Robert Guy goal is good arrow flight, and given an arrow that's not too weak, you get that if you line up the arrow with the string path. You can do it by moving the rest (moves the arrow), by adding cam lean (moves the string) or combining the two. That said, I start without cam lean and go from there in a controlled way.

You know that moment that you realise that you have been checking for cam lean the wrong way and you most probably have created cam lean? Yea imma go now and fix that.

I check and adjust if necessary both top and bottom. Process is identical.

My bow won't stop squeaking

Not sure what kind of bow you have, but first would be to see what's squeaking. Could be coming from the cam axle, could be the limb rubbing against the pocket, could be the cable guard... So have someone draw your bow (or even better if you have a draw board) and you try to listen what's causing the squeaking. Once you figure out, fix may be as easy as aligning the limbs better in the pocket, or as tricky as taking the bow apart, shimming cams and retuning...
