We take our used oil to anywhere that sells fresh oil. They sell it, of course, thus completing the circle of life. This video is a good example of why that flip front bonnet is so important! Looks like a piece of cake to reach everything in that engine bay. Glad she's running so nicely!

It's interesting to hear how different jurisdictions handle this. I remember in much younger days digging a hole in the gravel parking pad behind the house and pouring the used oil in! I seem to recall that method was actually promoted in magazines of the day!

@@EconoboxGarage I remember my dad pouring used oil on the ground around the deck posts, to help prevent rot.

Hi Ian, It's been a few years since I've owned a Spridget but I remember a fiber donut that went between the manifold and the down pipe. When you put yours together, I didn't see you install one. I didn't say anything then, thinking that there might be differences in the years & models. You might want to check to see if you need one.

I believe the donut was introduced with the 1275 cars starting in 1968. There wasn't one on my car when I got it.

The diagram from the Moss online parts catalog (for both 948 and 1098 engines) shows only the manifold, exhaust pipe, and clamp. So, you are correct, Ian, there is no gasket for your 1098 engine.

Great job Ian. Are you going to install a battery tender to your bugeye during your winter storage? Well you stay warm and keep up the great video's.

That's the plan. An upcoming episode will show putting the Bugeye to bed for the winter!

That is an option. Some service stations will accept used oil as well.

Years ago a friend of mine working in the same shop as I, put a stroked 327 in one of thoese. He died in it the first time he drove it.

Another nice video, Ian, even though an oil change is not nearly as exciting as other projects you had on the car. My Bugeye had an exhaust leak at that same junction, but I think mine was because of a worn out clamp. When I finally get to the point of starting the car, I’ll get to see if I was able to rectify my exhaust leak as well. Maybe you said in a previous video, but what brand and type of oil did you use? There are a LOT of opinions out there on the proper oil type. Also, did you use motor oil in the transmission? If so, what weight?

Thanks Joel. I used Lucas Hot rod & Classic 20W-50 motor oil, which has a high zinc content, in both the engine and gearbox.

Hello Ian......NOW ....what are you going to do all winter?

Hi Chris. Lots of little, and one or two not so little, things to do on the car over the winter. Videos will be slowing down a bit to once every two weeks rather than the once a week I was trying to maintain. Next video will be Wednesday November 15 at 12:00 noon MDT! Hope you will join me then.
