Fishing & Camping on Main Beach, North Stradbroke Island, August 2022

We spent the weekend camping along main beach on Straddie. This trip we used camp 10 again. I hope you enjoy it!

I swear I could smell that smoked mackerel when you popped the lid mate! Big tides by the looks in the first part of the vid. Thanks for bringing me along again mate! Danny, the aussie in Ohio!

Cheers Danny! Yeah, the big tides didn't do us any favors. It's been a while since I've seen the beach that short, without the camp track's we'd have been hydrating around camp most of the day 🍻

Howdy - really enjoying the footage. I’m visiting Straddie for the first time soon, looks like a surf caster is essential? I’ve got a combo travel rod set that covers softbaitng, jigging top water etc but should I invest in a surf caster? Also, do you mind sharing your technique for grabbing those baitworms. Lastly, are those pipi’s edible? They look too good to be using for bait!

Hi Olan, it really comes down to your preferred style of fishing and what species you would like to target. You can easily chase bream, whiting, dart and flathead in the surf with a reasonably short rod. A lot of the time they are feeding quite close in the wash, people often make the mistake of casting over fish. However if the fish are feeding further out then you'd need a longer rod for the distance. If you want to chase tailor then you'll want to invest in a longer rod. In your comment you mention softbaiting and jigging so I guess you like lures. Something around 10 to 12 feet long and capable of casting 40 to 65g lures is my preferred rod. The tailor run will be slowing down this time of year (october) but the fish will be getting bigger. I'll have to do a video on how I catch worms as its hard to explain, itd take an essay lol. Yes, you can eat the pippies. They are ok but I prefer fish. Make sure you purge them of sand first though or it makes for a crunchy meal. Enjoy Straddie!

Sorry Sandra, they've only recently renamed them so I'm not sure. It could be track J but I honestly don't know.
