Fix broken Newmar baggage door latches and guides for less than $6!

In this video I show you how to DIY fix your Newmar motorhome baggage door latches for just $6 instead of $66! One of the biggest issues on Newmar Motorhomes are the latches on the baggage doors. Often they are improperly adjusted, requiring slamming them to stay shut, which results in busting the plastic guide and sometimes bending the latch. Sure you can buy the parts from Newmar for over $60 to fix it, but why? Watch the video to see how easy it is as I show you how on my 2021 Newmar New Aire 3543 and the links below take you to items I purchased in the video.

Just found your video after rebuilding two of my latches. None of the doors on my older DSDP have the plastic latch guides. Is there somewhere I can get a pattern for the guides? Are the bolts holding the guide machine threads or sheet metal? If machine treads do they self thread into the plastic guide? Your thoughts on using aluminum? Great info keep it up.

Great find! Not sure why your video was taken down by IRV2, but this was a good find on those latches!

They would not let me post my channel the way I did. Or have it in my signature. However, if you post a thread about the issue, then I am allowed to respond with a link to the video. I know. But that’s the direction they gave me. Thanks for watching our new channel!

Great how-to video. One of our guides was broken and rattling around in the door when we took delivery of our New Aire. I took the door cover off and found the broken top piece, but didn't see any obvious place it came from. Now that I've seen some posts about it, and your video, I know what's wrong. And we have a bent latch too! Of correct it's out of warranty now, but at least I can fix it myself. Thanks for the video!

Have you considered using 1/4" Aluminum plate to make the plastic part of the latch? An aluminum latch would be much more durable than any plastic part.

Great video and solution to the problem. A NOTE OF CAUTION: I ordered latches from WescoFastec, but got the wrong ones. Although your link to the RH and LH are correct, the pictures on their website are backwards. I matched up mine to the picture, so got wrong one. Talked to Fastec today, and they confirmed the pictures are backwards. Their customer service is fantastic. They are sending me 3 RH latches at no charge and no shipping. Just remember, use RH on Newmar side opening doors on passenger side. SKU: 20141-06. Not sure when the pictures will be corrected.
