Brings back memories. If it's 3 ft and choppy, I'm vomiting! Lol

At least you didn’t have to jig the feathers with the roll. Tight lines

lovely fresh mackeral now thats a proper eating fish
great vid chap, i like your style
I've never understood why whiting are rejected so much. In my fishing trips with mates I was the only one who saw whiting as a positive catch. I would go home with theirs as well as mine. Seriously tasty when cooked carefully. Better than cod in many ways in my opinion. I now live inland, and my only source of this super fish is if it appears on the slab of my local Morrisons. If so, I binge buy! Fucked for fishing now, but I really enjoy these videos!!

Hi Paul, cheers, glad you enjoyed the vid
You must get better prices than us for whiting. We were putting 5-6 stone back over the side every trip as they are worthless here.
That mistake with the compass could have been deadly…

It's a very easy one to make too ! Have to watch out for any metal that affects them. Sounds obvious, but it caught me out that time
Mackerel........as Tina Turner put it, they are simply the best.
I'll grab my rod, won't be long, only in Truro. 👍
Would have thought the mackerel would be more valuable than the whiting? Ours never appeared till September --- then they were gone!

Mackerel are for sure, however like you, we've had a hard time with them this summer.
Braided line is all I use now.

A cultural barrier. You said 15kg required? Who required? Or just a target amount? Thanks

One of my customers asked me for 15kg, I was out to catch them, cheers
So I'm guessing you don't own a sea anchor? Even a 3-footer off the bow would have made that drift a lot more comfortable.

@@franciswoods1831 A sea anchor is a canvas "parachute" tied off to a bow cleat or a stern cleat. It's used in heavier seas to slow things down.

Hi D, many thanks, yes we can sell the fish because the boat is a licensed fishing vessel. Cheers
How are you getting on with prices for line caught fish? Just getting back fishing after a 20 yr break, MCA survey in the new year and hopefully out late feb-early march.

@@F20_forager it's only a little open boat, the safely equipment required can pretty much fit in a big bag. Do you sell privately or on the market, just wondering if line caught gets a premium on the market or do you have to seek out your own buyers. I was trawling in the past and only ever put it on the market.
@F20_forager

Merry Christmas btw :) I found the line catch fish is a worth a premium but it seems best to seek out end user buyers because the market prices are really hit and miss. It honestly varies so much. I've been out and not even covered the fuel. Avoid some of the massive dealers, as they tend to give a very poor price in my opinion. I think they just need volume and don't care about how the fish was caught. The quantity of line caught fish, is so low but so fresh and in great condition, with a sustainable style, it has to be worth more per kg than trawled ? Finding buyer who appreciate this is key.
do you get a good price for whiteing
