    planes actually do have to pitch down constantly to maintain their altitude. The only issue is that the earth is so large that minor corrections and effects due to the air turbulence alone are more impactful than the pitch to go around the earth. The earth is almost 25000 miles around, and at 500 mph, that's 50 hours to go around, or 7.2 degrees of pitch per hour. The reason you don't notice it is the same reason you don't notice any other maneuvers with much higher pitch rates, like adjusting altitude.

    I imagine it's only impressive to people who have that issue. Plenty of people close their eyes and rest while riding, and they don't get sick. The point being, there is still that dissonance between what the eyes see (or don't see) vs what the body feels, and still no nausea. Honestly I've never understood why some people are prone to motion sickness, because I don't experience that.

It's not something that happens _every_ time, or only to certain people, but I think it's more like it happens in certain situations or when several factors coincide, like when you forget where you are for a few seconds, and/or when you go over a very slight hill in a car and it kind of lifts your stomach..

    When I was 8 years old, I was confused about how the seasons worked. I thought the earth would have to wobble. My dad, who was a chemist, used an orange and rotated it at an angle around a lightbulb to show how a tilted Earth would have the North Pole facing away from the sun in the winter and towards the sun in the summer. He also demonstrated how, from our perspective, the sun would set at different latitudes throughout the year because the Earth is curved. Even at 8 years old, his demonstration made perfect sense to me. I wish someone would show flat earthers what my dad showed me and have them explain how it wouldn't work based on our observations of where the sun rises and sets throughout the year, and why the North Pole experiences 24-hour daylight in the summer and 24-hour darkness in the winter.

  • @Nathangames4

    @Nathangames4

    6 ай бұрын

    Electromagnetism is a branch of physics that deals with the study of electromagnetic forces, which encompass both electric and magnetic phenomena. Here are the key aspects of electromagnetism: 1. **Electricity:** In electromagnetism, electric fields are associated with electric charges. Charges can be positive or negative, and they create electric fields around them. The force between charged particles is described by Coulomb's Law. 2. **Magnetism:** Magnetism is the property of certain materials to attract or repel each other. Magnetic fields are produced by moving electric charges. Magnetic fields exert forces on other moving charges and can induce electric currents. 3. **Electromagnetic Fields:** When an electric current flows through a conductor, it creates a magnetic field around it. This relationship is described by Ampère's Law. Conversely, changing magnetic fields can induce electric currents, as explained by Faraday's Law of electromagnetic induction. 4. **Electromagnetic Waves:** Electromagnetic waves are oscillating electric and magnetic fields that propagate through space. The most well-known electromagnetic waves are light, radio waves, microwaves, and X-rays. The relationship between electric and magnetic fields in these waves is described by Maxwell's equations. 5. **Maxwell's Equations:** James Clerk Maxwell formulated a set of four equations that describe the behavior of electric and magnetic fields. These equations unify and summarize the fundamental principles of electromagnetism. Electromagnetism plays a crucial role in many technological applications, including electric power generation, telecommunications, and the functioning of electronic devices. The study of electromagnetism has been foundational in understanding the physical principles that govern a wide range of phenomena in our everyday world.

    I wonder: IF earth would be a cd rom, wouldn‘t you still see the curvature ? For 2 reasons: 1. The edge if visible is round -okay it would be really far away 2. if there is fog/limit of viewing distance your possible vision (limited by fog) is like a sphere, so even on a flat earth there maybe could appear the illusion of a curviture under certain viewing conditions. Of course I think flat earth is bullshit.

    If the sun goes so far that we can't see it anymore, then as soon as you can no longer see the sun, grab a telescope or even binoculars, and you will be able to see it again if it's a flat earth. Spoiler: You won't. If the earth was flat then why can we see clouds lit from underneath? With a globe, the sun goes lower than the clouds. Therefore, you can see the clouds lit from underneath. With a flat earth, it is never that low in the sky, so you would never see that.

    The reason it looks so flat, is because of how incomprehensibly large the Earth is. The curve is so gradual that it's barely noticeable, even at that height. I think the big reason why a lot of people question things like this is because they get a simplified explanation, misunderstand it, and then prove their misunderstanding wrong. Like when you hear that the Earth is round for the first time, you assume that it's going to be like a very visible curve, but in reality, for that to be the case, the Earth would have to be a LOT smaller.

The "dipping" is so subtle because the curve is so large that one would not feel it at all. 2. Having flown a Cessna I did not notice that I was dipping until my instructor pointed me to the instruments. Thought I was holding it steady just by eyeballing the real horizon but the artificial horizon (and dials) told me otherwise.

  • @Nathangames4

    @Nathangames4

    6 ай бұрын

    The laws of physics and the behavior of water provide evidence against the flat Earth theory. Here are a few key points: 1. **Gravity:** Gravity is a fundamental force that pulls objects toward the center of mass. On a spherical Earth, gravity acts toward the center, causing water to naturally form a curved surface. If the Earth were flat, bodies of water would not exhibit the curvature we observe. 2. **Horizon and Curvature:** As ships sail away from an observer, they gradually disappear from the bottom up due to the curvature of the Earth. This phenomenon is consistent with a spherical Earth. If the Earth were flat, ships would remain visible until they moved beyond the observer's range of sight. 3. **Water's Level Surface:** Water seeks a level surface due to gravity. In a gravitational field, water naturally forms a flat and level surface when at rest. Bodies of water on Earth exhibit this property on a large scale, conforming to the spherical shape of the planet. 4. **Circumnavigation:** The ability to circumnavigate the Earth by traveling in a straight line and returning to the starting point supports a spherical Earth. If the Earth were flat, such a journey would not be possible without constantly changing direction. 5. **Satellite Imagery:** Modern satellite imagery consistently shows a spherical Earth. These images, taken from space, provide a clear view of the Earth's curvature and are consistent with the laws of physics governing a spherical object. These principles, grounded in physics and observable phenomena, are incompatible with a flat Earth model. The overwhelming scientific evidence supports the understanding that the Earth is a roughly spherical object.

  • @Nathangames4

    @Nathangames4

    There are no scientifically valid "laws of water" that debunk the round Earth. The laws of physics, including gravity, dictate how water behaves on a spherical Earth. Claims that contradict well-established scientific principles and evidence are not supported by the scientific community. It's crucial to rely on reputable scientific sources and evidence-based explanations to understand the shape of the Earth. The overwhelming scientific consensus, supported by a multitude of observations and experiments, is that the Earth is an oblate spheroid. Misinformation on this topic can be debunked through a careful examination of scientific principles and empirical evidence.

    Strange enough the same curvature can be observed at sea level… and if it remains the same dozens of kilometers above, it means that the ground is actually fairly flat! Just remember that our sight forms a circle around us, what is in the center of your vision seems to be further away than what’s to the sides, and that’s because we have some elevation relative to the ground. The sides then appear to be slightly below the center. It is more pronounced the higher the elevation. Anyone can try this with a 3D software like Blender. Add a very big plane, add a camera in the center, then reduce the drawing distance to simulate the atmosphere. Now go into camera view and play with the camera elevation. The higher you go the more curvature you see, however the ground is a flat plane!

    I appreciate how both sides approached this with respect to the other side's perspective and were willing to have open minds about each other's arguments. Obviously the flat earther is wrong, as was demonstrated in the balloon footage, but showing respect to his point of view and actually listening and considering what he was saying made him more open to reciprocating the same consideration to your argument. One tip to combat the "bait and switch" aspect, let the flat earther add something to the camera rig that they can't be easily removed, like write something in sharpie. That way when you recover it, they can see what they wrote and confirm that it's the same rig for themselves. It would be even better if what they added was a secret that only they know so that they couldn't accuse you of reproducing it on a second rig.

You can still watch satellite tv or talk to someone on the other side of the world if you don't believe those things are real. Doesn’t matter because it isn’t always curvature in favor of making it look like a globe. In the bottom half of the field of view it makes it curve the other way. Just catch it right in the middle and it’ll show very close to no distortion.

    can we just convince them that the top of a 10 storey building is part of the edge that it would be perfectly safe to walk off of that too

    100,000 feet (18.9 mi; 30.5 km) being space is very debatable. The commonly used definitions of the edge of space, range from 250,000 ft to 350,000 ft. The U.S. considers people to have undergone spaceflight if they've traveled 50 miles (264,000 ft; 80.47 km) above sea level. Theodore Von Kármán calculated that the highest vehicles could fly from aerodynamic lift alone was 275,000 feet (52.08 mi; 83.82 km) The mesopause (boundary between mesosphere and thermosphere) lies from 85 km (52.8 mi; 279,000 ft) to 100 km (62.1 mi; 328,000 ft). The turbopause (line where the dominant type of air mixing changes) is at 90 km (56 mi; 295,000 ft) The FAI defines the edge of space at 100 km (62.1 mi; 328,000 ft).

    Huge respect to you guys for taking such a respectful approach. I think one of the reasons it's so hard to convince flat-earthers of the truth is because of how people aggressively shout "you're so stup1d" rather than actually trying to listen and have a conversation. Bit of a shame you weren't able to get more damning footage, but it's still super cool and hopefully opened people's minds a bit. :>

    the reason a lot of people call them stupid is because they learned from past experience that providing facts and logic will do nothing but waste your own time, I doubt a single person has seen a flat earther turn into a sane person.

    the only way i can imagine the earth being flat in a "reasonable" way is if the earth was the bottom and beyond the ice wall was infinite land. no edge.

  • @davepastern

    there's a very simple experiment - put 2 10m poles 1000km apart. Measure the length of the shadow at midday for both of them . Given our ability to accurately measure time, measuring shadow length at the same time from each location is a doddle these days. Have 1 pole closer to the equator than the other pole. See what happens.
