    Every now and then, a channel comes along that legitimizes, what's otherwise a standard-less, platform for stupid, entitled, hypocrites, who happen to have an internet connection, and something to say that's worth hearing. This guys absolutely get's it. I'm willing to bet that he's doing well in whatever else he does in life. Excellent communication skills, excellent teaching skills, excellent tech skills (VERY well filmed), and a genuine passion to help people. Good for you, young man...don't ever lose those qualities. Your videos are an absolute joy to watch.

    I was shown the Palomar knot (on monofilament) about 30 years ago, I was sceptical as I always used the blood knot for tying hooks and swivels. I did many, many tests with a blood knot one end of some line, and a Palomar knot at the other. The blood knot ALWAYS failed first, and I've used the Palomar ever since. I didn't realise it could be used with braid, you've made my day! Thank you.

    So it was basically one half of the blood knot we use to join lines together?

    Im 66 and I've been stymied by braid. Until I stumbled upon your excellent videos. I'm using a zebco 33 anniversery edition just because its hard. Only works with mono though so I'm getting a rod and reel that handles braid. I fish in the ocean wit a lot heavier gear and I might convert those poles to braid too. Subscribed.

    I like the uni knot best. For many years I have been using a "hangman's" noose knot with much success. It is similar to the Uni. 1.) Thread the eye of the hook or swivel and draw through your line several inches. 2.) Twist the line on itself several times. This creates a loop. 3.) Thread the loop with the extra line. 4.) Pull the line firmly until you have a knot similar to the uni knot. 5.) Pull on the main line until the knot is drawn to the head (top of the eye/swivel). Cinch the knot and there you go!

    The Palomar knot is really easy and fast when you're used to it. On braid since it can be a little slick, do a 'double over hand knot' ..loop it twice then before you loop over the hook or swivle. Add spit so it slides better.

    I took your advice and tied the Unit Knot as described. Went out yesterday and hooked a monster, then the knot slipped and fish lost. I could tell the knot had slipped by the look of it at the end. Do not tie this knot with 3-4 loops. Other videos say to loop it 6 and even 7 times. Spent a lot of time heaving and rolling around as i re-rigged our setups, then i hurled my breakfast to the surface fish. Only nibbles after that, came home empty handed. I was dirty.

    Doubling the line through at the beginning ensures that it won't slip. You don't do that with mono or fluro. But hey you don't have to use it. I've caught 50lb amberjack with that knot.

  • @markjosephfisher
    @markjosephfisher4 жыл бұрын

    Your uni knot is incorrect. For floro and mono you do 5 wraps and with braid you double the wraps at 10. If you do braid with only 2-3 wraps, you risk the knot slipping.

  • @ek5419

    The knot you demonstrated was not strictly speaking a Uni knot. It was a Uni knot with two turns through the eye of the hook which Is similar to the trilene knot.

  • @gregkosinski2303

    @gregkosinski2303

    Жыл бұрын

    It wasn’t THE classic uni because he doubled through the eyelet, but it is a uni knot. While the trilene knot doubles through the hook, the tag end will point toward the hook whereas it points away on the uni. The othe big difference is the wraps on the uni knot go around two strands, whereas on the trilene knot, it’s only one

  • @markjosephfisher
    @markjosephfisher4 жыл бұрын

    Also you tightened the overhand on the palomar knot before looping the hook through and it should not be snugged up until winching all of it down together. You placed way too much strain on the line and compromised its integrity.

    Your knot tying skills leave a lot to be desired as you tied both incorrectly. The second knot you tied is not a Uni. but the Fish-N-Fool knot. It is the best braid knot there is by a long ways and far superior to the Palomar knot in all line types.
