I can't. You people are so eager to call something "demonic" when it sounds very different from what you hear on the radio. Her lyrics are meaningful and sexual. None of her lyrics are demonic. Her sound may be odd but it's not demonic, it's futuristic. And as far as the video goes, here is the true explanation: This video tells a deep story of a woman who loved an evil man. She was the only one who saw the good in him, despite his evil actions. That's why, when he's being put on death row for his crime, she is there whispering "I love another and thus I hate myself". She loved him, and in return she was hurt by him. He had to be taken from her. In this sense, she "hated" herself enough to love him. Once "Video Girl" starts playing, twigs is the hallucination that the man is having as the drugs put him to rest. She is "haunting" him, "seducing" him. She is the reminder of everything that they could've been but, because of his evil choices, are not. The short clips of the man bleeding from his mouth is symbolism for "eating your own words" or actions in this case. The man did evil things, blood resembles evil, therefore he is getting a taste of his own medicine, literally. However, this could be the man who perhaps the man being put on death row hurt or murdered/ injured. Hence why he is bleeding from the mouth, looking deathly. People often bleed from the mouth when shot or stabbed. Her music may be an oddity, but in 10 or so years there will be even stranger shit and this will all make sense. Instead of shaking your head at this, try to get the underlying meaning and at least respect the fact that we have a female figure in music who refuses to conform and is comfortable making music that pushes boundaries and redefines what is popular. Thank you. PS: music is subjective. Technically, just cuz you don't "get it" doesn't make it bad music or even weird music. The way music is consumed is based purely off the consumer.

FKA twigs began her career in music, not as a singer, but rather a dancer for various artists. Her most popular work was under British singer Jessie J preforming in her music videos for “Do it Like a Dude” and “Pricetag” (as a marionette). She quickly gained a reputation among the industry as being “reliable” and a “one take wonder”. Although she was excellent in her craft, twigs wanted to go another direction - towards the creation of music itself. When she made this dramatic shift, however, her reputation as dancer still followed her. Strangers would still ask if she was “that girl from the video”, due to her wanting to break free from this person she would evasively answer with a short lie, “no”. According to an interview with Pitchfork: “ …“Are you that girl from the Jessie J video?” I’d always say “no,” and they’d be like, “You’re lying!” I’d say, “No! It’s not me.” They’d say, “You look just like her.” And I’d be like, “I know. So many people say that! It’s weird!”

I mean, I think the video makes sense. Having “Preface” as the opening song shows how she has become an independent artist and is no longer a dancer (“Preface” was entirely produced by her). Having the man die could be a metaphor for a potential break-up and Twigs dancing around him shows how she now haunts him, even when he’s gone. The idea of never being forgotten is presented in songs like “Two Weeks” as she sings about how she’ll make him forget about his past lover and power and independence is presented in songs like “Kicks”. It could also show Twigs’ infatuation with the man and how she’ll never leave him, as shown in songs like “Hours” and “Pendulum”. Either way, she still can’t completely get through to him, because he’s dead. Not getting through to the other person is shown in songs like “Numbers” and vulnerability is in songs like “Lights On”. The version of Twigs on the outside of the glass who sang “Preface” is like the creator of LP1, the Twigs dancing around the man who sang “Video Girl” is the persona of the album, both infatuated with the man, but also has power over him. The Twigs with the diamond on her head is the album itself. Almost human, like how the album is almost pop, but there’s something different about it (The mechanical and industrial sounds, scattering beats and experimentation). In my mind, the video shows the creation and concept of LP1 as a whole, therefore a departure from Twigs the dancer as a dancer and an introduction to Twigs the artist. Therefore, matching the overall theme of the song “Video Girl”. Not wanting to associate herself with the past, but pushing herself to a future she wants and being taken seriously. At least, that’s my personal interpretation anyway. You can obviously interpret it however you feel.

When I first started listening to her I kept wondering why she wouldn't sing louder and stop all the whispering....now I have seen some interviews and see she is purposely trying NOT to sing over the music. To basically let her voice become just another instrument in the band. A reporter explained she is singing the way she once danced...becoming part of the music. Pretty cool...

Her voice, the way she moves, her dancing...all the small subtleties...she's not just a musician, she's a performance artist. The dignity in her bearing is apparent in the way she carries herself. Twigs gives me hope not just for music, but for art itself. And it is because of Twigs' music that my husband gets laid way more than he has any right to expect. Do that shit, Twigs, you're so so amazing!

As a survivor of abuse at the hands of a loved one, i’m reading new meaning into this song and video. It’s a very intricate trauma to be abused by someone who’s intended role in your life was to love you. It changes you deeply. Often times you don’t know how to feel because it feels as if your emotional self has been split into two conflicting parts. Part A is characterized by a belief that the abuse you’ve been dealt is your own fault. It insists the burden lies on you to be more amicable-more compliant in order to earn your abusers love and feel safe again. Part B woefully disagrees and is characterized by a righteous belief that nobody deserves abuse and harbors protective, often rebellious anger over the fact that your abuser is able to hurt you so and get away with it. These parts battle for dominance inside an individual’s psyche until a winner is chosen by the individual. It is a sad and often unfair fight though. Part B, The protective and rebellious part, is more often than not neglected by the individuals conscious mind in foolish, counterintuitive, counterproductive attempts to please the abuser and avoid further abuse. FKA twigs is my hero because she symbolically represents these conflicting parts of an individual who has survived abuse at the hands of a loved in this music video. If you rewatch you may see that Part A is the Version of her crying as she watches her ex-lover be executed. The scene centers her as we hear the words “because I hate myself I love him”. Part B is the version of her that appears in the corner of the execution room almost hauntingly and dances on her ex lover is dying body to the music of his agony. Part B is liberated part B is free Part B has reclaimed her self love ❤️

In my perspective the video and the song are actually connected. It's about her dramatic shift from a back-up dancer to an artist. FKA twigs began her career in music as back up dancer rather than a singer. She was known to be reliable and the one hit wonder. She wanted to make a shift, however her reputation followed her. Strangers would ask if "she was that girl from the video" but because she wanted to break free from this persona she'd lie and say "no" The video portrays an obsessed man, he has photographs of FKA twigs hanging on the wall behind him. Photographs are just snaps of a certain moment, the fact that he's hanged them behind him shows that this is his perspective of her, and he loves it. It also showing his unhealthy obsession of her. This is how FKA twigs felt when trying to shift into being an artist. The obsessed man, being society/directors they had an unhealthy obsession with her as a dancer which made it hard for her to pull from the back-up dancer persona. The video cuts to a scene where her body starts moving, she starts to dance, however she's carrying a facial expression which suggests she feels like she's being forced to dance. Eventually, she conforms. Once Video Girl starts to play after he's set to die and starts to hallucinate. It shows his hallucination of FKA TWIGS, as she dances around the room, which is...what he believes she's set out to do/what he prefers. Then it skips to the scene where a man is bleeding from his mouth, mirroring the phrase "biting your words" as she breaks eventually breaks free from her persona. A phrase from the first verse of the song "Please, you don't stand a chance. Stop acting like you can" suggests this is what she's heard. And now they'll bite their words and bleed. It also shows as she's on top of his body that she's mirroring the action of stabbing someone (killing societies view of her as just being 'the girl from the video') It also shows the microphone symbolising music, she sings into the microphone on top of the almost dead/dead body (which is the persona she's finally killed) basically a video just showing the struggle of breaking free of her back-up dancer reputation persona which was holding her back from becoming an artist.

My interpretation of this is the guy with the A.B tattoo killed her boyfriend (the guy with the blood dripping from his mouth) and had some kind of obsession with Twigs (Pics on his wall and sees her as he dies) but may also reference to the actual songs meaning of the clash of who Twigs wanted to be vs what became of her after being in Jessie J's video and becoming that "girl from the video." The man who killed her boyfriend represents the negative attention that came from her backing dancer career, and the chain outfit can also link in with the do it like a dude video's costume theme. The "stop lying to me" could also link with the White dude's persistence and obsession with her. The I can't recognise me at the end shows the original twigs watching what's happening from behind a screen, maybe representing a psyche. Just a jumble of thoughts- this is my fav Twigs video by far.

I was thinking maybe that was her boyfriend and he had killed the man who was bleeding, she was watching him during the lethal injection, as the victim's of the family watch also. Her being the girl from the video could be because they were only allowed to speak through a video screen during his incarceration. Just a thought

I've been listening to her music for a year now. Its demonic? Let this be a damn music video please. See some positivity instead of negatives. Shit... This society is demonic. The things people do to each other. Her music is the least of our problems. She's beautiful.

Discovering your first two eps years back was nothing short of bliss. Then when LP1 dropped I was mesmerized by it; everything about it is superb, it’s one of the finest albums of the last decade, or any time period for that matter. A desert island disc for me personally. All of your intensely personal and impeccably crafted music has meant the world to me, it’s almost too beautiful. Reality is less toxic because of your art, and I thank you more than I can express 🙏

allegorical tale of Salome, the empowerment of women, the relief death brings to the lost, she dances to guide his soul south, way way south.... I like your interpretation, yet the Salome storyline permeates. The killer being put to death is an allegory for humanity, the femme, a symbol of earth... or maybe it just has sex appeal. Deep as we look or shallow as we want, I love it... ~~*^*~~ "Au Revoir Cold Pulse (R.I.P.)" Deadly is as deadly does. I play because I am the cause. Was she the girl that's from the video? You lie, you lie, you lie Nineteen, too keen Looking at the game, though Trying to make a stand for the main squeeze Please, you don't stand a chance Stop acting like you can The camera on you ain't enough? You're looking for the all round good love So nothing's gonna get in your way You're gonna get yourself broke one day Was she the girl that's from the video? Stop, stop lying to me Was she the girl that's from the video? You lie, you lie, you lie Nineteen, I see A body that can move, the hardest in the room With a quick switch, kiss Got all eyes on you now What you gonna do? The camera loves you, ain't that enough? You're craving for the whole universe So nothing's gonna get in your way You're gonna get yourself broke one day Was she the girl that's from the video? Stop, stop lying to me Was she the girl that's from the video? You lie, you lie, you lie Got something to say? I don't want to hear about it So you feeling the fame I hate, the things you're going through now What you gonna do? Was she the girl that's from the video? Stop, stop lying to me Was she the girl that's from the video? You lie, you lie, you lie You lie, you lie, you lie I can't recognize me

What I love about this is that it is ultimately pop, but turned into an actual art form. The lyrics, placed in a context of dislocated beats/melodies and stacked vocals, become haunting and enygmatic. Finally, an artist that makes me want to listen to their entire album in one sitting, for the experience of it.

It's pretty simple. The man getting executed is a representation of the "old" FKA - note the pictures of her younger self behind him, dictating he represents that form of her. Travis, now working with her, is a representation of her new self - forced to conform to the music industry. "Is she the girl from the video?" Behind the glass is this new, non-edgy version of herself that's forced to be tame for the industry. Listen to the damn words.
