Fix Your Crooked Bare Shafts when Bare Shaft Tuning a Recurve Bow | Recurve Archery Tuning Series

Спорт

Crooked Bare Shafts are very common, I show you in this video how to fix the confusion over a crooked bare shaft while tuning your recurve bow. People ask me often: How do I fix crooked bare shafts or Why is my bare shaft crooked in the target? The explanation is simpler then you may think.

    So simple yet my mind couldn't get it for some reason. Very nice Jake, now time to retune the bow again.

    Thanks Jake. I have the situation where the bareshaft nocks land up higher than the point, ie. pointing down. Whereas the flighted arrows nocks are generally slightly under (pointing up). 20yrds.

    Hi Jake. Another question: at 30 meters bare shafts land to the left, but at 18 meters land to the right! What the cause of this issue? Many thanks

    first of all, i would declare there is nothing you explain that doesnt make sense or doesnt work. it simply is the most well described and high level knowledge i have seen. Flatery wont get me anywhere so here's a question. Supouse we do a stiff button/plunger tuning, we stick a matchstick in it and because our arrows are proper stiff and bare one veers to the left, we crank up the weight on the bow, at some point the bareshaft groups. Why would we take the matchstick out? :) it's tuned, right?

    or do we start with hard button at 30m and then we walk back from say 70m making it softer as we go?

  • @JakeKaminskiArchery

    @JakeKaminskiArchery

    Simple, Forgiveness. As pressure mounts, your form changes (ideally it doesn't but lets be honest everyone feels the nerves) from shot to shot, therefor your tune changes too (change in form means change in tune) and impact points will shift. The plunger helps take out those inconsistencies and "adjust" to the changes. Plus it offers a level of adjustability outside of the rigid limitations of the match stick method. ie. Fine tuning at distance.

    I'm not trying to be difficult, with social distancing, I'm limited to a 15yd distance. When I shoot bareshafts, I'm seeing that my bareshafts are straight, and my fletched arrows are looking weak. Is that just a symptom of the short distance?

    Great episode, thank you very much. By the way, will you consider a string making episode? My questions : its like every recurve or traditional guy on KZread don't twist their strings before the middle serving.Neither do they wrap the twists they make when doing the loops into the bonding serving of the loops. But people around me keep talking about this two tips offline. What do you think? Thank you again.

    Hi Jake, thanks for your great videos. You mention that at 18m the bareshaft may not have enough time to plane off and so enters the target at an angle. Is it correct to then say that if the bareshafts are in the target tail right that they are stiff and tail left that they are weak?

  • @JakeKaminskiArchery

    @JakeKaminskiArchery

    4 жыл бұрын

    In general, yes. However if you went to 30m and fixed the stiff/weak issue you can still have the left right angle if your center shot it off as mentioned.

    Jake, Great info again but in the video the straight fletched look crooked probably due to camera placement. What is your experience at 25 meters (the max we can shoot indoors on regular hours) currently outside shafts will probably fly a few meters off as it's stormy outside ;)

  • @JakeKaminskiArchery

    @JakeKaminskiArchery

    4 жыл бұрын

    Not the camera placement. Either way it’s not relevant to what I’m saying. A lot of people actually end up with crooked bare shafts when tuning. And these are the solutions. 25 is okay but 30 is really Optimal.

    Great video. Couple questions, first of all, I was bareshaft tuning from 20 yards and I shot 3 rounds. One round I grouped the fletched and bareshaft together and it was money. The second round I shot the fletched arrow and it was money but then the bareshaft kicked tail left and hit to the right of the fletched arrow. Then I shot a 3rd round and my fletched arrow once again hit dead on but my bareshaft hit tail low and high and sometimes they go tail high. I don't know what's going on but I have some inconsistencies with that bareshaft when my technique is good unless it feels like a bad shot. I shot multiple rounds to see if I can group the fletched arrow and bareshaft again and again but unfortunately it's not. I shoot a 64 lb bow with a 340 spine. What could be the problem? And second question is should I dial in my center shot before I bareshaft tune?

  • @CampfireKodiak

    @CampfireKodiak

    Жыл бұрын

    I have the same problem sometimes and I believe it's bad form. In one video I saw they said if bareshaft is right and nock left then you have something else going on and need to work on your form. Also being over bowed can lead to bad form.

    So when I first begin bareshaft tuning, how much plunger tension should I start with?

  • @JakeKaminskiArchery

    @JakeKaminskiArchery

    Hard to say depends on the arrow and draw weight. At 46-50 lbs on an X10 I used 5.5ish setting on a beiter plunger with a medium spring
