I ' visited' Lands' End briefly a few years ago with the family. Thought it was outrageous to have to pay to visit somewhere before I'd even got to park! ..turned around Immediately and left...I used to love Padstow as a child, we went there every summer. Like all these charming little coastal towns, they get ruined by mass tourism and capitalists who rip everyone off..as you rightly said , shameful.

Blaming Capitalists for high prices??? that's rich, in a socialist country where everything is taxed to high hell so the government can give everything away for "free". Moving the burden of paying from those who use the services to everyone who pays taxes. Glad I don't live there!!

Both the times I went there i hated it, the second time I did it 9am until 11 pm with a 45min break.the staff get treated like crap and genuinely don't care.

I'm a trained chef and have worked an quite a few 5 star resorts here in the USA. May be I should not say this, but most of these celebrity chef restaurants are cook out of a bag. Meaning that things like the mix for the fish is pre made and comes out of a bag. Same with all the sauces probably the mushy peas as well. They are just made to the chef recipe. They do this for consistency. I 100% agree with you. Always go to the mom and pops restaurants. They are less likely to use out of the bag food stuff as the pre made can be quite costly. I never go to any of these types of restaurants or even chain as they cook from bags as well. I have even worked at some 5 start resorts that had classically trained chefs like myself cooking out of bags. Hell I worked at one where we used Stouffer's frozen Lasagna's for wedding buffets @ $50 usd per plate. So yeah don't fall for the big fancy names. You rarely get you moneys worth. And no I do not cook anymore the industry is a mess right now.

Around Easter 1974 I made a trip from Dover all along the English south coast with my parents. The drabness of it all still haunts me. We once made a stop at something called "Little Chef", an absolute horrific experience. What a joy it was when we finally got back on to the European continent. Seems that not an awful lot has changed after all those years, except for having to consume a Rick Stein cuisine in the vicinity of some Russian gulag building in the middle of a parking area.

Went to Padstein some years ago and had a look at Rick's place. The prices were astronomical. If you wanted to mug yourself even more, there was a display of purchasable souvenirs, cooking equipment and what I can only describe as bric-a-brac for equally outrageous prices. We got delicious fish and chips from a modest chip shop a stone's throw away for about a quarter of the cost. It was a shame, because I was a bit of a foodie in those days and had always liked Rick Stein's TV shows.

Me and my wife have really enjoyed this mini-series, watching each instalment. Very insightful, real-world experiences of an EV. Totally agree with your conclusions. We’ve all been taken for a ride (excuse the pun). One issue not addressed is the lack of generating capacity in the UK, which only has around 5% spare at peak times. How will we generate enough electricity to charge millions of addition cars, even if we had the infrastructure. Onwards…

What's more folks were queing for 45 minutes for a table. Hysterical! So back to Harbour lights or Sanders or Cousin Jack's, less cost, less grease and much nicer. Love Cornwall

I’ve always enjoyed Steins fish and chips. But I’ll agree with your criticism. It is very expensive and the service is not exactly friendly, I’ve found. You should’ve taken a short walk into Padstow itself and eaten it by the docks. That’s what we always do after we’ve done the camel trail bike ride. I can’t believe the sachets of vinegar. That’s a deal breaker for me. It’s part of the fish and chips ritual to have salt and vinegar shaken on just before it’s wrapped up in paper. No more Steins for me if that’s what they’re now doing. Appalling. Another entertaining vlog Lee, great stuff.

Just happened on this video and as my husband and I will be staying at the Land's End Hotel for a few days next month, and are very excited to do so. But not so much for the hotel, but also for the location. It's a gorgeous location but there are tons of things to do within a very close range. We'll hit the outdoor theatre to the east, small villages to the west up to St Ives. There's lots of standing stones and Penzance is not far. We'll be coming from Portsouth, where my great grandfather was born. It will be such fun! I'll let you know if we find issue within the Land's End Hotel, other than the cost. It's our 50th anniversary trip so we're splurging a bit. Haven't been to the UK in 15 years so am very happy to go back!

It is pretty bad when a famous celebrity chef puts out such bad quality food so over priced it's insulting to customers. If you're a celebrity chef charging a premium price for a common dish in England then it should be amazingly good. Chris must not care about his customers or reputation. As a businessman of 30 years plus, I'd never sell a shoddy product or provide a shoddy service to my customers that I value. You do your very best to meet and exceed customers expectations. No wonder his price is so high. Customers won't come back and he's relying on his name brand and tourist trade which is shameful really especially for a professional chef.

The less said about the dribble of curry sauce the better, for a thimble I don’t think it’s unreasonable for you to expect a full pot. Chips cooked in beef dripping should be delicious so to see you not even find them good is pretty shocking. Thanks for taking one for the team, shame you had to though pal. Also instead of keep talking about the poor ev infrastructure why not mention all the other things like. Lithium mines increase weight for vans. Depletion of council funds having to replace good vehicles with electric. Chinese power stations producing battery's. Chinese leaving thousands of new EVs outside on acres of land to rot. The list goes on and on. Every part of EV production is a scam that's doing more damage than any combustion engine.

Back in the days before health and safety became azi bullies, fish and chips came in newspaper. What struck me as I watched you unpack your F&C, was the amount of packaging. All of that cardboard waste will end up in landfill. Going back to my first comment, fish and chips were a recycling product using yesterdays newspapers and a small piece of greasproof paper. Rick Stein in trying to be posh and putting sauces in tiny pots, is also trying to hide the miniscule amount of sauce you get and pay handsomely for.. Another reviewer rated Rick Stein fish and chips as very poor value for money. He complained the fush portion was tiny. More fish in a solitary fish fish finger ( my words, but you get the drift ). You have to remember that you are paying for that fancy packaging. On Oldham market you can get fish and chips for #4.95, cooked fresh in front of you without silly bits of parsley and a curry sauce to rip your tits off!!

The best fish & chip in England is the little shop over the swing bridge on the left hand side around the bend in Whitby North Yorkshire, they are absolutely delicious. It has won many awards for its food and is recommended by Jeremy Clarkson and James May, when they filmed an episode of Top Gear. Been to Whitby many times and always buy my food from there, I can recommend the fish cakes and the Scampi also. Wish I could remember the name of the shop, it's NOT the large chip shop in the centre of Whitby were the chef's wear the tall white hats. 👍🙂👍

I don't half laugh when I see the queues of muppets waiting to be shafted at his establishments. Two friends of mine got rinsed for £140 in his main seafood restaurant (just along from the toilets....) and ended up having a pasty to fill themselves up afterwards. Chips Ahoy for fish and chips, any of the three pasty shops opposite the Ship for oggies, the Shipwrights for Proper Job and the seafood stall outside the pub for crab sandwiches. Job done.

Hi Mate, That's frightening cost for a couple of chipped up potatoes and a very small fish. In reality that's all it is. I'm stuck for words really. Chips are just that! cut up potatoes that cost very little to buy. I am friends with an ex Chip Shop owner in Fife and he got out of it. He says the days of fish and chip shops are numbered. Apparently it's the cost of the fish to them that's killing it and that's why there's less chips and smaller fish at inflated prices. He wasn't making any real profit with the cost of heating the expensive oil in the fryer. I don't think it's the chippies fault all the time. Were losing our traditions very fast here in UK. It's all cheap crap processed Kebabs and McDonalds etc now. Really sad. Steve in Fife.

At 15:00 , is that UK Border Force carefully avoiding the Dover Strait? What is it with British people's desire to walk in the road, when there is a perfectly good pavement? Isn't that just typical at 39:40 , loads of broken glass and other small debris and two blokes with a house broom each to sweep it to the central reservation, from where, the glass will eventually end up back on the road! What's wrong with getting a road-sweeper in to clear it up and take it away in 5 minutes?

Great series Lee, and I completely agree with the rip-off fish and chips. And having to pay to stand near a signpost and take your own photo?! As if visitors buying souvenirs isn’t enough for them. The greed of these places puts you off.

The bonus clip at the end when you near had a heart attack at the sat nav,I'm in tears😂😂great video though,I would say the only thing with cars with big batteries, they take longer to charge obviously, I have a small battery so less waiting, but agree they are not suited for long journeys, unless you get a tesla with their charging infrastructure.

I have lived in Cornwall for 18years and have learnt that there are places only ment to rip off the tourists. My local chippy is awesome and tasty at a reasonable price. Also gives a loyalty card for a free dinner after 10 visits. If Rick did that it would cost you hundreds lol

Typical of any TV Chef who thinks they can charge a fortune for fish and chips, and as said he is never there.I would not go near any TV chef so that they can live a lifestyle that we the customers can never had.So sad they they charged you over £18 for a carry out.

dont agree, these mugs who follow and endorse tv chefs keep coming for more overpriced average grub and love a good shafting, they are the same airheads who shop at M and s and Waitrose. Jamie was seriously geared and the banks got shafted to the tune of 80 million as did his complete staff(1000 sacked) but he ripped his revenue out of the business in personal dividends(5 million) before he folded.........total wanker with no moral backbone and walked away leaving his suppliers high and dry too(20 million).

Curious if you will tell us the grand total cost for charging for the whole journey and the actual cost per mile. Are the costs the same for Gridserve vs. Ionity vs. the Porsche dealer? When you went to the Porsche dealer, was there any lines to use their chargers? Aren't there enough Porsche dealers throughout the country to just charge there, especially if they charge faster than any other charger? Once again, wonderful job!

Lee, Regarding Rick stein! I bought fish and chips from him over 10yrs ago. My experience was the very same as yours. Over priced fish and chips, fish was saw dry. I still remember that experience to this day. Please anyone watching and reading these comments, stay away from Rick steins fish and chips. Over priced robbery and crap food. As Lee mentioned save your hard earned money, and buy from a family run chipy.

The commercial side of Lands End is shocking, not a chance in hell Id pay for having my photo at that sign, that charge is shameful and just disgusting. Was really good hearing you say about how friendly us Scottish were when you were up this end, we are a friendly tribe. I was down at Ascot races back in 2019 for my 50th and most of the cab drivers were grumpy B's When me and my daughter were getting off the plane at Heathrow we were saying thanks to all the cabin crew which is just natural to some of us, you could see how surprised they were at hearing two people say Thankyou as we left the plane, as all the others said nothing. All the Uber drivers we had were all really friendly, one was from Somalia and when he heard we were from Scotland he wanted to shake our hands when we were back at Heathrow to return back to Glasgow, he said every Scottish person that's been in his car have all been so friendly and chatty and always shake his hand, he said he was learning from them so that's why he wanted to shake our hands like he had learned some new custom. Thankyou for sharing your journey with us all Lee, all the time effort and dedication you put in really is very commendable, full credit to you as I for one know just how time consuming the process can take. Cheers Lee!

Looking at what you got on the day, too much batter and not enough fish. The best battered fish I've had was in a fish & chip cafe at Brighton Marina. Lovely thin and crunchy batter and the freshest fish you've ever taste. Glad we gave Steins a miss during our holiday in Cornwall this year.

There should be twice the number of chips, the fish should not be greasy, the batter should be crisp and light. The fish does look flaky. Totally agree on the sauce and peas. The fish and chips should come served in paper, not boxes. 2/10 for quality, 0/10 for value

We gave up at Steins for the reasons you mentioned. Nowhere to eat them, all the areas were full. Funnily enough, I didn’t fancy walking around eating an £18 dinner (madness given that you’d pay less than that for fish/chips in a good gastropub).

Enjoyed seeing your journey. I started watching your channel for the reviews you give on living with an electric car. Earlier this year I gave serious consideration to going electric. But after seeing some of your past reviews I brought a hybrid. My wife is is on her 4th hybrid car. She has given serious consideration to going electric. But after seeing your reviews has ordered another hybrid. For your journey from the top of Scotland to the bottom of England would have required us to stop just once to refuel in either of our hybrid cars. Keep up the good work and great reviews.

I've just purchased a brand new Toyota Camry Ascent. I live in Australia now and I made damn sure I got a petrol one! Coincidently I lived not far from Padstow (RAF St. Eval) for nearly eight years in the late fifties and sixties. I use to ride there on my bike just to smell the beautiful aroma from a cake shop there. I saw 'Singing in the Rain" when it first came out there. Re-visited Padstow a few years ago and persuaded my sister's old boyfriend to take me for a flight in his plane over Port Isaac (Doc Martin fame). Had a Cornish pastie there, but wasn't impressed with it.

Amazed the seagulls didn't have your meal out there in the open with the fish perched on the box lid. Who buys from a 'named' outlet, can't believe the queue, you've just proven the folly of the sheep that are drawn in by the personality name and marketing.BTW I'm from Blackpool and am well versed in avoiding the hype of the seaside food chains as they never live up to expectations of price and quality. You are on point telling folk to support a local business, go where the locals go at home and abroad is always good advice.
