Fix Neck Hump FAST With These Home Exercises!

Fix your neck hump (buffalo hump, hunchback) in just 5 minutes a day with these 3 simple steps! Performing these exercises regularly can help eliminate neck hump and improve your neck posture once and for all. The key is to mobilize the vertebrae in that area of your spine, stretch your tight chest and neck muscles, and strengthen your back and postural muscles to keep yourself in a better posture. ===================================
WHAT IS NECK HUMP?
You have seven vertebrae in your neck. In instances where the head comes forward, the bottom vertebrae (lowest in your neck) tends to protrude out the back and become a little more prominent. Because this becomes an area of high pressure, your body lays down extra fat in that area to protect it. This gives the appearance of this “neck hump” or “hunchback” posture.
WHY DO YOU GET NECK HUMP?
At its core, this “neck hump” is really a posture issue. Your head should normal sit squarely on top of your shoulders, but when it doesn’t that can lead to problems. As your head comes forward and your shoulders start to round inward, your 7th vertebrae becomes more and more pronounced resulting in this “hump” or “bump”. Your body then starts to build up fat tissue around it to protect and cushion it which contributes even more to the problem.
HOW TO GET RID OF NECK HUMP/HUNCHBACK POSTURE
The best thing you can do to eliminate this “neck hump” is to correct your posture. If you can get your head seated squarely on top of your neck and over your shoulders, the neck hump will resolve on its own.
HOW TO CORRECT YOUR NECK POSTURE.
This is best accomplished with consistent performance of the following three home exercise techniques: vertebrae mobilization, stretching areas of tightness, and strengthening your postural muscles to maintain this good alignment.
1️⃣ MOBILIZE THE VERTEBRAE
A simple pair of rolled-up socks works very well. This can be done in supine or standing and I also demonstrate a technique using a foam roller.
(2:13) SUPINE MOBILIZATION TECHNIQUE
(3:14) STANDING MOBILIZATION TECHNIQUE
(3:53) FOAM ROLLER MOBILIZATION TECHNIQUE
2️⃣ STRETCH TIGHT MUSCLES
The muscles in your upper neck, chest, and shoulders tend to get tight and pull you forward into a rounded position. Stretching these will help with your neck hump appearance.
(4:59) CHIN TUCKS STRETCHING
(6:14) DOORWAY PECTORAL STRETCH
3️⃣ STRENGTHEN POSTURE
Strengthening the muscles in your back and shoulders will help to keep you in a good position to not only eliminate neck hump now, but prevent it from coming back in the future.
(7:19) SCAPULAR PINCHES
(8:15) RESISTANCE BAND ROWS
(8:47) RESISTANCE BAND HIGH PULLS
I hope these tips and advice help you with your neck hump postural goals!

I think there is one thing that is missing here which is a focus on the core muscle strength. I've had bad posture most of my life and one thing that really helped was strengthening my abdomen. Even just keeping my abs slightly engaged instead of walking around with my stomach hanging out made a significant difference.

@@summerm1336 Pretty much. I've noticed that just sucking in my stomach moves my head back about 2" and keeps my shoulders aligned. I think when I let it just sort of hang out it pulls my chest, shoulders and head forward. I started doing sit ups and planks in the mornings and that has also made a significant improvement in both my seated and standing posture.

@@al3xiskingst0n I have a lot more confidence now! I actually had my bf take a pic of my neck on our walk yesterday because I felt odd having the back of it out… I do believe I’ll always look slightly humpy because my spine is not exactly straight, I only tried this a couple of times so I can’t say for sure if it helped. I’m down 76 pounds now so I think losing the 20 pounds helped, the extra fat there definitely exaggerated the hump.

I bought a foam roller last year and it’s honestly the best thing I’ve ever bought! I feel like my posture is better already and I’m even able to feel my neck click when I stretch it for the first time ever. It definitely helps with loosening the muscles

Hello out there! What do you think about the "W I L T Y" stretches with the resistance band? These are the formations of the English letters with our arms as we stretch. For example, the "face pull" mentioned by Jared will be the "W" stretch. Likewise, the "I" will be done by holding the band handles, fist down and touching each other and raising the arms from bottom to top feeling the stretch. "L" will be raising 1 arm up and the other horizontally in a 90 degree angle and switching sides. "T" will pulling both arms on the sides stretching your chest and "Y" will be raising your arms up in a Y formation. Leave your thoughts below!

Can you do the last technique longer on the foam roller? Compared to the amount of time I can notice Im hunching forward, it feels like doing it for only 1 minute throughout the day, it will take forever to see results? What say you? If I have all the time in the world, how long would you recommend? I also notice when Im reading a book, yep Im hunched forward neck forward. Watching tv I notice Im hunched forward neck forward. Any tips or vids on how to read books without hunching? I have tried holding up the book so the eye line isnt looking down at a book in my lap, but it hurts the arms holding it. Or watching tv the same? Holding correct posture as you watch movies. Proper ways to sit so you dont revert back to your old holding patterns. Its taken over modern lives. Were domesticated human animals hunched forward on our phones, looking at tv. lol

Thank you for this video! I have a bit of a neck hump that I've noticed getting prominent the past couple of years. Having gone to theater school we had plenty of exercises to maintain posture. Though that was over a decade ago and at this point, and I have thus slipped into bad habits of slouching, though I try to be posture-conscious. I feel like my bones have changed as my upper frame just looks different somehow. I also have hypermobility and am able to squeeze my shoulder blades together TOO easily... O_O. I dunno if that's a good thing. My back actually looks really straight. Yet, somehow, that hump at the base of my neck looks so weird and out of place in comparison. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I noticed you didn't talk about sleep positioning. I'm wondering if I'm sleeping wrong and that's what's causing my neck hump :L P.S. You have lovely posture

Keep in mind that if you are a thin woman it may seem far far worse than it actually is in truth when standing straight. I am just assuming as I am a male but that does not mean you should not do these exercises though. In my opinion these would even be good for someone who does not have one at all.
