Ordered it this morning . Love 10 mm perspective . I’ve had another brand 10mm full frame but results were not what I expected . This will be killer underwater in a housing I’d think . It will be great for landscapes , big full sky aurora and cave photography . Can’t wait for its delivery . Great review thanks Matt

I’m getting this lens for Live Music Photography and closeup nature photography primarily. This is the best review of this lens I’ve seen and so glad I watched it all the way through. At $800 US dollars almost half of the 14-24 f/2.8 S lens of Nikons on a sale that is it’s a touch high you’d think. But as it being so good for a lens that’s 10mm and an f/2.8 that’s kind of crazy cool. It’s a very useful lens for what I do. I will use this a lot . I’ve been looking for a super wide lens to create unique perspectives and separate my photography and videography from the pack . Thanks Venus Optics

I used to shoot with D90, D700, D750 with an aps-c lens from Tokina (11-16 2.8) which also worked well on FF. But I'm planning to go for the Zf soon for the faster AF. What a lens for ultra wide, given the minimal distortion that doesn't require correction! Colours are popping too. I doubt I would often shoot that ultra wide. Somehow, my AF-S 16-35 f/4 was my least used lens, except for tight group shots! I should have requested for a "wefie" along with your new bike when you delivered the books! Definitely, I will take you up on the shooting around Melb one day. It's been a long while since my D3 days! My young kids are my subjects for candid and they keep me busy. Matt I watched a review on a Sony body. The lens hood comes off and there is a 77mm filter thread, there appears to be a lot of chromatic aberration on the Sony, a difference in sensors and processing perhaps? Interesting lens. For me, I don't think I would need AF for a lens this wide. So I wish it were manual focus and a few hundred cheaper. A chip for EXIF and aperture control would be nice, but I think I would just shoot it at 5.6 or f8 anyway, which would give me more than enough dof without worrying about focus.

@@MattIrwinPhotography, I seen them, they all look great. Guess I should have said astrophotography nightscape. But those cityscape images are quite impressive. And Laowa has definitely upped the game. And we have the 7Artisans 9mm which from what I have seen so far looks impressive but it is only a manual lens. But there is nothing wrong with that for people who grew up with them. I’m just happy to see these companies putting pressure on Nikon to release primes in ultrawide. Have a great week my friend. And your pkg should clear the US today or tomorrow and be on its way.

The new 10mm seems to be vastly superior to the Laowa FF II 9mmf5.6 W-Dreamer lens. I have to do vignette and real (not-optical) distortion adjustments with the 9mm; I use Photoshop. For instance shooting an extremely large steam engine (UP Big Boy) broadside, I had to induce pincushion distortion. I sure would like to try the new lens.

  • @MattIrwinPhotography

I think as we have seen for example with the Plena, 85mm 1.2 and there would be other examples, that I think this level of glass will always be with the OEMs in general. Although there are a few examples of fine 3rd party glass, from say Sigma. Some people will always choose OEM, and some will go with the budget friendly glass. I think it is possible for them to all co-exist.

Matt, it would be great if you discuss the Environment Friendly Use Period (EFUP) and China RoHS because there is a controversy raising again and to be honest I've never paid attention to that while it seems very wrong that nobody talks about that while at the same time we pay thousands for camera gear that obviously won't last "a lifetime" like you, Kon and Becky often say but it's just 10 years as per Nikon. And that's for all NIkon lenses from cheapest to the most expensive ones. It's shocking to say the least.

It is so hard ' ' , sorry I don't know your name, KZread is an environment where people from all over the world, from all age groups, with all types of personalities meet. They meet for information, inspiration, entertainment, a journey, some lightness, some darkness, some fun, and some seriousness and on it goes. I make theses videos across a spectrum of content and styles, and I am always experimenting, as that is part of what keeps it interesting for me, as i head towards 700 episodes. Some, like the recent 'Nikon Profits' video, there is no music. When I am making videos with video B-Roll or showing samples stills, sometimes I want the images with no monologue, and to add music rather than silence seems like a natural next step, (it is also the filmmaker in me) and then sometimes that spills to dialogue, where I bring the volume down. I am always working hard to ensure I can be heard, which I have only myself as a baseline to understand what is audible. I wish I could create the perfect video every time for every human. It is not possible. And musical taste is very personal, which means this subject is always fraught. One solution, which I think is a good one, is to make two versions. Sadly sometimes I don't have time to make both happen. I will endeavour in the future to try and make the two version, it wont always be possible. I know who Chips Rafferty is, but he is before my time. I know little about him. @@chipsrafferty8362
