Finally well enough to go fishing again, tried out my new bait mix and the carp went nuts for it, and seemed to lose all fear as they flocked around me. Even the worst fisherman (which I am) could catch a carp in these circumstances... right?
Things went a little wrong as I realised I left the carp landing gear in the car (was only expecting to catch tiddlers), and injured my hand landing the carp so I had to be extra careful because the safety of the fish is paramount. I managed to safely land the fish and extract the hook, and get him back in the water before seeing to my own needs. It was far from an ideal landing so I have learned lessons for next time about being prepared for a large fish. This was my first ever carp, and weighed in at 2.4kg (5.3lbs), caught on a white fake micro corn dipped in the baitmix, size 16 hook, 6lb mono.
