just like to thank you for this Video. our little green wouldn't spray, and my wife wanted me to fix it. I seen your video on youtube and still didn't think it would work. I took it apart the pump took about 3 minutes to be able to turn it with my fingers. I put it back together and it worked. now I can say 99% of the time I take something apart I either can't get it all apart, or break it while taking it apart and throwing it away. Thanks for the video. I figured you took the time to make this video I wanted to take the time to say Thank you.

I've had that Little Green... (I was calling it the "Little Bas*ard" for the last few years) ... in my shop area at home, on a shelf, in near-new condition... OTHER THAN THE FRICKIN' FACT IT STOPPED SPRAYING CLEANER AFTER THE FIRST YEAR... and after only 4-5 little jobs. And that included clearing the lines and all after using it. So I was doing "spring cleaning" this Saturday, and figured I'd search KZread before throwing the entire system into the trash. Your...video...was...perfect...! I can't remember why I didn't attempt taking it apart. But after watching your video, I put it on my work bench, and did just that. Consistent with your target device issue... a frozen pump motor... and I remembering blowing out all the lines last pass on repair, and still not getting it to work... I went directly to the little motor. And yes, the shaft and everything in front of and behind the small O-Ring was corroded. Beyond forcing the shaft to rotate as the primary repair, I placed an absorbent towel under the motor, and sprayed the heck out of it with WD-40. I let it drain off, cleared the corrosion, and when it was back to near new cleanliness... and this is important... I took a silicon grease, and applied it to the area where the motor shaft is inserted into the pump. After reassembly, I filled the tank half way with very hot water AND...... a couple tablespoons of CLR DeOxidizer. I pulled the hose handle/trigger apart, and manually depressed the spray valve, running hot water and CLR through the system. I did this maybe four times. Afterwards, I rinsed the tank and ran clear hot water. Point being....... the motor should have better protection from moisture. WD-40 isn't permanent, but does insure that the armature of the motor, at all points, will be lubricated. The grease at the drive shaft is hopefully going to inhibit moisture from attacking that same location again. I'm from the generation where we fixed just about everything around the house. So I was "again disappointed" to see the poor quality components in this device. That motor, as was said by another forum person, could be better protected, or possibly upgraded in metal alloy and in general design for a water-borne application like this. Regardless... Thanks very much for sharing this video. I can see that you've saved many other home-repair types from "reinventing the diagnostic protocal." I wish I'd gone through this a couple years ago when my daughter throw out her machine after it stopped spraying...... which I'll presume was for the very same reason. Best, Al in SoCal

Thanks for all the details on how you fixed it. I'll follow your method. I was at the point of mixing the cleaner with water, pouring it on the carpet, moving it around with the scrubbing wand and then vacuuming it up. Kind of a caveman work around. Reading through the comments, seems people were throwing away/donating these things because of the sprayer issue. However, the vacuum is the most important part of this device and if it works, then it's still a carpet cleaner. Just an inconvenient one.

THANK YOU a thousand times over for this! I have an older model of this machine but had the same issue. I took the whole thing apart, cleaned the water lines and... nothing. I was about to give up when I found your video. Sure as anything, I had rust on the end of the motor. I cleaned it off, added a little 3-In-One oil, put it back together, and it works good as the first day we used it. Never would have happened without your video. I wish I could like this more than once. Thank you so much for posting this! 👍🏼

My little motor was frozen and rusted just like you showed. I cleaned it all out with WD-40 and twisted till it was free, and followed up with a proper machine oil on the bearings. The pump runs like a champ now. I'm just scratching my head how they designed this so that water could drip on it in the first place! You, sir, are the man!

Real heroes don't wear capes. Thanks for this video! Mine wasn't spraying and I was trying everything I could think of before taking it apart. FYI, you don't need to remove the two acessory pieces from the back half. Also, when I got into mine, the pump motor was hot glued to the bracket so I ended up having to cut that off and drilling two holes for screws to hold it down. Otherwise my version is identical to yours. I used a product called Caig DeOxit D5 to spray on the motor. Mine was not rusty, but it was locked up solid. After using DeOxit it quickly spun freely. The machine works better than it did when new now. Thanks again!

Thanks for the video! This worked on my newer Little Green Proheat as well. The difference is, the pump/motor is located under the base plate where the clean water container sits. There are three screws to remove the base plate, exposing the pump. Two screws to unmount the pump. Two more to open the plastic housing to expose the pump shaft. Twisted the shaft with pliers until I could move it easily with my fingers. Put everything back and tested. Worked!

Exactly what our Little Green needed, thanks! I'm always very careful and run clear water through the pump after every use, so I was pretty sure there were no clogs. Solution would run through the system via gravity, but with no pressure, so I was afraid the pump was shot. But after watching your video I figured couldn't hurt to try, and voila! Like new. Easy peasy.

Had the EXACT same issue. Motor wasn't spinning due to rust build up. When I opened up the unit, the motor was super hot because power was still being supplied to it. Thankfully the copper wiring in the motor didn't melt and I was able to spin the motor shaft manually. It started to work again and the pump was pumping water once again. Appreciate the video!

Came back a few days later to say thank you! Watched other videos first with no luck. That silly little spindle was the culprit! My dog, daughter, and wife say thank you too! For others, one helpful test to see if this is your problem without taking the whole thing apart is to press the button with the hose well below the unit (maybe unit on counter and sprayer near floor) and see if water siphons & drips out slowly but consistently. If it does, the pump is probably your issue too rather than a clog.

  • @dang1854

Perfect! Simple easy fix. Thanks! Mine was an older model (1400-7 Green Machine). After I pulled the pump out, I noticed a tiny o-ring laying in the machine. It must have popped out when I pulled the pump. It goes into the impression around the shaft hole - the shaft goes through the o-ring. 2 screws at the top handle. 2 screws + 1 screw on the clean water side (2 go down, 1 is horizontal) 2 screws on the dirty water side holding a wedge bracket. After unscrewing the bracket, wiggle it a bit to slide it straight up.

Thanks for posting this with easy-to-follow instructions. The issue with mine, model 1400-Y (the inner workings are similar) was that while there was suction, it wouldn't spray. As it turned out, surface rust on the pump was the issue. Although your video doesn't show it, there's a small rubber O-ring at the base of the drive shaft. After cleaning off the rust, I lubricated the O-ring with a little dab of plumber's (non-petroleum) silicone grease, put it all back together and it works great now!

If you have the PROHEAT version, and you have tried to clean out everything and your pump spins fine.... The heater on mine (aka the black box the water tubes connect to)… it was clogged to hell and back with mineral deposits. I unhooked both tubes from the heater(black box) and ran the water line straight to the pump. Bypassing the heater. Works now and no money spent.

I'm about to take it apart again to see if the small black hose is leaking somewhere but honestly this is too much work. They need to make these things easier to fix. Also my little "motor" wasn't even rusted to begin with. I turned it very easily so this is not what was wrong with it it. Idk why my bissel decided to stop working/spraying. I even bought a new brush head for it. I cleaned out the green hose. I did EVERYTHING. and now it's even more broken.

I followed this video to the letter and not im down to where that little "drive shaft" looking thing you were playing with is, and it looks different than yours!! The two little screws that hold the thing down are angled IN making it harder to unscrew! (got passed that luckily) but STILL cannot get the thing to pop out like you did and im afraid if i yank it too hard that it will BREAK the little shaft part completely! what do i do?!!?!?

Hey would you mind emailing me a few images of the wires and how they connect for power? Pulled mine apart and now I can't figure out how to put back together.

Should have oiled the motor front bearing, and even packed a little grease around it to keep water from getting into it again.

Mine won't spray after just using it once. I've never done anything like this, but hopefully it works because I can't afford another one

I wish you could have shown how to put everything back together. And, was there a way you were able to know that the problem was fixed before putting it all back together?

It could be the valve in the solution tank. Mine did the same thing. It's an assembly with a straw that goes in the tank. $6.99 Free Shipping on eBay.

wd40 that motor next time anti rust just a little bit not alot. I know someone is going to say it will catch fire. it can but not likely I have repaired larger subpump motors with the same problems and have had one ignite ones I just blew it out. then run alot of water and CLR threw it and that will remove debris that may be in there and the remaining 4d40 so it doesn't make a mess out of your next project.

probably one of the single best informative videos on youtube... followed your instructions to a T,,,yes it was a corroded pump shaft...cleaned it used a bit of WD40.. and it spun forever...HOWEVER... once i got it all cleaned and primed and put back together... it's when i discovered... The impeller .. ya know that piece of shit 2 cent piece... that is glued together ..was the main culprit.. BROKEN...I called 6 SIX repair shops..and then emailed bissel and got intouch with their support people by phone..THAT PIECE.. they won't send you a replacment....Mutha F**KERS...off to buy a better designed cleaner

Mine is brand new out of the box and the fact it doesn’t work doesn’t suck anything or spray water is a little disappointing. 😒
