That turtle was a Red-eared Slider. They're very common in ponds, lakes, and rivers. And the second turtle you caught was most likely a snapping turtle.

It’s called a common snapper, they can reach 35lb and alligator snappers can reach 220lb or bigger,

Actually, red-eared sliders(among others) have different patterns and colorations. I had 4 from the same clutch, and they all looked totally different. And it changes as they go through growth stages. One of the oldest individuals I know, is almost unrecognizable from what they usually look like in adulthood. That particular one had so much personality that even the big guard dogs that it shared its house with, did not mess with him. One of the most badass characters I’ve known since childhood.

Cameraman: put the turtle in the water now. RawFam Daddy: hold on! Me: do what Cameraman said!

When I do this type rescue/search, I transfer the contents of the net to a bucket of water and THEN gently go through and find the creatures so they aren't traumatized so badly. I love what you're doing, but you are very rough and keep them out of the water too long for my taste. Also, I would emphasize that you should be gentle and calm with the creatures and not flail your hands around while holding them. But...do keep up your missions.

Hey Raww, I'm a fisherman from the UK and I usually do coarse fishing with maggots (occasionally sweet corn!) and it works very well. I've caught several carp and tench, plenty of perch and the occasional salmon. I'm just here to suggest using some small vegetable like a pea or what I used, sweetcorn, as bait!
