My heart lit up when I saw the notification that you had posted a new poem. I'm so glad you write poetry and have the courage to share it with us through videos. Growing older is a challenge you are meeting gracefully in your writing. Thank you for your thoughts and your example. My love to you; to sweet, courteous Bean; and to Kathleen.

Edward Petherbridge, thank you for everything you give the world. I like very much your story of synchronicity. Here's another: my birthday is one day off from Harriet Walter's -- mine September 25, hers September 24. I fell in love with you through your Wimsey performances in the mid 1980s and, as the years go on, you only get better. Again, thank you.

Really lovely Edward. Thankyou for the sonnet and for all the hours I have enjoyed watching your sensitive acting. The same for Emily who I have been rewatching in the Dark Side of the Sun. She did an amazing job. I love you both .❤️🙏🕊️🦮 I love your little dog too ❤️❤️

Thank you, Mr P. As often as good poets have expressed the thoughts you have here, they are no less relevant, or poignant, or true from bone deep. And your reading is, as always, moving and uniquely musical.

"The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow for it is soon cut off, and we fly away." (Psalm 90:10 'A Prayer of Moses the Man of God') Also, "They shall still bring forth fruit in old age, they shall be fat and flourishing;" (Psalm 92:14 KJV) Happy Birthday!

The sight, smell and light reflected by the leaves in Autumn have their own character and important part to play - just as with any other season of the year. The same is true of the different stages of life: their own character, importance and their own beauty. My father is now 94. When he retired at the age of 65, I sent him a card with the words, 'For the next step forward...' This sonnet is full of character, it importantly fills a gap in us we didn't realise was there and it is beautiful. It helps us all to take, 'the next step forward.' Thank you.

Sweet poetry. Brings to mind what King David wrote about 3,000 years ago, "Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembreth that we are dust. As for man, his days are as grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more." (Psalm 103:13-16 KJV)

Nicely spoken but I can't identify with the words. Most people have memories of bad things, distressing things and sorrowful things which largely eclipse the rare good memories. The sonnet should be able to encompass all memories - good and bad...
