Fitness Coach Nimai Delgado ON: How Failure Is A Part Of Success

Are you unsure about your career path? Are you trying to build financial stability? This conversation with fitness coach Nimai Delgado offers fresh insights and valuable life lessons.
Nimai is a vegan bodybuilder and fitness instructor widely recognized for his dedication to a plant-based lifestyle. Nimai did not shy away from being open and honest about his journey. His vegan lifestyle started at a very young age in relation to his spiritual beliefs and personal values. Veganism isn’t just about eating plants, there’s more to it and it is truly life changing.
The conversation turned deep and serious as we talked about how he felt the need to switch careers because he was unhappy, finding means to share a powerful message and reach more people, and how important it is not to rely on external validation and physical appearance.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
00:00 Intro
02:28 What is making you happy today?
03:19 The benefits of waking up early
06:20 What is life like when you’ve never eaten meat?
10:44 How do you source protein needs without animal protein?
14:21 Living in a spiritual community and your upbringing
19:59 What to do when you’re unhappy in your career
28:34 How do you find escape when you’re unhappy with what you’re doing?
31:59 How can you create systems and become financially stable?
35:35 Developing resilience and strength
37:34 The bodybuilding journey and how it started
41:10 How can you stop external validation from dictating how to live your life?
46:47 How do you coach someone and push them to live a healthier lifestyle
55:26 How do you find the motivation to show up for yourself?
59:40 Nimai on Final Five
Don’t miss this life changing conversation about personal growth, self discovery, and making better career decisions.
With Love and Gratitude,
Jay Shetty

Hi @JayShettyPodcast , I did! Back in 2014 I moved from São Paulo, Brasil to San Diego (CA) to attend a 3 months professional certificate in Business Marketing and by the end of that course I helped a student at my school to deal with her insecurities and anxiety issues, and that particular interaction made me take a different route and study Coaching. One professional certificate later and many workshops and seminars after, I was in heaven working to help people get to their goals. But as a foreigner student I couldn't stay longer in the US due to my visa, so I had to come back to my country. And in Brazil Coaching is a very underated profession, so I had to drop down the career I learned to love and embraced a complementary field. As a healer (and of course after studying a lot) I also had to make another choice - to focus on my financial stability, and once again I didn't succeed. So now I've been working with video editing and I'm applying all my knowledge and sensibility on my work. From assembling the footage, to color grading and sound design, I make sure all the elements align delivering the best content for the targeted audience. I'm not done yet on my journey of self-discovery and success. But now I know I'm on the right path and I can help people tell their stories due to my diverse background. I thank you and Nimai for the wonderful interview. I'm taking notes this time as you brought a lot of content that speaks directly to my heart And last but not least, I feel that's important that you both had an experience with the Vaishnava community and you keep sharing their wisdom through the work you do. Love in Action! Thank you so much 🙏🏼❤️ *I loved that part when you said that people are more valued when they stay longer doing the same things, when in fact they should be valued by how quick they leave something that doesn't align and it's not at service to anyone. That's precious! Pure gold 🌟✨❤️🙏🏼 I don't even have to say I'm going to listen to this episode over and over again, right? Thanks a bunch! 🙏🏼

I'm an artist and designer but, like you Jay, I'm very interested in behavioural sciences and psychology. Growing up with a parent with schizophrenia and battling with complex ptsd myself made me realize how important it is to help people who go through similar things, which is why I'm focusing on becoming an art therapist right now.

sushi used to be my favorite food - but then i started feeling like the reason why i like it so much is because of the saturated fat content! It was before i went vegan and before i even considered the ethics of killing so many sea animals for our taste habits - anyway long story short it's been almost 5 years that I stopped eating all animals and i would never go back to eating animals again... fish are just as sentient as land animals with some sea animals like octopuses having poetic feelings and a sense of beauty (they actually make their own garden with items that they find beautiful - that was the inspiration for the beatles song "octopuses' garden" ) - and my number 1 reason for not eating animals will always be ethics, but I FEEL so much better not eating saturated fat laden flesh ~ !! Amazing! 😊 Best of luck to you on your journey - like Nimai says the STRONGEST animals in the world aren't carnivores. Lions and tigers actually go after the weak and feeble herbivores of the herd, not the strongest ones. Lions can't beat hippos for example. I've seen videos where lions get out of the way when hippos approach! 🤔

MY FAILURE IS THE BEST OPPORTUNITY FOR MY LIFE TO MORE GROW UP. Don't bring failure to be something that has no value, but bring failure to be one of the materials that we study through to get a better value from there. Failure brings out the one who can open my mind to what I face in my own process, Failure caused problems in my head but did not break my mind to give up, failure led me to become someone who knows what I am going to do for tomorrow. Failure brought me to know that what I did was something that had a good impact on me. The heart of failure I weep does not mean I give up but from the cry I learnt that weep also brought myself to walk near what I was doing...

Omnivores often feel shamed for eating animals by plant-based folks and plant-based folks feel shame for not eating animals, particularly men (a senseless taboo imho). It’s a choice to feel shame or not - largely societal and cultural pressures. So this is how a conversation on reducing *all* suffering is had - logically, transparently, and calmly. Well done, gentlemen - more of this, please.

I really like the "ESM" acronym Jay came up with. It's a methodology that keeps people from being on the fence about what they want to pursue in their lives. It keeps you from following the customs and ideas that people can put on you for your life that are deemed "realistic". It also keeps you from being so in the "woo" (about what your passionate for) that you don't set up a plan/strategy that allows you to do it for the rest of your life and possibly provide for a family if you have one.

I grow up in a Hare Krishna community outside temple, I also felt I didn’t fit in anywhere, cause he where not explained how to cope with both worlds. And it felt like living two different life’s. But now with help of social media and the internet I feel that has changed… integrating everything into one you makes a better life
