    I love the pocket combo, my gf pulled up a two pounder bank fishing while I was skunked. The extremely low gear ratio helps with not over working baits and it catches a lot while floating down the river in a tube. If my 5’6” ultra light is too cumbersome for a brush pile near the bank, I can sneak with it and get a line in the water I otherwise wouldn’t have. I put better line on it but it really shines with 2 lb so I went back. On lunch break I can go with a Fanny pack or a single tackle box and have a good time. Plus the hiker stop and ask, “is that it? That’s the whole pole?” Yup, Walmart $20 and alot of fun.

    All the walmart gear has to be taken with a grain of salt. If you take the lures to lakes that are not heavily pressured they will work. You take them to your local park pond, every fish has seen them 100 times in a month. I use to buy a lot of inexpensive gear at walmart that I give to kids for fishing clinics. I always have to think if the gear will help the kids want to fish more or discourage them. I started spending a little more money now for some of the more intermediate lures. Not much can beat the Zebco Slingshot combo for the price.

    I have that Pfluger on a cheap 2 dollar pole I got at a garage sale. Some old 60s solid fiberglass pole that is somehow whippy and stiff. Just keep it as a trunk reel in case I drive past somewhere cool. Never had an issue. That baby spin caster would be fun for tiny bluegill. The lures... i can see them all working in certain instances.

  • @Triffleman7
    @Triffleman74 ай бұрын

    The spinner at 11:19 is one that I actually buy a bit and rate kinda nicely. It's not the best thing, that fluff will wear off quick, but on my ultralight rig I managed to catch some nice sized fish off it. The spinner will get caught sometimes on that front bar, but once you get it free and make sure it goes up and down the shaft freely it should spin relatively alright. Not a panther martin, but that bluegill will slam the piss out of it sometimes.

    I use ozark trails ultra light combo for river fishing for hybrids and have had no issue with them at all. I also used the $1 dollar buzz baits and spinners since I was a kid, now the rubber bands they use for the skirt aren’t the best but just replace the band and you’re good to go. I also have the same rod that you got and the only time it snapped was when I caught a 20lb drum on it while river fishing. literally most of my equipment is what you just bought and haven’t had any real bad experiences with them.

    I remember when those xcursion rods were around $14. They used to be gray. My buddy and I always kept a couple in the boat. They had decent sensitivity and balance for the price but the guides kind of sucked. Most people snap rods because they don't know how to use them properly. But for $14 we would have just bought another.

    usually those tiny rods like that are for ice fishing where you only drop straight down though you could also use them at like a dock in a marina where the bluegills are stacked and just drop straight down on em. i bought one of those cheap reels there before they do work but probably only for like a few months of hardcore fishing. but it will catch fish. even some of the better reels only last so long also. its best to learn how to keep them maintained anyways and to learn on cheap stuff is better. so then when you do get nicer reels you can always keep them maintained once they start acting up.

    The buzzbaits were trash, hardly stayed afloat at all, even when reeling. The spinner is pretty good, caught a lot of trout on it.

    Great to see you trying out the cheaper stuff just to show what you get. So much of Walmart tackle is stuff you only buy once and avoid any more in the future.

    I bought a Pinnacle bait caster at Walmart about 10ish plus years ago for $50 ish used it on a frog rod. Now have it on a Googan black muscle rod. Cleaned,oiled and greased once never a problem works like the day I purchased it 🤙🤙🤙🤙

    I the Ozark in-line spinners, 50% of the time they work I always test them at home before so I can take the bad ones back. The ready2fish brand ones work well and are $1. Few cent more

    Just want to say thanks for the great content. Keep it up. But I also have a question. Have you got a new drone? As your drone footage looks so much clearer than before. If so, what is it? As the footage quality is incredible.

    I would suggest having the passenger hold the buzzbait out of the truck window on the way back home to kinda wear the hole in the "buzz" part of the bait

    So that buzz bait is bad, but it can be modified. I rebend it so that the prop is facing the right direction and usually rip off that skirt. I use them in my local canal system that has ALOT of stuff to get snagged on. I use these cheap ones there and throw them in the nastiest places I can find. If I lose it, no big deal

    I got that same bait casting combo, and all I had to do was get some new line for it. 14 pound mono works really well. That buzzbait does suck though, the skirt flew off when I casted once, and the hookups with it were not good for me.
