1990, the end of an era, and the end of one of the greatest decades of the 20th century. We've slowly been swirling the bowl ever since.

My thoughts pretty much exactly. It has been pretty much downhill from 1990 on, with out of control wealth inequality (due to plant closures, etc.) and all of the consequences of that becoming more and more extreme since then … 🤔

Amen to that. I dig your analogy. I've said in many comments that the USA is going down the toilet like Rome in 450 AD. No doubt the 90s were the last of the old USA decades. 50s-80s were great but the 90s....compared to now, I'll take them in a heartbeat.

Thanks to cellphones which people cannot put down, social media, constant fake news media hyping stories to the degree of fear mongering, and snowflakes who are offended over pretty much everything have all contributed to these weird times.

Also in 1990: -"Tiny Toon Adventures" premiered in syndication. -"Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue" played on every channel on 4/21 of that year. -UNLV trounces Duke 101-71 in the 1990 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship. -Hank Gathers dies during a game against Portland of a heart disorder. His LMU Lions made the Elite 8 after his death. -The Cincinnati Reds swept the Oakland A's in the '90 World Series, one year after Pete Rose was banned for life from baseball. -"Northern Exposure", "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", "Wings", "Parker Lewis Can't Lose", "America's Funniest People", "Cop Rock", and "Evening Shade" premiered.

A few other 1990 events: -Nelson Mandela was freed from prison after 27 years. -The 20th anniversary of Earth Day. -Jim Henson and Sammy Davis, Jr. died on the same day. -Sinead O'Connor threatened to refuse to perform at the Garden State Arts Center in New Jersey if The Star-Spangled Banner was to be played at the beginning of her concert, as mandated by that venue. She performed without the anthem, and was permanently banned from there shortly after. Frank Sinatra, who performed there the following night, said he wished he could "kick her in the a**".

We’re finally to the nineties, the decade I was born in, but we still have about five years to go. Although not my favorite decade, I can understand why people are nostalgic for the 90s. It seemed to be the last decade where there was a sense of cultural cohesion. The internet was also starting to become known to the public, but hadn’t completely taken over public life. Without social media, the internet was simply a place where people with similar interests gathered on forums. I remember my older siblings exploring the internet in the late 90s, but I was too young to participate.

Since, I was working for Kmart from April 28, 1985 and I continued to work for Kmart. I worked for Kmart until 1996. That is when Kmart Store Closed Permanently. The closing date 📅was Sunday, April 8, 1996. I worked for Kmart for 11 years. I took 1 month of unemployment. On, June 13, 1996 and I applied at a Meijer Superstore. I worked for Meijer for 16 years. I retired in 2012. Meijer is just like a Wal-Mart, except Meijer is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They have stores in the following states: 1. Michigan 2. Ohio 3. Kentucky 4. Indiana 5. ILLINOIS 6. Wisconsin I would not recommend anyone getting a job in Retail. You, just don't know if your going to have a job the next day. Because, many retailers are going out of business. And, many retailers are closing stores permanently.

I moved to Alaska (Anchorage) in 1990 for employment. My employer promised to move me back if I didn't like it. I've been here ever since. I love living in Alaska. My second child was also born a few months before moving to AK. Thinking back, it seems like having a newborn and moving halfway across the earth should've been hard. But I remember it going very smoothly. (Probably because I drove up, towing a camper, with only my dog. The wife and kids flew up later.)

My unit was part of the first wave into Saudi after Saddam invaded Kuwait. We would end up pulling deployments there for the next few years. Shortly after we handed the duty off to another squadron Al-Qaeda set off the truck bomb at Khobar Towers, blowing a massive hole is the area our rooms were when we had the duty. RIP guys, I'm sorry justice was never served for that bit of mayhem. On a personal level, 1990 was the year I got sober. 32 years have passed and I still feel great. If you're wondering if it's worth it, trust me, it is.

If I ever wound up in a 1980s hot tub time machine, I would want to collect every dime I could to bet it on James "Busted" Douglas to beat Mike Tyson that night in Tokyo. That was such a mismatch that HBO didn't even show it live and had to scramble to put the event on tv later. Oh, and with the winnings from that bet, I would sink a ton of money into Apple and Microsoft stock. Yeah, that would work. 😂

They may have 'cared'... but they sure didn't do anything productive to solve the issue. Instead of cutting back on pork barrel spending and other ludicrous government programs (i.e. lining their own pockets with kickbacks and graft), they just increased the tax burden on the middle class. It is a never ending cycle that has just gotten worse and worse and will probably result in the collapse of the dollar and our entire economy. Sheesh! I am quite the Negative Nelly tonight. Gloomy Gus? I am watching these Flashbacks and instead of reminiscing fondly... I'm getting pissed off!! 🥵. Where's my blood pressure medication?

5:58 -- Honestly, given the political/economic realities of the situation at the time, Bush pretty much had no other choice. The REAL problem and what REALLY would ultimately cost him is re-election bid the next year was doing that whole "Read my lips" thing in the first place back in 1988. There were times (IIRC) both as Governor of CA and later President that Reagan had to raise taxes and Bush in hindsight blundered big time by backing himself into a corner on the whole "no new taxes" thing (I don't think there were literally any NEW taxes in that 1990 agreement though were there?).

Started in 1980. I was there. People getting laid off because company's sold out and gave the work to China. In return we got cheap unsafe item's that began the throw away world we now live in. Over the past 40 year's we have made China RICH and look at how they pay the world back for giving employment to 1.7 BILLION people. Yes they are a bigger threat then ever have been in the past. China is now on the edge of starting the next big WAR with the world. Yes our politics allowed this to happen.
