I don't recognize America today. The 70's/80's were the two best decades. I feel very lucky to have been old enough to experience, and remember so many incredible times. It's so sick what happened to America. Decades of immorality can kill a nation.

I was 21, and stationed in Denver as an USAF Medic. I had just bought my first new vehicle, a bright red '78 Datsun King Cab. The singles scene was big then, with lots of indoor and outdoor concerts, trips to Peaches records and tapes, and dates at the local Roller Rink. Weekends were full of apartment complex and outdoor park parties, tennis, playing "Hacky Sac", and Frisbee. There was a real feeling that the future was so bright, that we'd all have to wear shades. 🤔😎

Well said. My first car was a Datsun 510, later had a Datsun 280ZX w/ t-tops. So many parties back then, usually several kegs, often ending when cops responded to neighbor's complaints. The first time I ever saw my first love was in high school, he was playing hacky-sac with a circle of guys in the smoking area.

I was in my dorm at Ohio State when the blizzard hit. It was a big party until the beer ran out. I volunteered to go out in the storm to see if I could find any. I walked out on three inches of ice, wind just about knocking me over, and not a soul in sight. Felt like I was on Mars. Then I got to the liquor store, and it wasn't just open, it was packed.

I had a similar experience at Millersville State College in Pennsylvania. With the snow plows busy elsewhere, one of my fraternity brothers had the crazy idea to go skijoring behind a friend’s car along the streets of the Brookwood Court Apartments. Amazingly, no one was hurt. He did have the forethought to wear a motorcycle helmet. #drunk&foolish

I was in the third grade and turned nine in the autumn. My greatest interest was being a Cub Scout. That summer I went to a week long Cub Scout day camp where I learned how to paddle a canoe, use a bow and a bunch of crafts. Still have the pocket knife sheath I made that week. Our family vacation was to my uncle's lake cabin that had no electricity or running water so I had my first experience with an old fashioned outhouse. That made me appreciate electricity and indoor plumbing.

I remember the blizzard of '78 very well. I grew up on a small farm in Northwest Ohio and the day before was unseasonably warm and rainy. The rain turned to sleet and snow the next morning while we were at school. They sent us home early because the snow and wind intensified so fast. We only got about 12" or so of snow but, because of the wind, it drifted enough that we could walk from the ground all the way to the peak of our barn. We were fortunate enough to have a big fireplace for heat and cooking after the power went out.

1978 was noteworthy for me because it was the year I graduated high school. I remember telling friends who were moving onto college I wanted a year to think about it. That year to think about it finally came to an end in 1992. Beyond that I will say I loved Taxi. Jim Ignatowski was one of my all-time favorite TV characters, rivaled only by Jethro Bodine. And I'll never forget Woody Hayes punching out that player from Clemson. My friends and I were watching that game and as Wolverine fans we knew the moment he did it the storied rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State would never be the same. Not that it's much of a rivalry now but that's a topic for another conversation (I mean, the other team has to win now and again for a rivalry to exist). Anyway, here's to gas for less than a buck a gallon and Bo and Woody. May they all RIP.

Everyone in the country was expecting the Longhorns to win their 4th national championship, but Joe Montana and the Irish beat them 38-10. That made for a terrible start to 1978 for me and my family. I remember it that year, it was Christmas Eve evening we were living in Ohio and we were on our way to my grandma and grandpa’s for the our traditional Christmas Eve Party, in Indiana which generally is about 45 minutes away. I remember as a little kid being scared and, I kept hoping we would turn back, but, my dad drove slow and, was calm and cool. My uncle brought the house next door to grandma and grandpa’s that year, so, he started hosting the Christmas party because, his house was bigger. We stayed up in Indiana for quite sometime but, when, it was time to go back home, dad done the same thing coming back and, we made it back home safe and sound. We also missed a lot of school that year. My dad was home on medical leave for quite sometime, so, on days we had to go to school that year, we had aways to walk to our bus stop, we lived almost at the end of the road, several times, I only got so far and had a couple of bad falls from where the ice on the road we had to walk and the side walks weren’t fully cleared, my brother would get me back to the house, and my dad would just tell us he would tell us just to stay home, he’d call the school and fix us up a glass of hot chocolate, with marshmallows or with the good stuff, fluff. Fluff in hot chocolate is soooooo, yummy!

1978 I graduated HS in May, but I had been going to HS in the morning, working at a radio station as a DJ from noon to 5, and also taking college classes at night since early 1977. I was 18 in March, and dating my fiance and the love of my life, a gorgeous redhead. Nothing was bad about that year, not the music, the movies, not anything. 'Cept maybe a lot of work. Grease was a big movie that year and the music from it was all over the radio. In the fall, Chevy Chase who had been the first to desert SNL had a movie come out with Goldie Hawn called "Foul Play" and I got a real kick out of it. My fiance and I got married the next year in June 1979, the both of us a ripe old 19. I was an AM/FM radio DJ and also program director by then. In 1981 I became a deputy sheriff and in 82 we had a son. Together ever since. I had a couple of choices to choose from and I really feel I made the best choice. I wish for everyone the same. I think the key is during down or hard times (they WILL happen) is in not letting yourself think there's someone or something better elsewhere or it's all DISPOSABLE, you can get out. (If you're not being tortured that is) That's a throwaway mentality and it's gotten worse and worse with each passing year in our society. Mostly in your 20's that's the hormones talking and they will torture you through at least half of them just like your teens, but it passes. When we got married in '79 I think the divorce rate was something like 26% and climbing. I'd hate to know what it is today. Many we know of have made it too, but a lot more didn't. Her mother and father got married at 19 as well. They marrin 1959 and are still together in their 70's. I ♥1978!!! Best year of my life.

I remember the blizzards of 1978 well. I was in 6th grade in NY and we missed so much school. I don't remember how we made up the days. My brother and I and our friends had lots of fun with snowball fights, building snow forts, sledding... Couldn't travel by car so the only way to get anywhere was by sled. The drifts were huge! It was a crazy time 🤪! Sadly, my best friend and her family moved to Florida shortly after those two storms. Her Dad, a college professor, got a job teaching at the University of Florida. I think they moved early because of the two storms.

There is also pretty thick SNOW in a lot of the first couple of Dallas episodes. I recall those snowstorms because I live in central Louisiana, about 350 miles from Dallas as the crow flies and in 76, 77, 78 and 79 for sure each year around New Years or January we'd get plastered. Ice storm then snow. The power would go out and we had nothing to do for 3-4 days. That was when I swore when I had my own home if there was any way I could afford it I'd have a GENERATOR for outages at my place. Home generators didn't really surface down here until the late 90's but I was one of the first in line.
