Fixing side airbag error on Audi A4 B6 & B7

This is my take on a alternative fix of the common airbag error 01217 on the B6 and B7 Audi A4 (2001-2008).
Always know what you do! I even unloaded the battery from the car when I did this so there was no risk of the cables falling back in place.
The most common solution is to press the connections, I used solder and shrink wrap.

Very well explained. Worked perfectly on our 2006 A4 Cabriolet. Be warned there is very little spare wire on the female connector. Also, the 10 mm splined socket we used was too tall to get the back seat screws when on the ratchet. We ended up putting the socket in the screw and turning it with a wrench. FYI, the dealer had quoted $1,700 to fix the issue. This really saved the day (and dollars).

Great video as well as the music. And you’re right, best time to vacuum underneath. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

To reset the airbag light after you fix the wiring can it be any OBD scanner or has to be a specific one

Hi, I have this issue with an a3 8l because I swapped the seats for the S3 ones. This seats have the connector 3 wires but my car only have 2. I connected the brown and the blue like it was in the other seat and left the black disconnected. I see here that you used the blue and the black. Can you explain please?

Have no clue on how the A3 is wired. I just used the two i had here. Perhaps you should try to find a schematic over the s3 seats, maybe there are two airbags or a two-stage airbag in these?

The yellow clip. From the floor Black seat to blue floor Blue seat to White floor These colours were in this clip. The brown i didnt connect, its just hanging there. But it Will not reset U got an clue whats wrong ? When i watched live data from my computer who was plugged in i could see there was " too high " problems on driver seat also. But didnt get it as an error on the computer. Help please Cheers

Hi! We are curently having an issue with this type of problem. We had error code 01217 upper limit exceeded, after doing this repair the fault code changed to 01217 lower limit not reached. Could this be due to a bad airbag now when the cables have been fixed?

If you dissconnect the airbag, and reset the system. Does it sense that the airbag is missing, or is it still same error? Would also try with a "SRS Resistor" to verify if its the airbag or cables.

@@KJohansson yes the code comes back to driver side but now is "lower limit not reached" going to try with a resistor today and see of the airbag is faulty. Thx

Cut off the adapter and patch the cables together, either with crimps or solder like I did. :)

@@KJohansson I don't have the soldering tool but I did purchase the crimps. I notice there are two places to get at it one on the floor the other underneath the driver seat. Just wondering will either one cancel the airbag light?

@@KJohansson I try to fix the problem but it seems it's a little trickier than I thought. tried my handheld device for fault codes could not get anything. When I looked under the seat it seems someone had already bypassed it. So it has to be one of the other two the one on the floor or the one at the steering wheel. I decided to since I can't get a readout or fault code ill leave it that way for now till I can really know for sure which one it is.

@@RP-ov7cl but do you get the same error code? Try to get hold of a SRS/Airbag resistor and try to fit it to see if the error goes out. It could be a damaged cable embedded within the seat itself.
