Very helpful. My 14 yo in stage 2. It could be worse. But she is def on my nerves. lol. I really have to detach from outcomes AND mourn the loss of her being a child, that grief hurts very badly.

My daughter just turned 13 and you are spot on saying teenagers are a different kind of creature, far cry from the sweet little girl who was always by my side doing everything together. It's not that she's bad now but she is different, which is something I have to accept and deal with. I love when you said we need to love our children no matter what and even if. Thank you for being such a blessing to the world and taking us along this journey called life and parenthood.

because each video is so chuck full of super important information, maybe consider having shorter videos to allow for processing time lol! for example, I've now watched a bunch of your videos and finally begin to process "my job is to love my kids no matter what and even if"

My daughter turned 10 and immediately went into puberty and into the attitude of a teenager. Suddenly didn’t want night time stories, no playing with her dolls, teddy bear, etc. suddenly mom and dad are annoying and embarrassing. The kid to teenager mentality and grieving is spot on.

Mine too, she is being rude, want to spend whole time face calling friends and being served..bring that..I want that..I need to eat..and..and..and when I say..do the bed..clean the room..I have to repeat it 10 times at least..then I end up yelling which I hate cause it kills my nerves too..see shouts back or give my attitude, I am frustrated..I am tired..I feel sometimes that I hate her or I want to send her to her dad..or I raised a horrible person..and I failed as a mother..It literally wears my out ...i need help..I don't know what to do

Yeah same, I am a teenager and I did change, especially for the fact that my childhood sucks... At my family's household, you do something wrong, you get beaten up or cursed at. Im a pretty quiet person now and avoid people at all costs. I didnt realize that their parenting wasnt good at all until I grew up and got depressed XD

@@user-db8ij7vp2l This is true as a teenager myself my parents and everyone else does not understand me either, I prefer talking to my friends and avoiding people, although I do not want getting served, I still do try to live up to my family's expectations but lately I've been really down and it is just sad that my family never understood me at all and thought that I was just being a retard that spends a lot of time on the computer. This isn't true, I've been depressed and socially anxious, and my friends (which I talk to over the internet) were the ones that were supporting me and comforting me. I just feel safer and not judged around them, which i always feel around my family. I'm not rude at all to my family, I respect them, I follow their orders, try to live up to their demands, but everything has a limit to me you know? I believe one thing that parents should understand is that times are changing, people are changing, kids grow up, their needs and wants change, and everyone goes through a depressive phase, no matter the age or the situation they live in. This is my family's mistake, they think they done everything and anything for me and they think Im happy, they think I just try to disrespect them at all costs, they take away so much of my freedom just because they pay the bills which I do have to chip in a few times too with my own cash. But yeah, sometimes calm and open minded conversations helps, I personally, never had any calm conversations with my family without them getting mad, but I sure do hope that happens one day and I explain to them why I have been lost.

When I was a teenager I was rough. I even wrote a letter to my parents when I got a little older and apologized to them about some stuff. It would be a lot to tell you about the stuff I did as a teenager. I was stubborn and had to learn things the hard way. Boy oh boy but I learned and I’m such a different and better person today because of those teenage years. For parents who struggle with rough teens just keep loving them and hang on. They will get there!! My parents never gave up on me and how thankful I am. Now I’m grown and give back and serve and love and take care of others etc. I’m a Young Women’s youth leader in my church and I can relate and help these teens. Our teens today will be some good powerful people in the future those are just my thoughts. Now I’ve got 3 teen boys and 1 pre-teen girl 😳😊

I love that you say the most important thing is to love them no matter what and even if. It’s so very important and can be done without enabling and always giving in or never giving consequences and I think too many parents don’t know how to do that. I also think a lot parents automatically want respect but don’t respect their own kids as people so mutual respect is never established and that hurts the relationship. Some of your videos have gotten me through some rough phases with my two teens. I love your approach philosophy. Thank you

O my gosh! At 8:30 ish "All you care about" is getting your to do list done. (my to help THEM get done list so THEY can have everything for school, an event THEY wanted to do ) I hear that all the time. That I am cold, disingenuous, non compassionate, inconsiderate. If I am all business I am uncaring (daughter). My Goal is to have them(mostly be) no longer be depended on me.

you and your amazing wife keep me grounded. I'm so thankful as I am surely sure my teens are too. If they only knew that you're advice is what truly reminds me of my job/ role as a Mom is. Ultimately to always love them. My one teen is stage 1 and my other ( thankfully) is stage 2.Youre platforms are encouraging me to go onto Facebook, as I avoid all of social media like the plague. Would you consider a video on grandparents raising kids? My baby boomer mom is raising my niece and nephew like it's the 1970s. This just doesn't work.... I see her trying hard not to enable the behaviors her parenting created with my brother (who is 12 years younger then myself) but she is now raising 2 more with his disposition,, that were taken from a broken abusive situation. So she is combating the effects of growing up in that abusive environment as well as fighting all the new issues, like internet... the road blocks to parenting is different now, and she in her age finds it hard to see how raising kids has changed from seen and not heard do as your told silently.... Thanks in advance

What to do when drugs got around them, bad friends, issues with anger and addiction. My son is almost 17 and is having a hearing a day after his birthday. It's so scary, he made a bad choice, we don't know what's going to happen, he is in home arrested. I checked some therapist and counseling but it's so expensive or don't get back with you. I'm willing to make some sacrifices to get my son the help he needs for his anger management and addiction... so sad. Any advice that we can get? Sorry, also thank God I came across your videos. I'm getting educated, you are amazing!

Judith Schwahn, There will probably be some counseling or other help ordered for your son. Ask what services are available to you.

They are working for adulthood so you have to give a little if it is safe and do not scream or yell when you get upset ,use your calmness.

I'm so scared. I am truly grieving my teens rn changing. I feel like I've done it all wrong. They tell me they hate me and I just want to hold them so desperately. They don't want to be here with me. I have only ever tried to love them And do what's best but I did it wrong. It was NEVER my goal to make them disrespect me/rebel so bad. It truly hurts. We had some trauma in our family and they went from being very sheltered and controlled tbh to total freedom and I no longer had any control so to speak. I was also dealing with a narc relationship where I was discarded and then preyed upon by angry family members & my children were removed as a result of that however I'm going through thearapy as are they to reunite us all. I miss them so bad but we're all in thearapy I'm trying so hard. I realize i tried to "control" and shelter them and they have rebelled but i need a total reworking in my parenting strategy bad. It's breaking my heart. I feel so sorry for everything but I'm trying not to be so hurt that I get depressed and am trying to educate myself myself.

Love the videos on everything parenting, family, and self-help. Do you have videos on specific consequences for teens when they disrespect parents or don’t follow styles at home? Mine keeps making same mistakes over and over. She is 16 and the immature child you describe in one of the other videos. I am struggling to know what else I can do besides the usual taking away of the cell phone. Thank you.

Jmom Rodgers, you bring up a good point. Get help for yourself. You can't fill their tank if yours is empty. Include other people in their lives that will be there for them, aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends, etc.

You need to give more examples to illustrate each point in practice

How do you not care about outcomes ? If they’re disrespectful or lazy , shouldn’t we show them they need to try harder so they can grow up to be a decent person ? I understand my job is to love my child , but isn’t my job also raise him to be decent and to discipline him appropriately? Outcome in this case is “decent person “.
