Fishing What's Left Of Our Draining Lake.... These Fish Are TRAPPED!

Today I am out trying to find whatever water is left to fish in our draining lake! The original creek beds are all that remain on this part of the lake so we are hoping to find some big ones trapped and hungry in there! Follow along to see everything I'm able to haul onto shore! Thanks so much for watching and we will see you on the next one!

    The good thing about not having water around the dock is u can make any necessary repairs to it, 5 years gets u plenty of time to get things done slowly.

    I still don't get why they didn't dredge the lake instead of draining it. Dredging would have been cheaper and way less loss of all the wildlife no matter which kind there is. From the birds to the turtles. Dredging is done to actually make lakes, even shipping channel whether it be fresh or saltwater. After all they don't drain the Ocean when they're working on shipping channels.

    The EPA won't let them dredge this particular lake again. Parts of the lake are actually right above the area sewer system. They started dredging back in the 90s and ended up dumping a lot of raw sewage into the lake. They have no maps of the sewer system and the EPA won't allow dredging until they can drain the lake and get locates done for the sewer system and utilities.

  • @JimWisniewski-xj8ds

    @JimWisniewski-xj8ds

    @joemattox7525 How did they get raw sewage from the lake bed? That's very strange that they put the sediment back into the lake. They should be pumping the sediment out and hauling off to a dry land dump site or building a bank and/or berms from the sediment/sand/or dirt removed. Do you know who did that dredging back then? Sounds like they didn't know what they were doing.

    I suspect their plan is to make the lake usable for pleasure boaters, sadly. After it sits dry for a year or three I think they’ll do some excavation.

    @@JimWisniewski-xj8ds I honestly don't know who did the dredging. They have tunnels and pipes running underneath the lake. After the original dredging was done, the lake water level was low. I don't know a ton of the details behind it. Like I said earlier, I only had time to skim the newspaper article because my mom was getting off of work. I was only like 12 or 13 at the time all this happened. I just remember that there was an investigation into the local government because of how the sewer system was designed and "lost" records and maps. I moved away shortly after and couldn't really keep up with what was going on after the move. We didn't exactly have internet in the palm of our hands back then lol. My parents were divorced and our meeting spot for when i would visit my mom was at this lake. My dad would get us there early so we could fish while we waited for my mom to get there.

    Great video, I lived in south Arkansas the first 32 years of my life, only got to fish Lake Conway once, always loved the lake, so beautiful, so sad to see what they are doing to the lake. There are so many lakes in Arkansas to go pleasure boating, keep your head up and dont let it get you down. Live in Tennessee now, just got home from a sauger fishing trip on the upper Cumberland at Wartrace Tenn. I own a place on Reelfoot Lake in west Tennessee, if you are ever interested in fishing there. Just let me know.

    It's so nice to see Palarm Creek for the first time in almost 80 years, since the dam was built and the creek drown beneath its own impounded waters. Soon, the former lakebed will start to green up and trees will grow along the riparian zone of the creek. The reversion from an impounded, artificial reservoir to natural creek is a site to behold that few get to see. After a few years, it won't even look like there ever was a reservoir as Nature takes over. The dam still blocks fish passage due to the headwalls of the old dam. After a few years and seeing the return of this natural waterway, no conservationist with an understanding of sustainability and water quality issues will want to see this are re-dammed. The outmoded concept of damming our natural waterways is something right out of a Wes Anderson film.
