Hi. I will be fishing off beaches of Cabo Rojo. Should I use live bait or lures my airbnb is right next to playa combate. Any tips greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey there, thanks for watching! Playa Combate is a great spot for shore fishing and you also got several piers down there as well. In terms of bait, it really depends on what you're targeting. You've got a variety of Snapper species, Jacks, Tarpon, etc. Both live bait and lures can be effective. For live bait, you can go with shrimp, small fish such as mullet, or even pieces of cut bait. In terms of a lure, you wanna look for one that best mimics the types of baitfish or prey species that are commonly found in that region. For example, if you're going after Tarpon, try out some topwater lures or even swimbaits or jigs. We also recommend checking out some of the local guides down there that can provide all the gear and bait for you and put you on fish: fishingbooker.com/destinations/location/pr/cabo-rojo. Let us know if you have any other questions. Tight lines!

Really struggling to find out how to buy a license online for a week in March. I see that many guided trips will take care of that for you, but we will be mostly doing DIY shore stuff.

Hey Travis, thanks for watching! In order to buy a fishing license in Puerto Rico, you'll have to head to one of the regional offices for the Department of Environment & Natural Resources. It looks like fishing licenses aren't sold online in PR or even at any bait & tackle stores, so you might have to find a DENR office close to where you plan on staying. We hope this helps and let us know if you need any other information. Tight lines!

Hi John, thanks for watching! The type of lure or bait, as well as the preferred method of fishing, will vary depending on your location, target species, and preference. Since you're fishing from Aguada Beach, you'll most likely be going after inshore fish like Snook, Tarpon, and Bonefish. These fish are pretty picky eaters, so consider using live bait such as shrimp, crabs, and minnows. If you plan on venturing out and hitting the reefs or any other structures, soft plastics and shrimp imitations are great for targeting various types of Snapper and Grouper. It really all depends. Hope this helped and let us know if you need any other info. Tight lines 🎣

Hi and thanks for watching! According to the NOAA, you don't need a license to fish in federal waters (which begin 3 nautical miles out from the island), however, you still need a license to fish in local waters (within that 3-mile limit). The easiest thing would be to hop on a fishing charter, as your license is automatically included in the trip. Just head to fishingbooker.com or download the app to take a look at charters in the area and book your trip. Otherwise, for more info on fishing licenses and other rules and regulations, we recommend checking out the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA) main website as laws can change from time to time. Let us know if you need any other help and good luck!

Hi Ramon, thanks for watching. You cannot bring freshly packaged fish that you caught back to the mainland, if that's what you are asking. Only processed, prepared or cooked foods are allowed back. That being said, you can always throw the fish on the grill and prepare yourself a meal for the flight back 😊. Otherwise, please check with the TSA before travelling and let us know if you have any other questions. Tight lines! 🎣
