Fixing Polarizing Film on your V-pet

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Shout out to Ray for helping me with this and working out a solution to this problem.
Double upload today because I feel like information on fixing things need to go out as soon as possible and I hope this helps someone that has encountered the same issues I have.
This is a quick fix way to fix the Polarizing Film on your V-pet. You could get better results if you do take you v-pet fully apart.
As with all maintenance videos, Anything you do to your v-pet in the possess of trying to fix it is at your own risk. Only do what you are comfortable with doing to your own v-pet. I will not be held accountable if your V-pet ends up in the V-pet graveyard.

Awesome! So glad it worked! I think to recreate the original look of the screen, you'd have needed to take the device apart and remove the polarizers from both sides of the glass, then apply two new opposing polarizers on each side. But to be honest, I'm not sure it would be worth doing when this worked so well with so much less hassle!

    "less hassle". Sure.

@@Atmatan_Kabbaher Yes. Significantly less hassle. The method in this video involves putting a sticker on a screen. It's much easier and quicker than cutting the polarizers off both sides, removing a bunch of adhesive, figuring out the angle for both polarizers, cutting them to size, and applying them correctly.

@@rayjt9 Literally the only thing you need to do is take the back display off and turn it sideways. No need to cut literally anything, no adhesive to clean, no angling. Literally one step. So no, not less hassle than this twenty minutes of mediocrity.

@@Atmatan_Kabbaher that's not even remotely true lol From that comment it honestly sounds like you've never tried to fix one of these screens. You literally have to use a razor blade to lift the polarizer, it doesn't just come off. It's a normal monochrome LCD, same as on digital watches and the Gameboy/GB Pocket (might be worth looking at videos of Gameboy polarizer repair.) They use optically clear adhesive to glue it on at point of manufacture. If you manage to cleanly get it off and turn it sideways (I'm assuming 90 degrees) it's not really going to help with the polarizer burn, it's just going to change the polarizer angle which will invert the whole display. And you'd still need to remove the old adhesive, because removing the polarizer will damage it, and it will no longer be sticky enough to hold anything in place. In the more likely event where the polarizer does not come off cleanly, you need to cut a new one to the correct size, at the correct angle. I've literally done this dozens of times to restore old vpets, it's a huge hassle and the process is not remotely anything similar to the process you're describing. I wish it was!

@@rayjt9 So have I, and it sounds like you just have rough hands or something. I cleanly remove the backing with my nail every single time, and you need to remove the _backing_ layer and turn it sideways, not the polarizer. I sell modded casios, I'm pretty sure I comprehend how LCDs work. My next project is going to be adding an electroluminescent backlight to my V-Pet. It will be literally as easy as taking the background out and then putting the mod in. If you thinking modding vpets is hard, learn to work with real technology. This is actual, literal child's play.

I was really hoping this trick would work to do something about the faded pixels that seem to come standard on the Tamagotchi gen 1 and 2 remakes but alas, it only seems to make my screen look like a puddle of oil. Works on the Digimon but I guess 2017-23 tamas are made from different stuff.

You really shouldve just taken it apart, removed the dead polarizing layer under the screen, and then cut a new, actual square version to replace it. It wouldve legitimately been easier, looked better, and from my assumption wouldve lasted longer than this inevitably did.
