This song was actually written by Dolly Parton for the movie “Best Little Whorehouse In Texas”. It was appropriate for that movie. I think Whitney did a beautiful job with the song, but not quite what the song was written for.

All due respect (and I agree BB was not a good influence on her) but I think Whitney's downfall started before Bobby Brown. He was merely a complication of her addiction, not the cause. She sounds great here, but she's high as a kite. I've been around enough addicts to see it. It's sad, because there will NEVER be another Whitney. In her prime, no one could touch her, as far as her singing. But she got caught in the web of celebrity and she was pulled into a Game that was way above her head. Whitney was too pure, too innocent and too trusting and I'm pretty sure she had her first hit, her first pill or her first puff before she got married. Having said that, I know she is singing in the Choir above, with Aretha, Donny Hathaway, James Cleveland, Minnie Riperton, Prince, Bowie, Teena Marie, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Sylvester, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington. All the greats, too many to mention. Nippy was a Star - she burned too bright, too fast and in the end, no matter how hard she tried, she had no more light to give. She belongs to the Heavens.

Dolly write this and has 2 number 1 hits with this song, but she made 10 million just from royalties when Whitney sung this version. This shows how intelligent Dolly was, Elvis wanted to sing this song in the 70's but he wanted half ownership in the song that Dolly wrote and she said no thanks hound dog !! The reason she wrote the song was to tell Porter Waggoner she wanted to leave his show. Now she's worth 500 Million, Good decision, LOL.
