Solution is to insert disc and immediately start tapping (not hard) right on top over disc area. Important that you tap before the reading starts. And just tap through 1st or 2nd reading of the disc (you will hear both 1st and 2nd attempts if you listen for it). Unfortunately, the solotion in this video did not work for me but will hopefully work for you and that you don’t need to tap like I do. In my opinion, Sony used cheap disc readers that start defaulting over time Edit: Woah! I've been having this issue since Crash Team Racing came out also it started affecting some other discs and it's the OG PS4

I have this problem as well. Could it possibly be something wrong from the inside or is it precisely this. Because when this problem started my disc wouldn’t come out and after a while it finally let me take it out

You can also flip the console on its side (like the PS2 days) and insert the disc. In some cases the issue is with the mechanism that accepts and plays the disc. That’s worked consistently for me.

I've had the same problem, and performing a system update did not resolve if for me.. However, I was able to temporarily fix the issue by placing the PS4 Pro vertically, instead of horizontal. You might want to try that yourselves if you experience the same issue! Keep in mind that the PS4 should be completely turned off when you lift it up and turn it, so you don't scratch whatever disc is inside or the drive itself.

@@deadasadodo1016 - In my case, the solution was to let it stand vertically. The disc drive then became part of the top half of the console and the discs where inserted vertically (disc label to the left instead of up). Hope this helps!

It happens on my overwatch then when red dead 2 came out I bought it and downloaded the data disc then downloaded the full game and played normaly the next time i turned on my (regular) ps4 then it get that sound bbbblabkknbbb then i saw the disc is not there nor the unknown disc not shown then I exited the game by clicking the button down the turn off button then I entered the disc and a unknown disc shown up

I was having this exact issue just now with Kingdom Hearts III, did what was in the video and it worked. ✌️

This same thing happened to me and your video helped me. I do remember my update being fishy. So the re-update worked for me. The clicking stopped immediately and my discs are playing. Thank you.

May 4, 2020 I recently had this problem, the console pointed out to me that the disc was not recognized, I tried all methods including tapping the console lid, but it only worked for a while. When none of the methods finally worked and I saw Sony customer service stopped due to the coronavirus, I decided to take drastic action. All I did was disassemble the reader, clean the mechanism a bit, and then carefully reinstall it on the console. And it worked, the disks were recognized by the console again, the problem is located in the mechanism of the blueray reader, I deduce that it is from the factory, possibly it also has to do with the Flex of the reader. You can try this in case you have the necessary electronic knowledge.

I had this issue for a while, and for a while whenever I wanted to play a disc, I had to flip it on the side. Lately, even flipping on its side didn't help and I had to shake it around a bit. Now I'm looking for a better fix.

Worked! Thanks so much! My brand new modern warfare stopped reading after a few weeks of playing. Did exactly what he did and it worked. I’m also hearing people say using it in vertical mode helps fix the issue but I didn’t try that. Hope it helps any one else having issues.

Yes, in 2018, there was a new update that was 55.6. I did the method that you did but it only worked when I put the disc in while it while it is downloading. Otherwise, it wouldn't work. So the only way I get to play it is that method. And whenever I try to download it again, it's still the same update.

My PS4 makes a really loud buzzing noise and it’s not the fan because the fan has been cleaned before. Basically whenever I boot up a disc in the console or turn on the console with a disc inside it makes an EXTREMELY loud noise that is literally deafening. For some reason the disc drive works perfectly and can download/read discs but it takes like 5 tries and you can clearly hear the disc drive failing a few times over. Not sure what to do here

It worked for about a day the the next day it started back doing it. I keep doing it but it doesn’t work. Help!

Hi, I'm having issues with my ps4 it was making weird noise then automatically ejecting and reinserting the disc so put another disc in then it just freaked out the whole screen started flashing I did get the disc out let cool down put another one in and was able to play its been working fine until I started playing fallout 4, fallout does work but seems to have a bit of trouble reading don't know whether the inside needs cleaning I'm not sure how to fix it any advice would be appreciated thanks.

The problem I have is when I start up the ps4 it makes weird noises and ejects and puts back in and it works from there it just gives me a heart attack everytime

I tried this and it worked first time then I saw another video where the dude cleaned the back with napkin or q tip and then stood the PS4 instead of laying down. Did this and my PS4 pro been working since then.

Similar issue here with the original ps4 and Resident Evil. It has been randomly ejecting and making harsh whirring noises.

I updated my system and it still didn’t read it, so I did the soft tapping thing and it worked again I’m starting to wonder if it’s just two dusty ?

So this did work, however, it might not be a permanent fix. I followed this video about 5-6 months ago, but as of yesterday Saturday the 14th it happened again. I'm pending the update right now but it's possible your assumption of the disc reader going bad. Like this is an early sign of it before it goes for good. Up vote this so others see a current update. :)

I'm having the same issue, my PS4 is the fat one and is 6yo (bought in 2014), it was working fine when suddenly stopped reading any discs. I tried to clean the disc, put another one, cleaning next the disc drive area (without opening it), reinstall the system firmware, initialize PS4, recreate the database and nothing works, I tried to update and also didn't fixed my problem, so I'm trying to update again after initializing... I dont know if it's a 7.51 firmware problem, if my disc drive died or if the optical device is dirty or broken, If it's something I didn't tried, I'm kinda desperate :c

I did all 6 steps on safe mode and nothing worked. Sony told me to go f*** myself when I called them because it’s been just over a year. Now I have a $400 broken console. Awesome. Going to have to perform surgery on it and check out the optical drive and hope for the best.

i just went in safe mode and te started normally and when it came on it worked just fine? becasue i also have the latest update installed, i hope it doesn't happen again cause that scared me

My ps4 makes a weird sound when i eject and insert a disc, while its ejecting or inserting the disc it makes like a loud whirling rattle sound apparently the screw that can be loosen by the harddrive is doing that but how do i fix it i loosen it and tighten it but the sound doesnt go away
