    As a chemist, may I suggest a Racal hood with an attached hose that leads to a PAPR (powered air pressurized respirator) that has the same type of filter (and battery pack or power source) on a belt. You place the Tyvek hood with clear plastic viewplate over your head and shoulders. My fellow chemists who due to their religion could not shave used them, as I did occasionally on certain projects. The only issue was the weight of the PAPR on the belt, but air lines to a stationary unit could be used. The Racal is very comfortable with the cool air flowing down from the top of your head... no sweat issues wearing it. (The rest of the Tyvek suit we had to wear was of course a different issue... very sweaty.)

    The moment these were announced, I was intrigued and put it on my watch list, maybe expecting to pick one up later in the year. A month after it launched, my main commercial unit decided to kick the bucket (it was torture testing a vat film at the time with nearly 2 millions continuous layers on it; not recommended to push it even over 60K for nFEP, but it was involved in a long trial of anti-adhesive modifiers) and left me in a bind. Somehow I was able to talk the missus into upgrading to this, and it's been a godsend ever since. If you're familiar with Formlab printers, you'll see a lot of commonality in both look and function but truly optimized for LCD tech.

    Greetings from Sussex, WI! I am creating a shelf in my basement where I have venting and an in-line fan to handle this issue. I plan to put my various printers on that shelf (as well as my laser cutter) and can close the sliding plexi door and let the fan do the work. This should be perfect for when the weather is coming and the "Wife Acceptability Factor©" makes using the garage not an option.

    Hi Paul, I have a GKTwo and when printing items on the full bed, the prints keep falling of the build plate. I have leveled the bed again and this should all be well. I also tried with a longer exposure time on the first layer, but this does not seem to work either. Any tips for me?

  • @PaulsGarage

    @PaulsGarage

    3 ай бұрын

    First i would clean the build plate very thoroughly with acetone. Then I would re-level the build plate but don't use those little paper folded things they give you. use a single sheet of printer paper. How long is your exposure time on the first layer? I use 10 times the regular layer times as a starting point, and often my first layers are even longer. I think my base layer exposure for the burnout resin i use is 55 seconds per layer. You shouldn't need it that long for regular resin, though.

    Greetings fellow cheese head. First video I've seen that suggests you need to use a ventilator with this. I keep mine in a small room in the basement with a air purifier. I also have an air monitor device. The only time the air monitor flags the room as toxic is if we run the dryer a few times. Show some chemicals in the air but at 98% good air quality when GK2 is running. Do you think the purifier is enough? Was thinking of putting a vent in that room too but was sure if it was necessary.

    buy "Grow tent" and stick a cheap low power heater in it with the printer. Can also add a sucky fileter fan to take care of the contained fumes before entering it post print too. They're what everyone in cold climates uses in winter (and a lot thru all year as the tent contains the yummy smells

    Evan and Katelyn wear the fancy helmets you linked in order to record their voice for KZread videos while having a respirator on. It might be useful to design more space inside your facemask to avoid the echoing sound and maybe a slot to put in a remote microphone. That way you could record with the mask on without spending thousands.

    We print minis. Hundreds and hundreds of them. We've also done a LOT of testing to find good resin for printing minis, and plant based resins are bad. Water washable resins are bad. Any resin that makes concessions towards being "eco friendly" are bad, and none of them are actually eco friendly. Good resin is not brittle and captures amazing detail, I prefer Siraya Tech, the Fast, Tough, and Tenacious formulas have worked out really well for us. A 20% mix of the Tenacious gives figures that are extremely durable and take a fair amount of bending before snapping.

    Interesting, I've tried siraya tech cast purple, and the navy gray abs-like which worked pretty well. Haven't tried the tenacious. I'm trying a few "tough" resins right now that seem pretty good (conjure tough, anycubic tough). I'll try the siraya tech stuff, thanks for the tip

    I'm looking to get into resin printing. The more research that I do the more I'm being put off. It seems such a danger to health. Am I just overreacting?

  • @PaulsGarage

    @PaulsGarage

    It depends. Many toxins are dose dependent. If walk into a room with a resin printer running and then you walk out 30 seconds later, that's no problem. If you are exposed for hours a day with no protection, you will probably have some side effects eventually. It's like eating tuna. If you eat tuna, you're eating mercury. It's not a problem unless you eat A LOT of Tuna. If you own a resin printer, the expectation is you will use it to print a lot of stuff. So just be safe If you are looking for exact dangers, I can't speak to long term exposure but repeated exposure usually gives people a mild allergic reaction. Like itchy skin or sniffles. This happens to me if I breathe fumes or touch the uncured resin, and repeated exposure can make the reaction worse. FDM isn't free and clear either. Maybe PLA is fine, but you can get toxic effects from breathing fumes off a machine printing ABS, ASA, and others. In general, just be careful and you'll be fine. If the machine is in a garage, no problems.

  • @sealpiercing8476

    @@PaulsGarage You need an air passage on each that has a similar hydraulic diameter as the tubes but doesn't make the mask too large for your print volume, and for some reason you want the filters a long way away from the mask, if I understand correctly. If so, over most of the cheek area you could put a flattened passage from the mouth to the back, so it doesn't bulge out too far from the current outer surface, and then at the back of the "jaw" you could put in either the filter ports or tube ports if you want the filters on your belt or something. Much of the mask would be double-layered, with an outside layer for uninterrupted decoration, an inside layer next to your face, and air passages between the two. Maybe the layers could be only a few mm apart? Anyway, that's all fwiw and you may or may not find any part of it worthwhile. I just thought the swirly styling was cool and wrote down some thoughts about how to not put the tubes in front of it.

  • @PaulsGarage

    @PaulsGarage

    7 ай бұрын

    There are check valves I neglected to show. Of the 4 hoses, 2 are intake (though filters and check valves) and 2 are exhaust (though check valve) so the air only flows one way through hoses. The only rebreathing is the volume inside the mask itself. It's kinda neat because the inhale hoses stay clear and the exhale hoses get fogged up lol

    looking at the mask , makes me think of the possibillities kzread.info/dash/bejne/mpx6maeJYc7Igqg.html allso for keeping the printer filled : you could do it the same way a chicken waterbowl works a bottle upside down with the neck / hsse under the waterline if the waterline drops it allows air up the neck of the bottle and it leaks down fluid untill the neck i under the waterline again , verry simple if you have the room to put the feed under the waterline with the machine running as for keeping the machine warm while the garage is cold : build a styrofoam closet around the machine and if needed put a 50 watt lightbulb inside (with a light shield ) as a 50 watt heater
