Basically saying mental health today is so terrible because our brains haven’t evolved to match our modern environment. Because of that, mental illness has skyrocketed since industrialization. I used to work at a gym (a functional fitness gym for context) and we were encouraged not to wear shoes. you think that would be weird but I was almost always behind a desk and my boss was never there (i worked the 5am-10am shift so i barely saw her). The reason for it is just ankle strength, our footwear takes most of the brunt from everyday actions so walking bearfoot is actually better for your ankle strength, leading to less sprains, letting your natural foot adapt to being unsupported

Being able to really feel the earth below you is really special so I don't think this guy is weird for expressing that to others. That being said, after a few years of wearing shoes my callouses went away and it would hurt to walk around the forest barefoot. I honestly miss it all the time.
