Fix leaking dripping taps - Plumbers DONT want you to know !!!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is three most common causes for leaking and dripping taps and how to fix them DIY. I will show you what plumbers don't want you to know and save you thousands of dollars. Leaking drippings taps are due to the washers having a poor seal. this can be due to bad washers that need to be replaced or a worn out tap seat. The washer is simple to replace and i will show you step by step how to do it. The tap seat can either be restored with a resurfacing tool or you may need to replace the tap seat. Don't pay a plumber to remove your bathroom tiles and replace the tap assembly. There is a much easier and cheaper way to do it yourself for around $45. HELP 😢 PLEASE! I followed your video on how to do a simple washer change and now when I turn the bath taps on, water is coming through the wall.... What have I done wrong?
Bloody brilliant Bill. My dad (retired plumbing industry) was very disappointed when I told him I fixed it myself with this videos help. He had even gone to his shed to get his old tool box.
Magic. Thanks for this video. The new tap seat is what i was hoping for. Never new you could do that. You have saved me a plumber bill. Thank you so much.

Tap spanner! Thank you for using the name so I don’t have to walk around Bunnings showing teens a screenshot of some metal hexagon
A big thank you as I'm on the brink of having to change my bathroom sink washers myself 🤦♀ girl power to the rescue. I have to rummage through my fathers tool box to find the needed tools do most of the task. Watched this job done many times as a child so wish my luck 🤞
Just a shout-out... Man, these are seriously impressive how-to videos.
Great Mate. That is exactly what i needed. Tried to shave but that did work so I am going to do exactly what you have shown us.
Finally the solution. I had a micro crack in the seat and I have tried reseating this about 4 times and feared I was getting close to flogging it out for good. This has fixed the problem. You are a legend Bill.
Great video Bill, I love the knock-up you made, excellent stuff. I was amazed 20 years ago when I came to Australia, that these old fashioned taps were still a thing. Ceramic washer taps were unheard off 😂
Another great, helpful video. Well done Bill. Your explanations are perfect, not over complicated and give confidence to the home handyman that they could do just about anything around the home.

Thanks a million, it's so easy and quick to do as long as you have that Tap Spanner. Annoying drip now gone after replacement washers.

Thanks for your video. I've never experienced a plumber actually flushing the taps after reseating, so now I know why I have to keep getting them back to fix dripping taps! Ceramic disc taps are the way to go though.
Too easy. Awesome video. Subscribed
Great video I've done steps 1 and 2 for years to fix my taps but always thought how can I fix a tap fitting which has been refinished multiple times, never knew about the rethreader kit!! Will keep that in mind, if I ever get that far up s*^t Creek!!
Thanks so much @billshowto I'm an elderly lady and my husband no longer can do handyman work. I'm excited to learn from you. I'm so very sad my husband is no longer able but it does mean I now get a chance to do things. Blessings and Thanks 😊❤😊
cheers Bill, very timely. I have a set of taps that are leaking again that I did the tap seats in years ago, I'm hoping another go with the reseating tool will do the job, but that hydroseal looks like a game changer if it doesnt!

Good job. That kit's been around for years. Haven't had a tap where I've had to go that far, but it's a good s option if required. There's one leak which is rare but you can add it to your list and that is the spindle o-ring.

FANTASTIC, AND EXTREMELY WELL PRESENTED. SIMPLY EXPLAINED DIFFICULT ACTIONS. I LEARNT A LOT. GREAT JOB. I ACTUALLY HAVE A MASSIVE LEAKING TAP, AND NEED TO RESEAT THE COLD WATER. THE PLUMBER MADE IT WORSE.

Top video mate. I’ve not seen these kits before. I thought the only option was just to reseat the old one. I recon teflon tape might be the go instead of lock tight though, as who knows, the replaced seat might need replacing again in 20 or so years. Thanks for sharing!

The hardest part of the process so far has been that my tap cover does not just screw off lefty loosey, with 40 years of corrosion :)
Great video thank you. Does the new seat simply sit over the old one after the new thread has been created?
helps at times to open the tap a turn before you try to loosen the spindle, then you are just working on the thread minus any pressure/friction from the washer
Hi, great video. What would you suggest would be the problem if you had a ceramic tap which was leaking? Same procedure?
AWESOME
Can you do a video about old taps that have the hot ans cold coming out of 2 separate outlets
I have found is easier to reseat then put new 1/4 turn ceramic tap good for 100 years. Just clean the seat up with the tool no need for the insert if putting in the ceramic tap. Has its own seat. Bit expensive though. But I was desperate very old house.
Hey bill can you still shave the seat on the hydro seal or does it have to be the original seat?
with the tap seat replacement, it may still leak if the threads were made a little loose, and you can fix that with a bit of thread sealer
@billshowto Hey Bill I reseated my tap seats for the shower in my bathroom with the reseating tool. One of them (cold tap) had noticeable damage/crack (about a quarter of a millimetre). I eventually stopped because I was hesitant to shave any more copper off. I flushed everything and reattached everything. When I turned on the shower, 3 noticeable changes: - The shower head pressure was much weaker (I changed to another shower head and the pressure was still low). - And when turning the cold tap slightly after the hot water, it would get cold quickly. - Leak has significantly stopped. Are there any explanations and fixes for this? Logically, I thought I did everything right. I'm feeling defeated at the moment. 😭
Great vid. My shower spindles are covered with some sort of clear silicone, preventing me from unscrewing them. Can i cut around this to unscrew the spindle?
@billshowto
10 ай бұрын
You can cut the silicone out. The silicone is sometimes used to create a waterproof seal and prevent water from making its way into the wall cavity

@@billshowto Do i need to put more silicone down once im done changing the washers?
Hi bill, can you give some ideas , roughly how much charge install new hot water system ?
@billshowto
10 ай бұрын
Would depend on what type of system your installing, where and the type/location of the old one.
Great video. I resurfaced using the drill bit but still leaking. Can i reseat the tap if i have already resurfaced twice? I just dont want to cause more issues trying to do it on the cheap. My wife is already suggesting a plumber

How'd you go with reseating the tap?
@Billshowto/ anyone What if the outer covers are stuck on tight? how do you solve that?
Always put a little bit silicone behind the new seat. This is the tips from work. The rubber washer at the new seat sometimes can also cause leak. A little bit not much silicone absolutely can help.
@billshowto

Silicone may work but I haven’t tried. Loctite is what I would use👍👍👍

With that last tool....how many times do i spin it or do i spin until it wont anymore? Thanks
I'm watching you Billy 😂
Hey Bill, if after reseating, new washers, valves etc and there's still a slow slight drip is that when you replace the seat itself with the tool shown in this clip? I think the answer is yes but wanted to ask before going ahead 🤣 After that next step is calling a plumber cos I only did new new bits and bobs listed above only 12 months prior 😢
Great video Bill 👍 plumbers cost an arm and a leg, thats why they call them butchers 😂

Looks like Estilo Chrome Wall Top Assembly, $26.98 @ Bunnings
Hey Billy if you used the reseater tool to reface the brass why would you have to replace the tap seat afterwards?
@billshowto
10 ай бұрын
Sometimes the seat has markings that would take excessive resurfacing and may be too far gone. The seat should be resurfaced as much as possible before installing the new seat either way to have it as clean/flat as possible 👍

Hi Bill, before the spindle part sometimes lucy is now a tighty. Can you provide solutions to this when that is stuck? I have damaged mine in the past but didn't care since I was replacing anyway
@billshowto

Which part is stuck? The spindle or the covers?
@stevenlane729
10 ай бұрын
@billshowto I recently had to replace the Oring in a basin tap, the cover was cone shape, the thread was full of debris and maybe a little corrosion, that was a prick to remove. Great video once again, thanks for sharing.
I did this year's ago and made it go from a drip to full flowing water that I couldn't turn off. Ended up costing 1000 to get a plumber to fix it. Not sure what I did wrong or how they fixed it without removing tiles
after replacing the valve when I close the tap I have to tighten the tap so hard. does this means it's a worn out tap seat
you better start avoiding the plumbers next time your on a work site😂
@billshowto
10 ай бұрын
Lol 👍
Another hint, if the plumber does have to be called to replace the hardware, and it is tiles, tell them to go in from the back. It is easier to repair a painted wall, or even carefully remove then reinstate bricks.
I must have missed a step. why do we need to make new threads to install the new tap seats? couldn't the old tap seats be removed and screw in the new tap seats?
How do you know the thread is completely done?
When replacing the tap seat why do you need to make new threads, the previous seat would have had threads?
What about for taps on the shower with only one spindle?
