Five to Eleven with Edward Petherbridge: Episode 1/5
Фильм және анимация
Five to Eleven was a popular television programme on BBC1 which ran between 1986 and 1990. Different celebrities of the day presented poems or short readings in a simple format. The programme was screened at 10.55 each weekday morning. Each episode was approximately four minutes in length.
Here Edward Petherbridge presents poetry and prose on different stages of life, from birth through to old age and death. In this first episode he reads Cecil Day-Lewis's poem 'The Newborn' and a stanza from Wordsworth's 'Ode: Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood'.

Thank you for your appreciation - Edward Petherbridge
I would so love to listen to whole volumes of poetry and classics read by Edward Petherbridge! I love the Lord Peter Wimsey novels but never imagined the characters could be portrayed so well and made believable, so at first I was reluctant to watch them - but Mr Petherbridge and Harriet Walter were superb.

That's how I came to be aware of him. 😊 Got into Dorothy L. Sayers, found the three with him and Harriet Walters to watch; listened to the audio books (he read a few)- 😍. Now I'm looking for more and hope that I won't be disappointed! 😉
This five-part series from Edward Petherbridge is fabulous. Why has he not received wider recognition? Terrific actor; talented artist and writer; so knowledgeable about the theater. The best. But no OBE? Angelina Jolie has an OBE but not Petherbridge?

I noticed that some people mistake his subtlety for something else - coldness, bland acting... I wondered how this could be, but I suppose one does not necessarily have the energy to pay as much attention as it takes. I don't know, really.

What a man!!!!!!!! And so well read. Very Shakespearean
I learned of Edward Petherbridge by watching Dorothy L Sayers *never liked Ian Carmichael / but completely fascinated by the acting and charisma of this man. He was Lord Peter Wimsey! So why is not more heard or known of this brilliant man.

I was not convinced by Ian Carmichael as Lord Peter Wimsey- but then, all the (main) actors were at least 10 years too old (and it showed...) for their roles. I will say, though, that I thoroughly enjoyed Ian Carmichael _reading_ the audio books. 😊👍
Happy memories of watching Five to Eleven. Off school for genuine or fraudulent reasons , reclining on the sofa enjoying five minutes of peace and poetry in the turmoil of strife. I wonder how many episodes remain in the BBC archives, all I hope. This is the only complete one I can find. Edward Petherbridge what a great actor, and wonderful speaker. Very thoughtful and intelligent man. Thank you sir.
Fabulous!!!..... Thank you kind sir! Your voice and gentle manner , brings the words to life!...
So happy to have found these videos
..."its enchanting Spring".....💛🍀 wonderful ! Thank you 🙏
Why has nobody commented on any of these? Edward Petherbridge is awesome; someone should post clips of his Lord Peter Wimsey.

kdoply all three of the Lord Peter Whimsey - Harrett Vane mysteries are avavaible on u tube. Their acting makes the love interest believable.
I have stumbled on these wonderful readings by chance. I wish there were more. Wonderfully delivered. Thank you for posting.
the presence and the voice are a heady combination, the poems beautiful- and any idea that Wimsey couldnot be real is thwarted by his interpretation which is consummate.
Thanks for uploading these Mr Petherbridge, they bring back so many memories for me, memories of days off school as a child.
Lovely. I wish there were something like this today.
It is a great poem isn't it? EP
I love Edward Petherbridge, , also discovered him watching Dorothy L Sayers, thought he was brilliant ❤️
Yes Craig Jones, I agree with you, why has he not got an OBE, he is an utter joy 💕
Watching this depresses me. It only makes me realise how awful and dumbed down television is today. Can you imagine finding anything like this on ANY channel today? I wish the BBC had a channel simply for old television like this.

This was part of the game - dumb down the entire world populace to mind-controlled, dumbed-down automatons.
The word "dread" hits home with me, after having spent researching my family tree, and seeing so many entries in the churches' books, telling of still-born children...
Well I think a few fans are agitating, but I don't see it happening. 5 to 11: ah, they don't make TV like that any more! Edward Petherbridge

Edward Petherbridge Getting better and better.....
Edward Petherbridge- simply delicious.
Nothing for the last 10 month, I’m afraid his health isn’t good. Does anybody know more in GB ? Across the pond we won’t hear neither truth nor rumors.

Do check his website - it's worth it. :-)
Swoon!!
Meh, lowest common denominator on TV. When there is money to be made through advertising and the licence fee is stretched...
