Organic Chemistry on Khan Academy: Carbon can form covalent bonds with itself and other elements to create a mind-boggling array of structures. In organic chemistry, we will learn about the reactions chemists use to synthesize crazy carbon based structures, as well as the analytical methods to characterize them. We will also think about how those reactions are occurring on a molecular level with reaction mechanisms. Simply put, organic chemistry is like building with molecular Legos. Let's make some beautiful organic molecules!
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

i can remember Horizontal is H or High or outward upward. Thanks for the video sir.
thank you sir it really help to understand easily
I think if we use thumb rule like we do in physics is quite useful ... assign 1 2 3 4 ... use either of your hand' s curl to corresspond to a circle from 1 2 3 and if its your Right hand' s thumb that points to the direction of 4 its R rectus otherwise its S. with this I dont have remember if clockwise is R or S to assign configurations.

THANK YOU , YOU ARE THE MASTER , MAN ! YOU CAN ALSO USE THER RIGHT HAND RULE IN NEAR EVERY OTHER THING FROM INDUCTION FORCE , TO THE MOLECULE`S DEXTROROROTARY FEATURE .
Big hats of to khan's academy❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Very nice! Thank you!!
Thank you SO much. Very helpful.
You're a Savior!Thank You!
cheers, thanks this really helped
Thank You!
Excellent explanation. Thank you❤
thank you so much
Does the take what it looks like and then label it the opposite configuration only work with Fischer projection or can we use it when labeling all chiral molecules?
thank you sir...
Thank you very much
really helpful
Nice one sir
Thanks
thanks alooot
thx!
Thanksss❤❤❤
Link for model kit?
We rank the molecules based on their atomic number righ??? Why is OH first ?? When the other group has oxygen in them ! Can someone make it clearer for me please
how did he figure out that in the fischer projection, the H and the OH is pointing out of the page rather than in? Because if it was pointing in, then taking the opposite of S would be incorrect when it is just R since lowest priority is pointing away. (Edit:) Nevermind, in the next video he says all horizontal lines in the fischer projections means pointing out of page.

I don't know if this is still relevant to you, but in Fischer projections the molecules in the horizontal plane are always pointing toward us and the vertical are always pointing away. So if you figure out that OH is first priority, OOH is second, and CH2OH is third, you would go counterclockwise to get S. Since the H is pointing toward us and it has to be pointing away to get the right direction, it's opposite of S, so it's R.

Abbie Pfeiffer Thanks, life saver. Your comment was more useful than the video. ( just for me, cause I knew the rest of it)
Is this in the American High school syllabus
