FIXING My ANTIQUE John Deere Cabover Truck *First Actual Start And Drive*
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
It lives again! This is a 1972 Ford cabover or C-series truck. It's a C600 that used to belong to a John Deere dealership. I bought it cheap but once we got it back to the shop we found a lot of major issues with it. Today we're rebuilding the carb, replacing the starter (the old one was totally shot), cleaning it up and taking it out for it's first real drive in years.

Dad Ross twice in 3 days, this is a very welcome surprise. JR you should do a long term full restoration video series with your dad and brother. Have your dad pick whatever he wants to do a complete restoration on and literally do a full piece by piece period correct restoration on it. All of you guys are more than capable enough and it will make for some awesome memories for your family. Your dad's a fountain of knowledge. It would be a great teaching tool for future gear heads & some A tier You Tube content. Hell, make a documentary about it. There is some serious potential there.

Problem is trying to find "period correct parts" will take way longer to acquire. Why make it period correct? Make whatever it could be excellent with good current gen parts.
@smackassify
Жыл бұрын
@@CrashRacknShoot The only reason I mentioned period correct is because they jokingly mention it in the video @10:50. The reality of it is it would be quite time consuming and probably quite a bit more expensive to do a period correct restoration of anything. It ultimately depends on the restoration and the demand or value of the finished product. The type of person that would purchase a fully restored car vs the type of person that purchases a restomod are inherently different & that difference is why some restored cars go for two to three times the price of the same car that has been restomoded. Don't get me wrong I'd watch either way & It would be awesome to see them restore any vehicle regardless of modding it or not. It just seems a bit redundant to get something like a late 1950's Studebaker just to stuff a boosted LS1 in it.
@CrashRacknShoot

@@smackassify ...you're the only one that said anything about a 1950s studebaker with an LS. Just naming an extreme doesnt make the point.

@@CrashRacknShoot Most 1950s Studebaker's left the factory with 350 Cubic Inch engines so it's not that extreme. Here let me make it extreme for you and change the statement to prove your point for you. Rebuilding a 1950s Studebaker and putting a late model Honda two liter from a civic type R, that's had the forced induction removed and it's being run on a mixture of rubbing alcohol and pulverised mothballs. See how it still sounds redundant. Except now it simultaneously sounds like I'm being a smug smartass to prove a point.

Agree I learn something everytime his pops is on
Your Dad's knowledge is beyond impressive. He started assembling that without having taken it apart or never seen it before
And it's no wonder why John is so smart. His Dad explains it all when he works with him. Just a nice companionship and educator. It seems so many people are in such a hurry for when a young mind wants to know why the answer is "just because". Carbs are such a work of art and a real skill to tune. "Everything is a hammer unless it's a screwdriver then it's a chisel." Such a great line and so true! Have a good one! -Jon
I know you said your old man doesn't like to be on camera all the time but I am glad when he chooses to be. Reminds me of my pops. I'm glad he gets on cam with you. I really enjoy listening to him. He is very well versed in just about everything from what I have seen so far in the new and old videos with him. Very enjoyable fella. Please continue to keep him in your videos when you can. We can clearly see his influence on you..
JR's dad is a master of all. He fixes hydraulic machinery, electrical controls, cars, motorcycles, industrial machinery.
Your father is amazing. I could watch him repair things all day long
I really like your videos but I seriously enjoy the ones with your Dad. What a wealth of knowledge. He seems like the kind of guy to fix anything!!

I love listening to you dad hes a wealth of knowledge and explains everything rather than some people I know who just do it and wont pass on the knowledge. Should have a tech Tuesday with him explaining some repair hes doing
I'm don't live in the US but there's something really charming and folksy and about JR's father. We always enjoy seeing him in episodes. ☺️
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin, we gonna do what they say can't be done 👍
WatchJRSenior just slapping a carb together in real time with a crappy diagram on a smartphone like it's child's play, God bless this man. Glad you got this old beast up and running again, JR.

Jr you need to do more content with your dad. I lost my dad 7 years ago you don't know how lucky you are. Like your new old format been a fan for years. Take care buddy
I could watch you and our dad work together all day. He works with the ease of a man who as a lifetime of mechanical knowledge and experience. Priceless. And long may it continue.
Dude your Dad is awesome. Enjoy the time you have with him. I sure miss mine.
It’s great to see your father and brother being involved and supportive of your channel. Does your transmission require you to double clutch between gears? I remember other older trucks requiring it to shift smoothly.

Your dad had me thinking I could do a rebuild - until he compared it to a quadro-jet, That is what I have in my ' 76 G30 motor home. Fortunately I had it rebuilt in 1996 and it still runs perfect.
I know I have said it before I love seeing you, JR working with your amazing Dad I love working with my Dad learning from each other sadly working with your hands is becoming a lost art form
This is why your channel is so great….relationships with your father, brother, friends, other KZreadrs, and the people you meet when getting another car! Keep it simple and real!
JR thinks he's doing good. Then Dad walks in, Beast Mode!!!
Seriously. Your dad is a national treasure!
The main draw of your channel is consistent posts. And not afraid to tackle anything!
Seeing you work with your dad is awesome! Now it's time to repair that rotted section to fix the cab handle. Seems like a perfect spot for an old license plate!
This is the coolest vehicle ever! Always loved John Deere’s as a kid (even though this is a Ford). I remember going on road trips when I was little and seeing cap overs on the interstates and then they went away. Not only is this truck is nostalgic for me, but is also a time capsule of Americana at it’s core.
I love to see you and your Dad work together putting together the Carb
John Ross, I hate to say it, but I think I enjoy watching your dad as much as you. You two collaborating, gets me glued to the screen every time!
As the cliché goes, you don’t miss them until they’re gone. It’s usually music that triggers memories of my dad for me. My appreciation for cars definitely comes from him. This was a great video on so many levels. That little dog is just a bonus.
Went together real quick - just a lifetime of experience there 😀 always good to see your dad.
I love these old cab overs. Im at the point in my life where I have expendable income but nowhere to realistically store one. I used to drool over one a neighbor down the street that he restored and drove literally to get breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. Maybe one of these days..
Great video - really enjoyed seeing you work with your family
Love it when you work with your dad.....memories made!
When you were putting the carb on I noticed the body prop was NOT locked in place. There is also a hole in the prop to stick a rod or bolt through so it doesn't get accidentally hit. This is one major fault in cabovers. Falling cabs were known to even kill people. KEEP SAFE. Love this truck.

Dad in the thumb nail with carb parts might help the view count. I've cleaned/rebuilt many csrbs, but enjoyed watching.
Yes shout out to dad, always a pleasure the watch him work!
It would figure that you can find a carb rebuild kit for an antique cabover but parts for modern cars are essentially Unobtainium....amazing!!!!
Your Pop is great. He has a wealth of knowledge, explains things well as he does them and adds stories to boot. You should have him in more videos. Its good to see your bro more also. Keep it up, love your stuff.
your dad is a wealth of knowledge.... glad he can be a part of ur videos
Yay cabover! You should keep it as the WatchJRGo mascot!

Thanks for leaving the story about the Bridgestone 175 in your video.

JR, thank you for not giving up on this Beautiful COE! I absolutely love it!!!
Can't say it enough, your dad is a BOSS😎!!!! Great video. I really miss all of my mentors growing up.
The engine sounds great! No death rattle inside. You're Dad is awesome. I love watching him dial in that carb with basic tools. Thanks for taking this one all the way. Someone can have fun from here. My favorite JR video is a long long time. Made my day! Thanks!
Good to see your dad again. He is a very smart and interesting man.
I am building a H.O. scale Ford C cab garbage truck custom and watching you drive this relic from my childhood sure does help me visualize the model, great old truck keep up the good work loved watching you rebuild the carb I used to rebuild carbs using a Jiffy kit they were a good product, looks like the one you bought was just as good, great video...
Working on a real BENCH. His father IS a genius!!
Great video! We used to have one of those as a fire truck in the little town I grew up in, volunteer FD. I remember all those sounds of the gas 370 and the gear whine sound the transmission made. Even when I was a kid our school buses were a mix of chevy 366 C60s and ford 370 F-700 gassers and had the same sound.
Your brother has a wealth of knowledge and He is an amazing person
Nice work!👍It's cool to see one of those running again!
Thank you so much for following through with the C600. I know you said people hate it but I think that is one cool truck!
Cool cabover. I have driven one with a flatbed, loaded down. It had a 332? FE v8, etc. Was fun to drive!
O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Happy New Year…2024. It seems that many people like the fact that your dad has been part of this process so far. I think that any time you spend working with your dad is more than wonderful. I like working with my boys, either one of them. It’s making good memories for everyone! Can’t beat that! I’ve never used that carb clean stuff like that. The kits aren’t like they used to be…they included the instructions!! What comes next? I’m so glad that it’s running & rolling. It should make such a nice truck! Keep us posted! Blessings my friend. 🤩😎✌️
No one mentions your brother so I will. He knows what he's doing and does it!
Your dad reminds me of my dad, he was always ready to help and always knew what was wrong with the car. Miss that man
Always great content with your Dad (and your brother)...
This was a joy and a rarity...a father and son working together on something they both enjoy. For me, it was my grandfather. Most fathers today aren't mechanical enough to fix anything...or they can't work well with their impatient sons. Usually you don't recognize how lucky you have been growing up with such a dad...but I can see you know that already. Good for you! I also see what aided in your developing the skill-set that you clearly have.
I love the father/son relationship more than the rebuild
I am glad you spent some time with this Ford C-600. It’s such an iconic truck from the 60’s. They were everywhere. At present, you don’t see many people doing much with them. But I hope to see that changing and these finding a place in the collector car community and market. The same with the Chevy/GMC.
Always awake for these! Hey JR!
Again with the variety. Sports cars, classic cars, golf carts, forklifts, and airport tugs. I love obscure vehicles.
Have 1980 Ford COE big gasser with 5-wheel. Truffles loving the ride!!!
That’s a cool truck. I could see someone putting a tilt bed on there and using it to haul antique tractors around to shows.
Good job rebuilding the carb and replacing the starter. Love it when your Dad and brother are helping you. Also your buddy going for a ride with you. What are you going to fix next on it? Maybe your Dad could use it for towing around his shop? Needs a windshield. Change all of the fluids and do a tuneup.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. My dad passed away 12 years ago, your pop is pretty darn cool, please feature him more often.....he's a gem.
JR laughing at dad jokes is the most heart warming thing ever.
My first car had a Rochester Quadrajet, so I knew that carb intimately, with Dad's help
I'd trust you and your Pops with no instructions over a lot of mechanics with complete instructions/prints and schematics. Great Job!! Now I know that carb butterfly screws are sometimes peened......Love it!!!
If I could help Watch JR Goes and his Dad rebuild the carbonator on the truck I would drink the shot of whiskey with them and puff on the Cannibus cigars with them and get all schmoked up.
I love high-carb content.
