Fixing Noisy Plumbing
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Loud plumbing is pretty annoying. In this video I will nearly eliminate all of the noise that is being caused by the water hammer issue in my house.
For this there were no tools used and it only took about 5 minutes.

I had had the hammering noises when I shut off the faucets on the upper levels in my town house. The problem was solved following your instructions. Thanks a million!

Glad it helped.
I hear this in one restroom when the toilet finishes filling.

Its likely because the valve closes quickly. A Water hammer arrestor might end the noise
Help! I live in a mobile home and have pex pipes. Every time after I run the water at my kitchen sink (mainly the hot water) there's knocking/thumping sounds coming from under my dining room floor. I've had the pressure valve changed and lowered water pressure from 100 to 63 but it did not help. It also happens sometimes even when l'm not running the water..did this happen to you as well? This may not be related, but coincidentally around the same time the thumping sound started my floor boards in dining room started to make creaking/snapping sound. Do vou think it’s water hammer even though it will make the knocking sound even if I’m not running water?

Pex shouldn't make the same type of water hammer noise as copper pipes, and the pex should also be easier to control. I'm not sure if you can access the pex but I would just wrap them so they can't move around as much.
Excellent, thank you so much

are your pipes exposed in the basement? I had some left over rubber material from something I was working on and slid that under some of the pipes that were able to rub on ductwork and trusses. A water hammer arrestor might also help if it is just the kitchen sink. They make single fixture water hammer arrestors that would likely help.
Which taps do you open first again? top to bottom floors?

What about if this is happening in a 2nd floor apartment

I'm not sure. It would really depend on how the building is set up. They sell water hammer arrestors, but the land lord would probably have to install them.
I have same problem only on hot water

Did you solve it?
This worked initially, but later in the day the water hammer came back, any ideas?

Is it every faucet that causes the issue or is it just a couple? You can install a purpose made arrestor near the offensive taps. amzn.to/3AOnz7l

A well placed custom built arrestor might be able to solve them all depending on how your lines are set up. I also added some rubber I had laying around (bike tubes) in spots where the water pipes could shake and vibrate against wood. Basically space fillers.

water hammer arrestors are required by code now. The "fix" in this video does not solve the problem... all it does is introduce air into the water lines (temporarily) which cushions the rebounding pressure wave. Once the air is absorbed into the water or moved out of the water lines the hammer returns. This "fix" was primarily used on older houses which had dead end vertical water pipes (capped off) in the walls above the stubout elbows. These dead ends naturally were air traps because they were above the water movement in the pipes. This was the old solution to water hammer before purpose built water hammer arrestor devices were used. Over time (not much time) those air pockets were absorbed into the water and the dead end pipes filled with water and thus no longer preventing water hammer.
