Good day, Dr. Ekberg! To obtain EPA/DHA for omega 3's, I was given information by a professional that 2 tblsp of ground flaxseed is all I need to take to get the omega 3's I require. As you do, I also buy them whole & will ground them, but only a week's worth at a time to put 2 tblsp on my cooked steel cut oats for breakfast. I freeze the whole seeds. Thanks for the great information & Cheers!

It all sounded so positive and then you said "but it is not the end-product we want" - that one is only found in fish oils. When I use it I have small mains electricity driven "grinder" and grind it "on the spot" with other seeds (inc sunflower, pumpkin) and consume it immediately its ground. I shall continue to do that. For "oily fish" I eat sardines.

I got so sick of eggs and meat on Atkins and the thought of doing a low carb diet again almost makes my stomach turn. I'm hoping the I.F. will work for me (I've been on it for 3 days and am now at 3/21 without a problem). I know this isn't what you recommend but I'm wondering if I can still eat the carbs I've been consuming (whole grains, sweet potatoes, fruit, etc.) and do okay. I've been making green juices that are mostly greens, celery, and cucumbers and some fruit to make it drinkable. I run the pulp through 3 times to get out as much as possible and have put it into my homemade whole wheat and rye breads. I make fruit smoothies with frozen fruit, ground flax seed, nutritional yeast, coconut oil, etc., etc., but I not very often. (Once a week or less.) There is so much conflicting advice out there and I don't know what to do. I figure I.F. is good because it's the most conservative (except for lots of meat and eggs). I don't have any problem with eating eggs and meat but I'm just so tired of them.

I'm not the only one! Like a flax pudding and I add blueberries in season, or let some frozen berries thaw overnight and add them when I make it in the morning

Thank you for correct scientific analysis on flax seed vs oil. While brands sell oil as concentrated oil for better benefit than seed. But you letting us know that oil is not in form of DHA which our body needs to digest... This essentially means it is much better to eat powder flaxseed freshly grounded than oil capsules. Thank you sir.

How long can we use the ground powder? I heard a few months ago that it should be consumed within 15days or it loses its goodness. Is this true? Also, could you please explain Omega 3 to 6 ratio wrt vegetarian food?

Flax keeps longer in the freezer. The colder the freezer the longer it keeps.

I think that we have to be very careful with flax, as you say. When I first bought the oil, I kept it in the fridge, and didn't use it too often, but I remember when I started using it all the time on salad. Within a few days, my prostate felt like it was on fire, so I threw the oil out, and my prostate quickly went back to normal. Looking back now, knowing how unstable this oil is, I'm thinking it was probably rancid, although I have heard that high amounts of ALA are bad for the prostate. Whatever the cause, this was my experience with the oil, and I've stayed away from it ever since.
