A had a turtle... she stunk... I called her stinky... but she got to big... we had to place her in a pond that my 27 year old veterinarian sister was house sitting at... she was at TURBO SPEED when she ran... I'm not 100% positive but I am pretty sure you caught a Florida Softshell. It can breath both underwater (gas exchange happens through the skin) and out of water. They are typically found in slow moving to still water habitats. They are mostly carnivorous prefering fish and crustaceans (larger turtles have been known to eat water fowl too). They can get rather large (females in particular) and can live 25+ years. They do pretty well in captivity assuming they have plenty of room. They also do not do well with other turtles and can be somewhat aggressive. Of course I'm sure all this can be found on the internet. I just love animals and have been really into reptiles lately.

Nice Video dude! That’s a very beautiful eastern soft shell, they are an abundance here in South Georgia, they grow fairly large I’ve seen one about the size of a semi truck tire next to our boat whilst fishing the Chattahoochee, they have extremely long necks and can propel them out at very quick speeds, so please be careful handling the little dude and putting him near your face wouldn’t want to lose a nose lol, and if you ever do put him in your fish ponds be aware that their main diet is fish and may harm or kill your other aquatic friends, but anyways, very neat idea for a trap, may give it a try myself lol keep up the good work!
