Fixing an old Russian Industar 61 lens

The Industar 61 lens on my Fed 2 was way too stiff to turn, so I show how to take it apart and regrease it.

Thank you for this video! It was cool to go along with you. This particular lens is one of the easiest to maintain, and thus it's probably the best lens for beginners to start out fixing. Good easy experience for those with enough patience, quite "fool-proof". It's a nice lens too (optically), also with extension tubes for macro. I regreased it, but was a bit dissappointed afterwards. It was going way way beyond infinity and the adapter to m4/3 waye off. For a long time i was wondering what did i do wrong, pulling it apart and putting back together. But actually, i didn't do anything wrong. After going once from infinity to closest focus, and back to infinity fixed the way beyond infinity effect. I guess it sort of settled in. Adapter to m4/3 being so off, well it actually was so much off already to begin with and i haven't adjusted it. It's been about 5 years since i've using this combo, so i misremember it being way off to begin with. Now after cleaning and relubrication, it's amazing! What a breath of fresh life to the lens, such a great feel now.

Still a bit crippled by damaged threads... I'll eventually look for a good M39 mount lens.

This is going to be very useful as I've just picked up one of these. I've done a good number of m42 lens repairs in the past, but nothing in this format. Regarding the grease, there are a few suppliers in the uk selling grease marketed as lens grease, but that's really just a very thin PTFE grease, in a couple of different grades depending on how fine the threads are (they do one intended for plastic lens barrels). On my older lenses, I had great success with molybdenum grease, and with lithium grease in the past.

Cool, nice to hear! I'm currently using Japan Hobby Tool Helicoid Grease #10 Lubricant (or Japan #10 as i call it) and it's quite nice. For this particular lens, there could be more resistance in the lube (it's quite fast to spin with #10), but i also like it very much too. Since i'm not supporting the setup by holding on the lens (it's so tiny and light-weight), it doesn't matter. I'm not accidently turning the focus wheel.
