Fishing A New Pond: Where To Start
Спорт
Come along as Tim explores a new pond! Fishing new water is always a gamble but Tim has a simple method of finding fish quickly. Listen closely as he approaches the water and gives tips on the productive parts of any pond, while catching a few fish.
When approaching a new body of water Tim likes to start off in search of a giant. After that, he focuses on topwater, then drops down to baits that will contact the bottom. Once on bottom he uses the baits to gain an understanding of the underwater contours. In doing so he's able to gauge the size of the fish in the pond, the overall depth, and where fish are positioned, very quickly.
Below you'll find links to the baits he had tied on for this pond adventure. We've included the exact colors, rigging components, and some of the rod and reel combos he was using. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Not gonna lie, watching you miss fish like that makes me feel better - if it happens to you too then I'm not just a buffoon of a fisherman. Nice to see another pond video, thanks for making anglers out of fisherman.

As mainly a bank/pond bass fisherman these kind of videos give a lot more useful information to me personally than boat videos or how to find the color line, etc. this shows how real it gets

@@A1K3NFISHING I learned he is a bank pounder that wades into the pond to get one of his tiny catches. Pee poor IMO.
I loved this video because it shows how frustrating my trips are in the summer. I seem to miss the hookset on more fish than I catch or just lose the big one of the day.
@MrCobb-rq8iv

And why is he missing so many hooksets? Seems to be fishing with the off hand if he is right handed; and he has the wrong reel on the pole. It all adds up. You are either right handed or left handed. Buy the correct equipment and fish accordingly. :And the hooks are dull! Fishing Pliers?
Thanks for coming out! You'll have to come back, because there's some monsters in there just waiting to be hooked.
more of this please
I have been fishing a pond all summer due to the lack of rain and water levels bank fishing just ain't happening out at the lake we have and I don't have a boat so pond it has been. The other day I just wanted out of the house and let me tell you I called them with a spinner bait rigged with a swim bait and a smaller under spinner with smaller swim bait both white grey in color!! It was awesome! As the sun went down I switched to a deep dive crank bait and got it out to the deeper part of the pond and got like 4 more before I called it a night!! 9 fish all together when I hadn't caught any the last 3 to 4 weeks! But I have y'all to thank for that and one of your latest videos on the transition of august and the bait to use!!! Thank you!
love it when you guys bank fish since that is what I mostly do, thanks for the tips!
Nothing like pond fishing from the bank from time to time
This is my kind of fishing; all I have are little playa lakes and those fish are pressured and picky. Love the top water action, giving this a real go tonight! Great video man!
Love pond videos we all started there
Great job showing that you also face the same challenges we all do when pond fishing. I have used all these lures but with water temperatures of 88.5-90 degrees, the fishing has been very slow for me in South Florida in August. I feel like I have tried everything and almost all times of the day (need to get up early one day to catch the sunrise and try when water drops a few degrees). For the first time in a while, it has been three days since I last caught anything and bites have been very faint only on senkos but without bass really taking the bait so to speak. My pond has two deep pits of 53’ and 45’ but the bass don’t appear to be there. I have checked on a fish finder and see them in 15-20 feet but they are not hitting anything right now, not even senkos except for a slight tap now and then.

Absolutely love throwing topwater parallel to the bank like that; it's a productive technique that's also a lot of fun. Loving the bank-fishing videos. I'd venture the guess that a very high percentage of your audience does most of their fishing from shore; thanks so much for giving us some high-quality instructional content. Can't wait for the next one! Would love to see a Buyer's Guide aimed at bank anglers sometime down the road. Thanks, Tim!
hey tim i really liked this quick bank fishing video it was cool coming from a bass expert thanks
Awesome fishing. Make me wanna go hit up the local Pond
Fluke is one of my favorite banks fishing lures. Thanks as always Tim
Enjoy seeing you figure out a spot. Especially fishing from the bank!
Noticed those Cali clips, they are a game changer. I got them to hold my drop shot weight but the hook keeper on these are incredible. I’ve never had a bait swing away when putting it up.
So awesome to see this vid as most of my fishing is in ponds currently. I have a few local ponds with decent sized fish here in Florida but when makes it tricky is the general lack of features in them.
What a fun day,thank you Tim 👏👏
My kind of fishing, loved it!
Great pond fishing video. 👍 Most of my fishing the last few years has been small waters. I haven't looked at a graph in 7 or so years even when in the aaluminum boat, but I have a wealth of good fish pictures. Really appreciate the simple style of fishing.
Hey you guys are reading my comments this is why I love you guys. I just asked two weeks ago for a pond video or challenge video

On the ol hodge podge, nailed it...
Done this with little beaver ponds we find in the woods near streams on some hunting property my buddy has. Stand right on or near the dam, and take the kayaks in if that doesn’t work. It’s only about 6 foot deep at the dam, but we’ve pulled a few solid 3-4 pounders out of there. Bunch of pickerel too that I’ve gotten to follow and swipe at an S-waver, but they’re too crafty to get hooked.
Looks awesome
It's good you survived the nuclear explosion @3:30.
I’ve been getting my ass kicked all summer at my local ponds. The water levels here in Texas have dropped so much that the fish just aren’t where they usually are. And the spots where they are are inaccessible from the bank lol

Love the pond fishing videos and Tim going back to his “roots”.
After watching this video im starting to think i don’t miss that many fish afterall.
You guys ever come back through indiana again I know a 8 acre pond that was a old paylake from 1940ish through 1980ish that has monster bass and monster crappie (for indiana) ...
Missed em on the frog, feel like I'm watching a viDebo
There is only one bait I didn’t see you throw and I throw it in every pond and that my friend is the wacky rig I can’t tell you how many fish I’ve caught on that bait and a fluke two amazing pond baits
Yes, keep doing the pond videos!
The Smokin Shad super fluke doesn’t get it done for me, but the silver flash is the go to color for me. What’s odd is that they are a similar color.
Hey Tim I know how you like smally fishing. I ran across some new baits on face book. well new to me, you ever hear of Rabid Baits? Unique soft plastics. I ordered some jerk baits to try out. It's called Rab Shad and has a Fox furry tail. All their baits incorporate the fur. I have never seen anything like them. You probably have heard of them been in the business and all. But if you haven't well take a look.
Tim were you wearing the green TB glasses?
I can't believe our go to pond set ups are the exact same. I throw a headbanger, plopper, popper, fluke, frog, shakey, swimbait. Were you fluking on top? I feel bad for you guys and that treeline.
Bruh ! For your next pond video maybe you should ask Bill Dance if you can fish in his,,nutting but 9 pounders all day long 😂
Champs 🏆
First cast should’ve been a frog at the Tuleys quiet and subtle and not blown up his area

Bingo. Few know. This is real weak for an olde cowboy that grew up on ponds.
What would be your replacement rod for the 966 ? I've been looking for one for the last year or so and availability is not so good .
what should I use .All my ponds have fountains in them.
This question may or may not be covered in this video, I just had a couple general questions dealing with bass fishing and thought I'd ask it/some of them on this particular video. Whether it gets answered or not will remain to be seen. If I'm using a topwater bait like a frog or a popper or some kind of plopper, does it matter what kind of fishing line I'm using? I know that mono floats, and I believe braid does as well (never use braid hence the "believe" term), and fluorocarbon sinks. After hearing much on the positives of using fluorocarbon, I decided to switch some of my reels over to it. Does it matter if my line sinks if I've got a lure that I want to float? I would assume that the line would not be heavy enough to pull the lure down, however, like fishing in general, as many stipulations necessary as possible seem to work a lot better than just "winging it."

Simple...topwaters with treble hooks...monofilament...12-17lb. for Topwaters under 1 oz...1-3 oz topwaters with treble hooks...20lb. Monofilament....Frogs- 30-65lb. Braid, 30 for spinning, 40-65 for baitcasting...another option for baitcasting is 20-25 lb. Monofilament, if u don't like braid....Braid is ideal in vegetation types of cover...I prefer 20-25 lb. Mono for frogs in woody types of cover, stumps, logs, brush, docks, rocks with drag tightened down. braid will work, but will fray quicker in harder types of cover
This is about 5 years overdue! LOL
I found a little pound in Long Island recently that has fish but I think It was too hot and the bite was off.
My oldest kid is driving me nuts to get baits called googan, have you guys tried them and are they any good. To me the hard baits look cheaply made and painted but they carry a premium price ( for massed produced baits) I trust your judgment and opinions on these things and can't find a video of yall ever talking about them, that scares me.
Believe it or not I have no ponds in my area. Only 2 lakes, miss pond fishing.
