ever heard was when he was describing the auditioning process to "replace" Cliff (RIP) and when Les Claypool rolled in, James said, "Uh, no, you're too good," Greatness!!!!
Man... Flea just nailed this speech . Anthony K was right about this ... Flea is an all time rocker. Hard not to be emotional after hearing his kind thoughtful, words about Cliff.
“the playing of ferocious music is the healthiest release for the performer of it; it is alchemy, it is a metamorphosis, it is turning something potentially destructive and a source of misery into something beautiful” couldn’t have said it better myself
Flea always has the best speeches
Metallica has been with me for 29 years and I swear, they have riden with me through everything except lightening.
"The worst tragedy that could ever happen to anyone, in my opinion, is that when they die, they never sang their song to anyone. They never gave the gift that was inside them." Flea
Mom: Its your brothers turn on the Xbox Sam Me: 1:17
The finest speech I've ever heard. This is straight from the heart.
6:43.. it look that james fight with his tear.. sweet.. if i one day see james cry i think i cry with him
... that song was “Fight Fire With Fire”.
That speech was very well written and couldn't have been done by a better person than Flea he kept his composure though he did come close to crying when reading about Cliff he was fantastic for the choice to do the induction
Flea is the king of speech. The way he puts words is just incredible.
Amazing Introduction! Just as good as when Chris Rock helped induct RHCP. Both Bands are in a world of their own. The uniqueness they bring to music. And what he said about Cliff, madd love right there. BTW, James's children are spitting images of him and his wife, it's freaking crazy. But they all smile like him.
aw james started crying when flea talked about cliff ;_;
be honest you’re not watching this for the first time
The best RRHOF speech ever!! You can tell flea's a fan, because he put a lot into that speech, and he delivered it with such passion!! Flea's the man!!
Flea is by far one of the fucking coolest humans ever.
When Flea started to talk about Cliff, I notice James REALLY lost it. Great words said. Having seen Cliff in 1985, I can say this is true. As a bass player, he's the Randy Rhodes of bass. I felt that way then & still do.
no words.... just beautiful expression of feelings into words
always gives me goosebumps
